Chris Henry - RB - Arizona (1 Viewer)

I was impressed by his 40 time today. Here's a writeup I did on him in the week 12 Dark Phoenix.

Chris Henry – RB – Arizona Wildcats

6’0” 223 lbs. – Junior – 112th ranked high school RB when entering college

Rush/Receiving Stats Att Yards TDS Rec Yards TDS

Versus Oregon 29 191 2 1 21 1

Chris Henry had a low national ranking, but those that played him at Edison High School knew he could ball. He was projected by some as an outside linebacker, and only rushed for 300 yards as a fullback during his junior season. Everyone knew that he had the type of long speed that is rare. He was a star in track and field, and once won the state 100M dash with a timed speed of 10.56.

Henry is a great athlete that is also a good student. He has a good head on his shoulders and knows what it takes to succeed. He has great size, and his speed is world class. Defenders can’t get a good shot on Henry, and he has deceptive speed. But he’s not just a speed guy, he can also run in between the tackles. Once in the 2nd level he can break it all the way. He is still learning some open field moves, and is not really a “natural” RB.

Chris Henry had a great game against the Oregon Ducks. His 191 yards were devastating for the Duck’s defense, and he is progressing well as a feature back. Henry has the one thing that you can’t teach – speed. His world class speed should land him on a NFL roster somewhere.

As an AZ alum who pretty much watched every significant game in Henry's career I would say that he lacks RB instinct...doesn't see the field very well and lacks wiggle.

I'd like to see him go to a zone blocking scheme where instincts and wiggle are less important.

I was mildly interested at first now he on my board.

33 reps at 225 also. This guy came prepared. Gary Russell at a molasses like 4.80 and 9 OUCH reps, did not. Yeah, you are reading that right 9 reps.

Looking like a 2nd day pick?

I'm trying to think of who I would compare him to in the NFL...I would liken his running style to Buckhalters, more of a straight line guy. He's obviously got a very different physique than Correl.

Maybe Chris Brown with less wiggle. Eddie George with less power, but more speed.

Really tough to pin him down with a comparison off the top of my head.

Tyrone Wheatley at best. Henry needed to stay in school. He had some pathetic performances. His freak athleticism is no surprise, but he has terrible vision and instincts. With big holes he does fine, but his 3.5 yards a carry against PAC 10 Ds is nothing to get excited about. He declared because he had one great game and knew he could light up the Combine, but Cecil's most important observation is: "...he is not really a natural RB.":2cents:

Nah, Wheatley was a vastly superior power runner in college and not as fast as Henry. Henry seems like a great athlete but just isn't much of a football player IMHO...or at least a player that seems like he should be a better player than he is.All of that being said, I was surprised by Bell's success in Denver so I may just be tainted by my school's lack of offense. The bad system could be covering up what Bell and Henry really have to offer.

Wheatley was a sprint champion who posted faster 100s that Reggie Bush ever did. He was a similar athletic freak as Henry, but yes, far more proven. Thus, I say Henry is Wheatley at best.

I guess Henry could develop and I hope he made right decision trying to do that in the NFL when he had another year of eligibility. We'll see. I think he gets drafted early 2nd day and struggles to make a team unless he has a big heart for special teams work. Also, he has very decent hands. Who knows. Definitely a specimen.

well, when I say fast I'm talking about 40 times...Wheatley didn't touch 4.33.

Leeland McElroy?fwiw- 3 inches shorter and 24 lbs lighter then Henry.
Nah...McElroy, was a quick, wiggly guy...Henry is neither.
Huh? He was a blazer who lacked football instincts and the "wiggly". Or at least the vision to use the "wiggly" in the NFL.A track guy considered among the fastest RBs (if not the thee fastest) at the '96 draft.

McElroy danced way too much in the NFL, I live in Phoenix so I saw plenty of his play with the cards. We can agree to disagree here, I don't recall McElroy being a straight line runner at all...wasn't he even returning punts?

Michael Bennett?
Yeah, maybe...both are track fast and run upright. Bennett seemed more compact and absorbed hits better at the college level. You guys have really got to check out Henry's game tape...it was very underwhelming for a guy with his athleticism and size.

Ill agree he danced alot. And it wanst a good thing. Because he wasnt "wiggly" enough to do it properly. One of the big reasons he failed in the NFL. Lots of straight speed. Lack of instincts/feel and jukes.

4.4 40

Sub 7 seconds in the three cone drill

He certainly passes the measurables test with flying colors.

Henry weighed in at 230 so a comp to Bennett is silly.I think CC is correct that Wheatley is actually the best example of the style of runner (even if Wheatley accomplished way more in college). Big backs who could run fast, but didn't have much wiggle or vision. the one thing about Henry is the quick burst he has at 230 lb. To run a sub 4.4 is extremely quick for a guy his size. Just think that people were amazed at the 4.43 Ronnie Brown ran at 230. Anyone have any highlights?

Agree that their body types are obviously different, but there are a few similarities...Henry probably wont have the career that Bennett had.

Better or worse? I have not seen him run, so I can't give a fair discussion here, but a fast guy who is big with not much vision or wiggle sounds like Tyrone Wheatley to me.

CC already corrected you on Wheatley, but here's a link for factual evidence of Wheatley's freakish abilities as a prep athlete. He was dominant and a true elite propsect if there ever was one..MHSAA Records

Scroll down to the long jump state record.. Wheatley still has the record. Some other "interesting" names on that 100 meter like (Rogers, Schweigert, etc).

worse, as an AZ alum I've pretty much seen every game of his career...just isn't much of a football player. Not very physical for a back his size and has very little instinct.

Wow, that is NOT good. People don't realize how important vision and instinct are for a runner. If they weren't you woldl think that a guy with this speed and size combo could just lace them up and kick some tail

Ron Dayne?

will he have a worse career, hard to say.Let's just say Dayne looked a heck of a lot better in college than did Henry.

I hope the Broncos get him in the second day. They don't require their RB's to make any moves. Simply see a hole and run down hill.

The main question I have about this guy is that if the is such a fantastic athlete why didn't he just dominate at the college level?

I might take a flyer on henry with my last pick in the rookie draft but it sounds like he is this year's workout warrior
