Went to a tree farm for the first time with my 2 & 4 year olds...picked out then cut it down ourself.  Fun experience and will do again.

God fake is so much easier. Upgraded this year to BalsamHill. Awesome tree.
Wife wants a fake pre lit one.

I'm holding out and still want real.

I like the experience of going out to get it with the family instead of pulling it out of a box from the garage

We actually got a new real fake tree this season.  It has 3 settings for the led lights - white, colored, and alternating.  Kids love the color lights, wife likes to switch to the white lights when the kids go to bed, and I'll set it to alternating once in a while, just to #### with everyone.

Don't get a pre-lit one.  When a string of lights goes out there's no way to replace it.

If you have a fake tree you hate Christmas, have no soul, and are probably in league with the Devil.

You're also much more likely to stab someone during a black Friday scramble over $75 lcd tvs at Walmart.

Disagree. Get a prelit LED and you'll be set for years. We got one this year and love it. BalsamHill.  Cost us a mint ($1200), but such better quality than the crap ones we previously bought with the lights going out.  Huge time saver too, so easy to put up.

It's really very little work to have a real tree and the experience is what is remembered.

We've been going to a local tree farm for about 20 years and the kids love it. Santa is there sometimes, we run around and play hide and seek amongst the trees, hot chocolate and thank you's all around. They know us and it's fun to catch up with them each year.

The best tree imo is the Fraser Fir, which is very close to the Balsam except the needles are softer and it barely sheds. This year was our biggest ever at 12-feet for $62.00. Absolutely magnificent and it's different every year. Just check it for water daily and you're done. ?

If you have kids, real is the only way to go. If you have no kids, I would still prefer real to fake. Putting a fake one together from its box is more of a pain in the ### then the setup and clean up combined from a real tree.

DO NOT get a prelit tree. I know multiple people where a portion of the lights no longer work. They burn out (like all lights do) and your tree is ####ed.

I only voted artificial because I hate seeing jerks leaving their dead ### tree on the side of the road because they can't be fussed to pay the ten bucks to have their trash hauler take it.

We do real, and real small. About 4 ft. This year we have about a half dozen "Baby's First Christmas" items including a small ornament with NorvilleJr photo on it. After New Years we toss it out back by the fire pit to completely dry out. When we do fire pit evenings in the spring it's the ceremonial first fire - sucker lights right up.

Trees are like boobs. Real ones are nice, but so are fakes if you get the right one.

We've done both and it doesn't matter to me.

Bought a prelit tree years ago after Christmas for 75% off for $200. There's a few bulbs out but not entire strands like people seem to think. And this tree is over 10 years old now.

Costco - 9ft fake prelit.  Breaks every other year and I return it for a new one. :lmao:

Or.. maybe I break it every other year, same difference.

The tree is great, the lights are what give out.

Fake.  We bought a beautiful new 9' (pro tip: unlit) this year and just put it up.  We have two smaller ones for other rooms as well, one with sentimental value (was my grandmother's) and one that was the top piece of our old one.  We go visit a tree farm and just look around each year as well for the best of both worlds experience.  So love this time of year. :)

For $1200 I hope it included a crew to set it up and take it down every year.  <_<

I think you may have just created a small business for someone who runs a service where they will put your tree up and then take it all down for you.  Lotta lazy/irritated folks out they who just might bite.

As for the tree, fake for me.  My retired fireman father used to tell me stories about how many house fires he had to put out because of real trees in the house.  Especially houses with pets.

Always fake

$300 bucks for a prelit fake one like 8 years ago.  Came with a few extra bulbs. Installs in 5 minutes.

No kids why bother with a tree at all

Unless you buy it at Costco. Our pre-lit tree went out eight years after we initially bought it--Costco refunded in full. Big fan of the simplicity of the pre-lit monster trees

They have that service for christmas lights.  I'd have to imagine they have it for trees as well.   Rich people have to spend their money on something.

I figured they did.  I have just never talked to anyone who had it done and have never seen it advertised anywhere.

Then again, I am not rich and only know a few rich people, and those rich people would never pay for that.

For the life of me, I don't see what's that hard about a real tree.  Of all the stuff I do with the house, its way down the list.  Its not like I don't have the time.  I have hours to kill each weekend.  Throwing a tree on the roof while I'm at costco anyways isn't putting me in any time crunch.

Cause a fake tree is a lot cheaper than a real tree every year?  And it's easier to take 30 seconds to pull it out of storage than it is to go cut down a real tree and haul it home.  By the time I would have driven to some tree farm or store with real trees I can have the fake tree set up and ready for my wife and daughter to go to town on decorating it.

In the past 10 years we have had two fake trees for a total of about 150 bucks.

If I wasn't annoyed by almost every aspect of the Christmas season I might consider the real tree experience.

When I was younger we always had a fake tree. but being the annoying little brats we were we kept bugging our mom we wanted a real one so finally one year she relented.  took the tree home and realized a few days later there were hundreds of spiders living in it.  fun times

I certainly don't condone the extreme for the real experience.  You'll never catch me at any tree farm.  Its all costco all the time.  32 bucks this year.   I personally don't care for any holidays, but my kids love it so I live vicariously through them.   Once they're gone, I don't think I'll put up another tree.  Same goes for the outside lights.

Why not more than one?  Real in the proper living room.....fake in the rec room downstairs.  Got an old school aluminum one as well that I'm looking for a place to put it.  Got two 3 foot fake trees next to the fireplace....I'm Mister Mother ####### Christmas.
