Chrs Johnson owners (1 Viewer)

I own CJ (keeper league) and wouldn't entertain anything for him except another top RB. I'm not even worried about CJ (yet).

Imagine you are a RB and for the last couple years when you get handed the ball you look ahead at your linemen and you have a good idea on where they are going to block and which one of them will pick up that LB you see keying on you about 5 yards back. You're comfortable.

Now imagine you come in and you have no idea where your linemen are headed. Where you used to "zig" you realize you should have "zagged". What the hell is going on? The zone blocking scheme is what's going on. Every week you get a little more used to the spots you should hit and where you should go. But it takes time.

It's not just about the defenses CJ is facing. He'd be a bit confused as to where to go even if no one was on the field at all. That split second of indecision is the difference between him hitting the hole or making the corner and him not.

I played a little bit of LB back in the day and even on the defensive side of the ball if I didn't have a good idea where my DL in front of me was headed it would seriously put a dent in my reaction times. I'm sure there's some old RB's on this board who could explain the effects of being dropped into a situation as a ball carrier and not know which way the guy in front of you was going to block.

I'm fine with CJ. I'll worry if I don't see improvement by week 6. And I don't expect him to reach his full potential as a RB in this zone blocking scheme till next year. If that bothers you then I'd shop him. I'm in a keeper league and there's no way I'm parting with him this early.

In redraft I'd wait 'till week 4 at least before I'd seriously consider moving him. Dynasty/Keeper? Not at all this year.

sweet jeebus people, this is what Chris Johnson does. He goes for 16-34 and no TDs, then blows up for 125 and 2TDs the next week. Factor in his holdout and the new O and he's bound to have some wildly inconsistent play to start the season.

Even during his 2k yard season he had only a single 100 yd game out of the first 5.

Not time to panic...yet
Good point. Also, in the first 5 games, he only scored in 1 of them (granted it was 3 TD's) so your point is well taken. He ended up with 2006 yards and 16 total TD's in 2009. I think the offense will be better than last year but the slow start will offset the additional potential. I figure him for roughly the same numbers as last year (1364 rushing/12 total TD's)

I just traded

Aaron Rodgers

Brandon Lloyd

Jordey Nelson

for

CJ

Stevie Johnson

Roethlisberger

Seems fair to me. I'm in dire need of a RB and he's in dire need of a QB. He's got RB depth and I've got Fitzpatrick.

I think you win here, it was almost even without CJ2K

:goodposting: Excellent explanation about the transition to a zone blocking scheme.

As a CJ dynasty owner, there is nobody I would trade him for (i already have AP, so thats out the window)
LOOK AT ME I HAVE PETERSON AND CHRIS JOHNSON!!!11!!!ONE!!!uno!!!!!

seems uncalled for, i was simply stating that because AP would be the only player I would trade CJ for...this thread is about what owners would trade CJ for right? Or am I in the wrong place...
clearly the jovial nature of comic sans was lost on you

Offered Mathews, Jordy, & Jacobs for Johnson and was rejected. Now Im counteroffering Nicks & Jacobs for CJ

I offered DJax, Knox and Lynch for him in a ppr redraft where we can start any combo of 5 skill guys (so you can go 5 wide if you want). He needs wr help and I have 1 too many.
I expected a counter to this but wanted to see what he valued him at. Modified it to be DJax, Bess, Meachem and Lynch for CJ2 (and a WR to be named) Looks like it will be accepted.

Don't see many 4 for 1's...probably because most people don't carry 3 droppable players.

From the sounds of what people are having to pay for him or are getting for him, I should probably take the offer of giving up Blount/Starks for CJ2K!! give me Rice,SJax and CJ2K.

hehe I got a chuckle out of that thanx! Almost funny, is to consider what three players get dropped in the process.

Just traded CJ and Jacoby Ford for Matt Forte and Percy Harvin. Nothing against CJ but I just like Forte a litte better and Percy gives me some good help at WR. 12 team 16 player PPR league.

Through 3 quarters, he is averaging about 1 yard per carry today.

I'd trade him for a bag of chips at this point, but I don't think I'd get any takers.

I'm going to shop CJ now in all leagues. I expect to get nothing in return.
Think you Johnson owners feel bad? How do you think the Titans feel after just handing him that fat contract?I approached the Johnson owner in our league last week and asked him if he would be open to trading him? He said he wanted to wait and see if he would rebound. Don't blame him, but probably too late now. I wouldn't offer much for him at this point.

I'm thinking of a word that begins with "D". Ahh yes...Denial.

I'm not about to try to say I know what "it" is, but this is not the same as Chris Johnson starting slow or having a game where the numbers are not there and then bouncing back. He just doesn't look like the same guy. I could get on board of the person who mentioned he is not familiar with the new scheme the line is running but a guy with this much talent should basically be able to look different than DWIL at this point. And I thought the team said he basically had it memorized the first few days back. Maybe it is a case of the heavy use the past few years (we seem to crucify every other runner not named Peterson for over use).

Whatever the case, I think the people thinking he is still worth the other RBs are way off base. His name should be able to get you a couple of really good, but not great players, but I don't see anyone trading him for the other studs right now.

You guys really need to be trading for CJ right now. See my post in the CJ vs Broncos thread. If you watched the game, they're definitely getting him integrated into their pass game. It may take a couple more weeks to get him comfortable, but when he does, its going to get very interesting for CJ owners IMO.

I'm trying to get him in every league. Hopefully the CJ owners are just as desperate as they are in here.

I agree - so far it has just looked like he's a rookie - unfamiliar with the offense, getting a bit more involved in the passing game, figuring out where to go...every week I'd bet he gets better and better as missing TC has big impact early, but way less late.I got him for Tate, Boldin, and Best. Pairing him w/ another 1st round RB like AD, Rice, MJD, DMC, McCoy will be deadly for all other owners. Imagine buying low on CJ/FOster/SJax while having one of those guys - talk about getting prepared to dominate from week 5 on...A whole lot of panic in here for a guy who has been more involved each week after missing all of training camp.

At this point my team I have him on is 0-3. I would listen to trade offers for him but doubt I get anything worth it to me. Just gonna sit him in my starting lineup and watch my team fail because I have no better options.

Just offered Felix and MikeTB for CJ...not sure what will happen. Owner with CJ really needs WR help as he had Brit go down yesterday.

That's the spirit!
Yup when you score half of what the 2nd lowest scoring team has 2 weeks running you just know its gonna be a long season. Lucky for me I have more then 1 team.Really though I think if you have him you just have to hope he gets rolling. Trading for F.Jones and M.Williams like my man up there is trying to trade for him is not gonna make your team better. You just got to hope the guy you drafted to be a rb1 who has been a rb1 the last couple years gets going.

I'm still not trading him. The guy missed basically all of training camp, and obviously everyone missed OTAs. He's in a brand new run game (as someone described above). And he's definitely involved in the passing game...with a brand new QB throwing him the ball.

I'm looking for him to start producing CJ type numbers again after the bye. IN the weeks after the bye he faces:

HOU - 17th against the run

IND - 22nd

CIN - 8, but c'mon, it's cincy

ATL - 20

TB - 23

BUF - 24

Not to mention CLE next week (29).

Optimist? Denial? Maybe, but i don't give up on or bench my rd 1 picks

Just offered DWLL and Tampa Mike for CJ in a keeper league.
That's an even trade. No, really, it is. If Johnson can't rip off huge runs, he's a Reggie Bush clone at best. He doesn't have the size to take on a front 7. It's showing. He will have some big games against weak teams but his glory is in the past.
