Chromebook -- Highly recommend (1 Viewer)

Now actually considering splurging on the Pixel. The hardware sounds droolworthy, and I just love the Chromebook environment. The one and only complaint about it is that it's overpriced, but it's not really when you look at the design, machining, etc. It's just a premium device. It's like a Maserati. You can get the same horsepower in another car and get from the same A to the same B all for half the price. Here, moreso than some other silly luxury purchase, it is for the device I use every day and some days for hours on end. I can absolutely justify it. (And the free Google storage alone is worth the price of admission alone).

The more I read about it, the more I think this could be my ultimate laptop.

thought they discontinued the HP 11?

Not as far as I know. Or at least they still sell it at Best Buy.
they stopped selling these a little while back cause the power cord was ####### some #### up. looks like they fixed that issue.if this came in the 4gb version I would be all over it
It is serious bang for the buck. The screen is an IPS screen and looked fantastic in person. My Samsung Chromebook looks like crap in comparison.

I'm totally pulling the trigger on the Pixel and selling my old Macbook Air and Samsung Chromebook on eBay or something.

Hm. If I get the Pixel, I'll definitely swap shop the Samsung Chromebook. Whatcha got??

some of the best bacon you will ever have in your life, godfather collection on DVD (bunch of other dvds). Other than diapers what are you into these days?

the pixel is sweet, but it is way overpriced. no way I would sell my air for it
Looks so so sweet. The ONLY hesitation I have right now is over the battery life. 5 hours isn't much for a Chromebook. It should be double that.

That said, I don't anticipate this being a travel machine, but my main machine at home, so maybe not a big deal.

I'm in the exact same boat, battery life is what has stopped me from buying this. The test got 4 hours 12 minutes with brightness at roughly 50%. I'm a 90-100% brightness guy, i'd probably get 3 hours 30 minutes of battery life at those brightness settings, if i'm lucky. Pop a Haswell chip in this thing, give me 6-8 hours of battery life and I'm in for 2 of them.

I love my c720 but a lot of the appeal is the price. If I'm dropping $1300 for a laptop there's no way in hell it will be on a chromebook (in it's current incarnation, anyway).

Yeah this is probably right.

Well, picked up a MBP with retina display today. I still am very in love with the chromebooks, but until my work supports remote connection from them, it's not a viable main/high end device for me (it is, however, a great second device at the price point). I'm miffed because I would prefer the Chromebooks, and the Pixel is a droolworthy machine, but I need something I can work on.

Still may replace my Samsung Chromebook with the HP as a "secondary" or backup machine at the price point, and if I only had $279 to spend and my IT department were more up to speed, I would totally be going HP 11.

I knew you'd be back.

Finally pulled the trigger on the HP 14 at Costco today.
Pretty sure this is the same thing I got at WalMart six weeks ago. Great display, great keyboard. The free 4g is also great, but 200mb burns up in a hurry.

It is rather heavy and I'm queer for backlit keyboards and it doesn't ahve that either, but for under $400, its by far the best value imo.

I found an HP Folio 13 last year for 5-600 range. I use it much more than the chromebook. Its lighter, has an o/s and the battery lasts much longer. If you can find one, I'd recommend it. I saw some on ebay for 4-700

I'm in on the Chromebook as of two weeks ago. Really liking it thus far. Small, fast, good battery life. Perfect for internet.

how is the display on it?
Very happy with it thus far. The speakers are average, it's a bit on the heavy side, but 9 hours of battery life and the ability to have 4G lte sold me.
Last month I burned thru my free bandwidth in a couple of days.

Now I'm more careful to make sure I have wifi before watching any videos.

I'm curious how long it would last just reading this forum and my email?

200mb will handle about 10,000 text only emails.

My plan for the chromebook is to use it out on the road for my cloud based inventory management system. I would not be streaming videos etc but I would be doing remote quoting, orders, and printing back to my main office a few times a day. Would the 200mb be enough for a month or should I look into one of these plans?

Anyone aware of current deals on these? Thinking of getting my mom one for her birthday in a few weeks...

Is the data staying on the server or being pulled to your machine? I inagieb it's the former which means 200 mb will go a long way. You're basically webshrfing primarily. 200mb is about three hours of actual browsing. Surely you can find wifi at some point. Also, your db program may lack the formatting and graphics of most sites meaning you can run for a lot longer.

Samsung just announced their Chromebook 2. 11 inch and 13.3 inch.

Both have Exynos 8 processors w/ 4 GB ram. Fanless. Should be fast enough. 8+ for battery life.

Both have this weird faux leather look. Not sure if I'm a fan.

The 11 inch is 720, the 13.3 is 1080 (first 1080 Chromebook {Pixel is 4K!}).

11 inch is $320, 13.3 is $400.

Dont like the pleather look at all.

There are a couple Acer manufactured refurbished C720 2GB left on Amazon for $149.99

I was gonna wait for the Asus one to come out, but for 150 bucks this is too good of a deal to pass on.

Picked up a not so highly recommended hp pav 14 4gb (the black one) with the 4.5 hour battery life. It was on clearance at my local Staples for 220. They were down to the floor model which I am now typing on. 10% off for taking the display made the price 198. Good buy I think. I added a wireless mouse. It makes a big difference for me. I'm getting a little more fan noise than I expected but it's probably normal. If I take this back (I have 2 weeks), it will be to upgrade. I'm 99% chrome and drive these days. I'd like better resolution and battery life but I'm okay with this. Not only have I not touched the Ipad since bringing this home, I've also stayed off my desktop.

Just arrived an hour or so ago. This thing is zippy and light. Obviously just started playing with it, but for 150 bucks this thing seems like a huge steal.

Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting one of these for my MIL. Does anyone know if it is possible/easy to change the language of Chrome OS and the keyboard to Korean? Also, is changing the language for the Chrome browser the same as for a PC/Mac version of Chrome? I've Googling for a while but have not able to find the answer to this (you'd think google of all places would have answers to something like this).

I didn't search for Korean, but during set up there is a list of languages to select. I'd expect Korean to be there.

So I'm probably keeping the $198 dollar 14" HP pav, but I am going back to Staples tomorrow for a better look at possible upgrades. I need to see what upgrading by $100 or so will do.
