Chris Davis called up by the Rangers (1 Viewer)

1B/DH type with big power that is making better contact with the ball at each level. He has been putting up Playstation numbers this year:

22 yrs old, 6'4", 235

297 AB, 23 HRs, 73 RBI, .333 BA, .386 OBP, .643 SLG%. 26 BB, 73 K's

In his last 10 games at AAA, 5 HR, 13 RBI, .289 average. He was 0 for his last 12 with 5 K's before the promotion so he's slumping a bit.

How valuable is this guy? I'm in both a deep 16 team mixed league and a 12 player keeper. My team is close to out of contention in the keeper so looking forward is getting to be my #1 priority. As for the deep mixed I have Tex and Votto in my 1B and CI spots with Stairs backing up. I also have 3 2B's (Kendrick, Weeks, Cano) and one of them is usually occupying my UTIL spot for now (I'd like to trade either Weeks or Kendrick). Would getting Davis into this lineup be worthwhile? I've never watched him play, just reviewed his minor league numbers, that's all.

In your situation, I'd take Davis over Stairs. He won't play much against lefties, and he'll be sent down when Blalock is ready...but if you're looking at 2009 he's worth moving Stairs. The power is real.In a 16 team league, you might want to see if Stairs can net you anything from a contender.

OK, I have #1 waiver priority. I'm in second place. I recently traded away Carlos Quentin (plugging that spot with Ben Francisco for the time being). I could use some power down the stretch, but I wanted to hold out and use that waiver spot on Price whenever he gets called up. But recent estimates have Price in the minors until September. Is Davis going to be the best big bat coming up in the near future?

In a nutshell, do I burn the waiver spot now, dropping Ben Francisco for Chris Davis? Any help would be appreciated.

Get Davis. I personally feel that Price won't be up until rosters expand and will end up working out of the pen at times.

i would. i just dropped mark teahen for davis a few days ago. i plan on platooning him with his twin, mark reynolds, for a while.as far as saving your waiver spot for a better prospect, i'd just go with davis now. rasmus could get called up, but i have a feeling it'll be too late to be much help, if at all this season. many don't see davis as a great prospect, but he was killing the minors and now has 2 HRs in 8 MLB ABs. others can wait for better prospects, i'll take production now.

FWIW Davis will only stay up till Blalock comes off DL

At least that was the plan, a monster week or two and that plan is history

I don't think dropping Francisco would be a good idea, he will help in all cats - he won't dominate any of them but an across the board asset. Davis may only be up for a couple weeks, while you may get some better numbers between now and the AS break you'll be in bad shape once Blalock comes back.

He'll sit for Hank to prove he's off the DL before the trading deadline. If they can't move Hank and he's slow to bounce back Davis will bump Hank for the rest of the year. This is the feeling I get on the situation, not some verifiable source.

Percival went on the DL, so I didn't have to drop Francisco to get Davis (although now that's looking like it wouldn't have been a bad move anyway).

Another homer last night. :banned:

Moving Davis down to make room for Blalock would be media suicide right now. This Cowboys town is really starting to have an affair with this team.
