Christian Writer/Pastor Beth Moore On Trumpism (1 Viewer)

I still really don’t understand the strong religious support and defense Trump got. To the point where folks insisted he is such a great Christian. Beyond looking at his life’s actions, his own words reveal him not to meet one of the things that virtually all actual believing Catholics and Protestants agree is something Jesus and the Bible requires. Trump has straight up said multiple times that he has never asked for forgiveness of his sins and repented. I don’t know how any Christian leader can possibly hold Trump up as a Christian when his own words reveal that he has not done what is instructed by Jesus and the apostles.

Just something that has bothered me for a while. It’s one thing to make excuses for someone’s actions that clearly do not follow the words of Jesus as many of us fail. It’s another thing entirely to insist that someone is a Christian when their own mouth admits that they fall short of the requirements set by Jesus.
You don’t understand?

Read Rage by Woodward. It’s the deal Pence made with POTUS.  “Stay the course”.

And for context as I know this isn't your world for many of you, Beth Moore is a big shot in Christian circles. I'd say she's the most influential woman in the Christian pastor/writer area.
Why do you think she waited until after he lost?  Trump seems like the same guy he was 4 year ago.

What was the alternative?  A party that hates Christians and Christianity (but defends all other religions), aborts babies, wants to abolish guns, hates men (specifically, white men) and whose Socialists are growing in number every election?  And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

As flawed as Trump was he was ALWAYS better than the alternative.  That's why he got the support.

Maybe I live in a bubble, but is there really a lot of hate in our nation for Christians?

ETA: Where I live (MS), Democrats are bye and large what I consider to be hard-core Christians.

What does any of this have to do with religious support?

What I have learned is that I support treason (for understanding there is no statistically significant voter fraud) and I hate white men and Christians (even though I am a white Christian man), I want to abolish guns (even as a gun owner).  Also the party aborts babies.

Some super fun and inflammatory accusations by a couple posters lately.

It really isn't any more complicated than that.
Claiming that he is better seems wrong as it is...but its not just in picking him...its in sticking with him and supporting him even through his worst actions.  Defending things that are quite frankly, not very Christian out of him.  And defending him as some great Christian himself (which some have done).

You guys seem to be confusing voting for and supporting/defending. I get why people would vote for Trump when they believe that the Republican platform more closely aligned with their Christian values. But that’s different than defending actions that clearly conflict with those values or even attributing positive moral characteristics to Trump that clearly aren’t true.

One of the worst traits of both sides is a refusal to call out their own side and hold them accountable. It’s an even worse look when religious leaders compromise themselves by doing it. A religious leader who compromises Truth for politics should not be a religious leader.

I think you have that backwards so I guess we'll just  . . . disagree to agree.

ETA: what the hell am I even doing in this thread? Dammit I promised myself I wouldn't touch this topic with a ten ft pole.

Beth Moore is an influential and very popular Christian writer and pastor. This is not a new thing for her in general but this was more pointed than she's been in the past.

It's very much in line with a lot of Christian people I know.

https://www.relevantmagazine.com/current/nation/beth-moores-condemnation-of-trumpism-is-a-watershed-moment/
"astonishingly seductive and dangerous to the saints of God than Trumpism."

While she is of her opinion on this quote I do not know any Trump person that is like this & I know a lot. Trump is for us & America first.  Most Trumpers I know place family, God, health above the rest.

Merry Christmas.

This is about to reach its inevitable conclusion, Trump is now trying to get Pence to go along with his planned obstruction of the electoral college vote on January 6. Pence can refuse in which case he will earn the permanent designation by Trump supporters as a “deep state traitor”, losing everything he’s tried to achieve through 4 years of slavish praise of Trump, or he can go along and forever stain his reputation far beyond what’s he’s already done. It’s the culmination of the Faustian story, what always happens in the last chapter when payment is due.

The Trump supporters influence will fade away.  I would be surprised if Pence was in lockstep with Trump on this.

Abolish guns?

Has any President ever submitted a bill that called for guns to be abolished?

Are you seriously going to pretend that the Democratic Party ISN'T trying to abolish guns and get rid of the 2nd amendment?  I mean, c'mon man.  You can't seriously believe that.

Also, Presidents don't submit bills - that's done by Congress.  The president signs or vetoes them.

You are missing the deal. Pence already got everything he wanted.

No, I do not think that the Democratic party is trying to abolish guns.

Are you sure you understand what abolish means?

So you're saying Trump should have been repealing and replacing Pelosicare?

No...the Democratic Party (including Biden and the establishment dems) are not trying to abolish the 2nd amendment and get rid of guns.  Nor does that have a thing to do with Christian support of Donald Trump.

The bolded seemed unnecessary.  If you want to have valid discussions in the future then please refrain with the trolling and/or personal attacks.

While I believe YOU think that the Democrat Party isn't trying to abolish guns, I vehemently disagree with you.  It's as plain as day.

Then post examples...also, his post seemed to mirror the post being responded to...where baseless claims that the democratic party hates religion, white men, and wants to abolish guns.  Not sure those statements are those trying to have a valid discussion.

I don't know about "worship"......but I think there's more than a few of his fans who feel is infallible; his deeming it truth makes it truth.
I noticed this too during the Obama administration, and I just don’t get it.  I don’t like him so he can’t do anything right.  I love him so he’s never wrong.   Mind boggling.

The last 12 years have really been troubling to me. I don’t think we want a president, I think we want a king.

I think we want "STAR POWER"!

Be prepared for the next 30 years to have The Rock, Oprah, Kid Rock, Don Trump Jr., Beyonce, William Hung, Josh Groban, Gardner Minshew and The disembodied Head of Donald Trump On a Titanium and Gold Robot Body to be  viable candidates for the Oval Office.
