Chuck Barkley to the Monday Night Booth! (1 Viewer)

When Sir Charles came to the booth it was great. He stayed for a whole quarter, he was sarcastic yet entertaining. I don't think he could add a lot of football insight, but who cares the guy is purely entertaining!

Not overly impressive to me! I could see him getting old after a game or two. :bag:

I liked him last night, and generally do like his commentary. He says it how it is, and doesn't sugarcoat anything.

I thought it was neat when they asked him if he would want to play on the same team as TO and he flat out said "hell no".

I thought that he was very entertaining.

He also freely opposed Kornheiser which I felt was terrific.

He was also right about his prediction!

Barkley is always entertaining, without fail. He has charisma and impeccable timing and delivery with his quips. Anyone who follows the NBA (certainly very few people around here) know how great he is on TNT. He keeps their NBA programming afloat.

Didn't particularly care for him sitting with the other fools for that long. He was OK, but who really cares about his thoughts on how tough high school football is?

Thought he was pretty stupid, with the Cards up 20- 3 he is saying that the Cards, only getting a FG before the half was a turning Point, Huh?

turning points arent when the team is still playing like crap, which the bears were playing like.

If we want entertainment in the booth, lets get Borat, for analysis Barkley sucks

I thought 3 in the booth was too much. 4 was ridiculous.

The game has become secondary. Between the The long introductions of players, music videos, too many guys in the booth, guests (last week the guy from Desperate Housewives), and the foolish banter from Theisman and Kornhieser, the telecasts are missing the major story.

THE GAME!

Show the game, highlights of football at halftime, clips from the coaches during the game, instead of guests from Desparate Housewives (at least have the chicks from the show) and music videos

How about some football??? :football:

People really liked him? Wow. I thought it sounded like an idiot. This is coming from a big Kornheiser fan though. Barkley sounded like a giant loudmouth who refused to admit that he was wrong about anything.

Anyone else pick up on the fact that he had some money on the first half over! It was very obvious if you ask me....

When the Cardinals had the ball late in the half he stated something along the lines of... "They can't settle for a field goal", when the bears got the ball back, the bears need to score here to get into the game... they need to forget about the field goal. He mentioned that both teams needed to score quickly on several occassions.

They asked him if he would play football and he said, "Never could" Theisman asked him if it ever got as physical on court down low, and he said, "No chance, this is the most physical sport." Honesty, you gottal love it!

I can understand having a local celeb stop in the booth for a few minutes...but it was too long. I don't like Kornheiser either...

I'm a fan of Kornheiser but Barkley was making more sense. If CHI has a TO deep in their own territory and limit ARZ to a FG, then march down the field and score a TD before the half THAT IS how you change momentum. Kornheiser saying the first pass of the game would have changed momentum if it would have been completed was ridiculous. Change the momentum from what? Getting tackled returning the kickoff?Still like Kornheiser but he should realize not everyone is the inflatable punching clown theeesman is. Tony came off looking dumb while talking to Barkley. Barkley would offend about 1/2 a national audience by the fourth game of the season if he was a fixture in the booth. He says enough outrageous things as a halftime NBA analyst for TNT when everyone on set is trying to steer him away from trouble. Imagine what Barkley would say if he had a boring hour to fill of national air-time at the end of some meaningless blow-out. Things might start off rosey but they'd go down-hill fast.

Disagree. He was spot on while making the point ARZ scoring a TD and going up 24-0 at half is a much different situation than ARZ being held to a FG(despite being given a gift for field position) and then CHI marching down and scoring before the half making the score 20-7. At 20-7 you are two plays from taking the lead. At 24-0 you need at least four scores to tie. There is a big difference.

hahaha yea he made it obvious. i agreed with him cause i went over too :wall:

C'mon haters. His comment when asked if he played football - something to the tune of (and directed squarly at Thiesman), "No, I'm too smart for that - when I realized they were hitting for real..." :lmao:

He was given it Joe T. - unfortunately Joe was either ignoring it or too post-concussed to realize it. It was quite amuzing though.

I actually find their 3 man booth acceptable - a nice change from some of the previous ones.

Barkley was the highlight of a dreadful telecast. I spent a few hours blogging about how bad the trio is, and amazingly enough, 99 percent of the intelligent football fans out there seem to agree. Why doesn't ESPN get it?

Also, can we make the game-box graphic any *bigger* and put it, oh, I don't know, maybe in the middle of the friggin' screen? Terrible.

The special effects on Berman's highlight package makes then unwatchable, too.

His eyes and the way he was babbling indicated that he was "high as a kite" either that or he was just drunk as hell...impaired in some way. Don't get me wrong usually love listening and like the way he "tells it like it is" but he was out of it last night.

Hey now, someone in my household loves the "cartoon legs" thingy they do for the highlights- of course it's my 10 year old daughter. :mellow:Of course, I found them mildly amusing as well

I remember Barkley once saying that the only reason people watched football was because they bet it.

He would not be able to contain himself with the gambling aspects...which would be hilarious. The NFL would have a fit.

thought he was ok, but ESPN is completely missing the boat on their broadcast IMO. It seesm like all they want to do is talk about everything but the game. And when they finally do talk about the game its just to hype up whoever just made a nice play. I go out to a bar where i cant hear the sound they annoy me so much

Charles "That's what I hate about F-cking White people"" Barkley?

Yeah he would be perfect for MNF. His rants on how he is not a role model or his gambling addiction would fit right in. Or maybe a discussion on how the reason behind changes to golf courses is to keep Tiger Woods from winning.

This fat, old, racist, and washed up blowhard needs to go away.

usually like the Round Mound of Rebound, but not last night. Course didn't help w/ that he had 2 dip-####s sitting to his right and left...

I was relieved to read this. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who thought Barkley was a moron.

I didn't see a whole lot of when he was up there, but I was all for it when the rumors were flying a while back about him being one of the regulars.

I love his commentary on anything.
