That's kind of rude. If they don't think that he's a good prospect, they should just say so. They don't need to be insulting about it.Chris Long is #2

I realized that after going through the numerous draft threads. Considering I didn't see it on the board when I heard the news, kinda shows me a thread was warranted.Rams will be selecting Chris Long #2 overall - per ESPN RadoYou're almost 90 minutes late on this one...
Haslett's got plenty of 3-4 experience and it's been mentioned often over the past three years. The thought crossed my mind too, but the Rams are so thin at LB overall and rush LB in particular (I don't think Long fits as a rush OLB) that they're still plenty of pieces shy to pull it off in the front seven. With the way they used Witherspoon last year, Long and a healthy Little could make for some interesting nickel alignments though.I seriously think we should have a thread for each pick. It should be less confusing for discussion.
Anyway, the Rams pick of Long doesn't surprise me. They seemed to like what they got from Carriker at DT last year and drafting Dorsey isn't a great fit for what they've already spent moneywise on the position.
I still wonder if the Rams aren't going to go to the 3-4. I bet they use it at least some of the time.
I was thinking that Carriker and Long would play the DE's in the 3-4. Not sure about how their LBs would line up though. Leonard Little played LB before moving to DE.Haslett's got plenty of 3-4 experience and it's been mentioned often over the past three years. I don't think Glover can play the nose at this point; his best years were as a 3-technique, though Parcells used him on the nose in Dallas some. I'm with you on Carriker and Long as 3-4 ends. I wonder about Little's recovery from the toe surgery and generating explosiveness as a rush LB, but that's an issue in the 4-3 too.I'm with you, though. It's definitely worth wondering if they're pulling the old positional versatility card on the way to a future transition of some kind.I was thinking that Carriker and Long would play the DE's in the 3-4. Maybe do a quick search beforehand?I realized that after going through the numerous draft threads. Why be a jerk about it? Send the guy a PM next time if it bothers you so much.Maybe do a quick search beforehand?I realized that after going through the numerous draft threads. I don't see how Atlanta lets Dorsey get by them. Then come back and take Brohm/Henne/Flacco in round 2.That combination is better than Ryan + whichever DT is left.Just curious, is this the way it goes, ESPN is saying Long #2, Ryan #3, McFadden #4.......
I'm not being a jerk about it; I don't see a problem with pointing out that this info was available over an hour before his 'enlightening' thread appeared. He should have taken the ten seconds to search first. Why be a jerk about it? Theyre probably thinking Ryan, then best available Oline or corner. Because both positions are deep. With Dorsey, my only concern is future injury potential. He's already had leg issues, and playing on turf isnt great on big guys body parts. Many, many busts at DT early in drafts, as with many other positions. I really like Dorsey, but he's no guarantee. Atlanta could grab that mammoth beast out of Texas in the 3rd or 4th rd if they want a big DT. That team desperately needs an identity. That point has been made repeatedly, and I couldnt agree with that thought more.I don't see how Atlanta lets Dorsey get by them. Umm...yeah you are kinda being a jerk about it. Not interested or already know the info - move on. Really quite simple. I don't disagree that he'd be a better 4-3 end than traditional 3-4 end. Plenty of current 3-4 teams play 5-technique with at least one of their ends, though, giving them essentially 4-3 responsibilities. Wherever he lines up, it'll be interesting to see if Long's understanding of technique and leverage translates to the NFL well and allows him to play bigger than his size next year.No way is Long a 3-4 end. He weighs 272. He'll be 280 at best on gameday. That kid needs to be 300plus to hold the point as a 3-4 end. He did it in college. He wont do it in the pros. He'll be a 4-3 end, and he'll be a great one.
He'll definitely play bigger than his size. You can tell he's actually lighter than he'll eventually be. I see him settling in at around 285 or so. He's a naturally big kid, but he's kept himself light right now because of the uncertainty of whether he'll be playing end or OLB. Once he understands end will be his expected role, he'll add some weight. But he's still not a tackle. DEnds in the 3-4 are basically tall tackles or huge ends. But whatever scheme he plays in or whatever he's asked to do, the kid's gonna excel in it. He's a pure "football head".I don't disagree that he'd be a better 4-3 end than traditional 3-4 end. Wish I had the NFLN.Just saw Schefter on NFLN say that the Ravens are trying to trade with STL for #2.
They are letting the clock tick so somebody is talking to them. I dont think there will be a last second trade here though.-X- said:Just saw Schefter on NFLN say that the Ravens are trying to trade with STL for #2.
