Chris Williams has surgery (1 Viewer)

Here we go again with the 1st rounders. Hi Marc Columbo. Here's to more years of futility :hot:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8...mp;confirm=true

eta: Depending on the type of surgery, it could be a couple months. They didn't give a time table but I work around these everyday and it takes some time. Herniated disc surgery can linger for a long time also
The announcers in tonights exhibition stated this was an extremely minor surgery. I thought to myself, BS! You can't tell me there is a minor back surgery. I don't understand the management of this team, their player development is terrible.

they don't know what the hell they're talking about either. cutting into the back is never minor

PFT says he's done for the year.

CHRIS WILLIAMS OUT FOR THE YEAR?

Posted by Mike Florio on August 7, 2008, 8:12 p.m. UTC

We’re hearing rumblings from reliable sources that Bears rookie offensive tackle Chris Williams, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2008 draft, is expected to miss the entire season with a back injury.

Multiple teams were concerned about Williams’ health prior to the draft. Some were sufficiently concerned to take him off the board.

As we hear it, Williams has aggravated a prior back injury, and most likely will be shut down. This development, if indeed accurate, will throw a mediocre Bears offensive line into disarray, and will put even more pressure on the team’s defense to save the day, each and every Sunday.

Williams was one of seven offensive tackles selected among the first 21 picks of the draft.

Well considering one of the announcers was Erik Kramer, then I have ot agree thye do not know what they are talking about.I suspect they were reading a blurb written by Jerry Angelo, "nevermind my continual suspicious picks, everything is great, blah, blah, blah." Angelo is going to be allowed to continually make these crappy picks. I was in favor of addressing the offensive line, hell I would have been ok with all picks being offensive line, but I would hope the GM would know the injury history of his first round pick.

Our scouts should be fired, seriously. We could have had Otah or Albert. If there were well-known concerns he should not have been drafted. This throws the entire season into the crapper. God this sucks. I bet this kid never sees the field. This year or any other.

For those that didn't click this link above, here is the text:CHICAGO (AP)—Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Chris Williams had surgery to repair a herniated disk in his lower back, team spokesman Scott Hagel said Thursday.

The 14th overall pick, Williams was expected to start at left tackle, but those plans went awry when he left the Bears’ second practice because of stiffness. He’s been sidelined since but remains on the 53-man roster.

“Disappointed,” coach Lovie Smith said. “When you draft a player like that, we have big plans for Chris. We still have big plans for Chris. They’ll just be delayed a bit. We’d like to have him out there.”

The Bears said there is no connection between that injury and a minor back problem Williams experienced at Vanderbilt.

With Williams out, John St. Clair started at left tackle in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

IMO, this could very well be damage control. Of course they're going to say its unrelated to the previous injury. And Angelo saying that the plans are delayed a bit. Again, that's what he'll say now to try to have the news land as softly as possible. Then in a week, we could hear that they're IR'ing him.

Yet another first-round goof by Angelo. He shouldn't even be allowed in the draft room until the third round. His track record in the first is about as bad as it gets.

Hey guys, I know this is off topic, but I read this today in the Onion and got a nice laugh out of it.

Bears Unveil New-Look-Like-#### Offense

BOURBONNAIS, IL—The Chicago Bears put on a display of inaccurate passing, sluggish route running, and careless ball-handling Wednesday as the team exhibited their new-look-like-#### offense to fans and media attending training camp to view a full-squad practice. "We finally have the personnel to implement a game plan of high-percentage incomplete passes, completed passes of four yards or less, and a rushing attack that lets us lose control of the game clock with complex plays that take forever to develop and generate negative yardage," offensive coordinator Ron Turner said, explaining why the Bears abandoned the "West-Coast-My-Fat-###" offense they ran last year. "I'm confident that both Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton possess the ability to overthrow a receiver on a deep fly pattern or find an open defender and deliver the ball with laser-like precision, so we'll be switching between them often and at random intervals to avoid either one getting into a rhythm or developing any confidence." According to Turner, the offense is starting to malfunction as a cohesive unit and has shown much more consistency at blowing assignments, missing blocks, and fumbling snaps.

The worst part of this story is that the Bears are considering bringing back Fred "the human turnstile" Miller : :(

I can't believe the indifference and lack of quality depth on the O-Line by this organization.

I don't know what Jerry Angelo was thinking by not acquiring more O-Line depth over the years.

He's not thinking anything. Just like the rest of the organization during my lifetime

Thanks. I'll look to you throughout the year for help.

Williams started 21 games in row and never missed a practice his last 2 years of college. Are you guys totally convinced that this lastest back problem is an "aggravation"?
