Chris Johnson- as much steak as sizzle? (1 Viewer)

Nightly Mistake

You look at CJ's stat line against the woeful Raiders defense and you see some very good stats. What sets the sharks apart, however, is who can read between the (stat) lines.

Johnson had a beautiful 76 yard run - he didn't even have to go all out to out distance the Raiders defense. But what did the rest of his day look like if you take away that run?

26/66/1.

That looks like Peyton Hillis numbers. To me, that's just not acceptable from a 1.01 pick in most leagues.

Even if you take away a carry for no gain which is a perfectly acceptable statistical technique, essentially the worst carry of the day, that's 25/66, or 2.64 ypc. That makes Eddie George look like Eric Dickerson right there.

I don't think you trade away CJ at this point and I don't even think all of this is his fault, but this is definitely a situation to monitor going forward.

first off... you cant take away that run, because... well.. it happened!!!

he's a stud... I hate the guy, but you cant deny it... he puts up those runs on the constant... it's not a fluke.

ya, he had a subpar day otherwise, but the raiders D is very underrated this season anyways...

bottom line: he's 100% kobe beef.

You're right 150 total yards and 2 TDs is something to be concerned about....not

why would you want to take away the 76-yard run? it happened. i really hate this attitude - well, if you take away X. you don't. did i notice his numbers weren't very good other than that carry? yes. am i concerned. not much. i don't think he gets 2,000 this year. but he'll get his and be in the top 3 RBs at the end of the year.

Isn't the point to draft a guy like this is hoping that he will rip off a run like this every week?

11 ( I think I heard) consecutive 100 yd rushing games in a row.

Yeah....no sizzle there.

As far as fantasy, who cares?

I think you can argue that a more consistent less explosive back is better for a NFL team.

For some guys, it makes sense when projecting performance going forward. People went way overboard on a guy like Deshaun Foster because of one run that he couldn't replicate very often. However, for a guy like Johnson who has a history of making these plays over and over and over again, obviously it doesn't.

Is anyone else tired of guys beating their chests and letting us know what a "shark move" is? We get it. You signed up for this site 2 months ago and are going to tell us all what's good.

I have rostered Johnson since he was a rookie. If you have followed him closely as I and other non-sharks around here have, you understand how he performs on gameday. He tends to worry owners with a ghastly ypc in the beginning of the game and then he goes on tears and eats up chunks of real estate. His game is speed and elusiveness. The opposing defense has spent all week keying on him and they can contain him for a certain period of time. At some point, he just gets behind the defense. Some time several times a game. As my opponent told me today:

"I was watching stat tracker and CJ had 3 pts. I got up to piss and he had over 20".

Guys, open your eyes. All you need to do is do the same sort of analysis with Arian Foster's day. That's the guy I want as my RB1. He gets it done, and not just on the highlights that SportsCenter bothers to show.

    :wall: This is not the right way to look at Chris Johnson. If this was the first day by an unheralded rookie, sure - don't overreact when most of the yardage came on a single run. But Chris Johnson has proven game after game that given enough opportunities he WILL break a long run, it's not a chance, it's a sure thing. In a lot of ways it is like Barry Sanders....
