yes. we alternate between a baptist and methodist church. wife plays french horn in the methodist orchestra, and FIL is in the choir of the baptist church.

I go. Sometimes I just stare at the statue of Jesus and wonder. I rarely fully believe. I know my kids do and I remember when I did. I felt a lot better about the world when I did believe without a doubt. I hope my kids don't ever lose that.

Cradle Catholic here. I go to mass every week, occasional weekdays and on holy days. Throughout my adult life I've gone to daily mass on and off as my schedule permits. Used to go 2-3 weekdays but for the past 5-7 years haven't been able to go much at all. I'm about to start going 3-4 times per week to morning mass due to a recent schedule change and I'm very excited about that.

Makes sense to have various translations for a book not written in English, doesn't it? I've read 3 or 4 different translations of The Brothers Karamazov (or The Karamazov Brothers according to the latest one). The bible's been around a lot longer than that book.

Was mandated to go every Sunday until I went to college. Resented it and once I was able to decide on my own whether to go, I chose not to.
My daughter is in pre-k and has chapel every Wednesday. I'll probably go again occasionally when she no longer has chapel.

I go to a non-denominational church. There are too many reasons to list them all here. In general, I would say the church provides guidance on a way to live that I believe in.
From a personal perspective, I can tell you the church does a lot of good in the community. My family went through a terrible tradgedy. We were not anything special in the church and in fact went to church off and on for about 2 years. A couple of days after the tradgedy, a man shows up from the church that we barely knew. He asked to speak with us at our kitchen table. We sat down and in basic terms he told us not to worry about any bills for awhile. We were dead broke and about to take on a great deal of debt. We said thank you, but why? He said, God will provide in times of need. That has stuck with me. He could have said, the church will provide or the community will take care of it, but he didn't. He said, God will provide. I'm not sure I would be here today without God and the church.

Grew up in the conservative Christian Reformed Church; joined the Presbyterian Church after moving to Chicago, and currently am a long-time member of a smaller congregation (~300 members). We regularly attend weekly (for 21 years, I offered the children's sermon each week). My now-grown kids were active when they were growing up and participated on several mission trips. They still attend on occasion, though like many young-20 somethings, they're sporadic. Many of their adult friends are from the church. I love watching the young children grow up in the church.
Presbyterian. Grew up not regularly attending church. Never went in college except for weddings and funerals. Wife and I both got heavily involved in church when we were married. She still has a strong faith though mine has cooled in recent years. Still have faith and would like it to increase but kinda been in a dry spell for 10 years.

Joe - I go to a non-denominatial church also. Grew up Catholic and never really got anything out of it or got into it. Tried a few different churches and fell into this one. I agree that just the amount of community outreach the church performs brings me back every weekend. Starting up in 7 minutes!

Just leaving now. Wife had aneurysm last Wednesday, faith has pulled me this last week and become stronger. She's only 51

Don't go. Gave up on the concept of "god" when I stopped being a child - and I don't say that as an insult, I mean that quite literally. When I got to my teenage years and started broadening my education I went from Roman Catholic to non-believer pretty quick.
Married a Catholic girl, though. She hasn't been a regular church-goer since high school, and has tried to get me to go to a church once or twice in the past 12 years we've been married.

I'm pretty far down on the People Eager to Defend the Bible list, but come on. Even I can recognize that in this instance, they're right. There is no substantive difference between those sentences. Basically, he stands at the door and knocks, and if anyone lets him in, they'll eat a pizza or something. They're all saying the same thing with slightly different words.Does it? There are plenty of examples of actual biblical contradictions and errors - this is not one of those cases. IMO, the poster of the list, while he had a bit of a point, was pretty much trolling.

Growing up went thru church and Sunday school, confirmation, etc in a non-denominational church. After my brother and I were thru that we really stopped going. Palm Sunday, Easter, maybe one or two other times of the year. My wife grew up Lutheran in WI, went to a church school thru middle school, and her family went most every Sunday.
Now we just don't go. Part of it has to do with the church we chose not having Sat nite services. My wife is a CPA and this time of year, Sundays are her only day off, so getting everyone up and out to go to church just doesn't fit.
Before we had kids, we slept in. In the fall, we liked to wake up and turn on the noon pregame shows. Our friends used to joke about who was going to call to wake us up if we were doing anything. Church just didn't fit.
Now we just don't go. Part of it has to do with the church we chose not having Sat nite services. My wife is a CPA and this time of year, Sundays are her only day off, so getting everyone up and out to go to church just doesn't fit.

Grew up going to temple (reform judaism) many Fridays, with it becoming most Fridays from Bar Mitzvah year and a couple after. Never liked the new (well, now 15-20 years) Rabbi that they chose so when I moved back in my late 20's began to actively dislike going (rather than just not like it). Would go on High Holy days and most other holidays and on yurtzites (annual remembrance on/near the date of a loved ones passing) basically for my mother.
Generally agnostic with issues with much of organized religion, but I can't discount that "something" might be out there. With that, reform Judaism and Judaism in general works fairly well for me as it's not especially dogmatic and encourages questioning and dialogue rather than G-d said so, in a book written by man, so that's just how it has to be. Even so, if it were up to me, I'd rarely go.
I found a nice shik-zah (semi derogatory term for non jewish girl) and was set until she blindsides me with her desire to convert. Next thing you know, I'm back going to temple at least once a month. That's died down because she, too, can't stand the rabbi and with my mother becoming Temple President next year, it's not worth the explosion that would occur should we switch, which is what would be necessary for me to go, and honestly if we found the right temple, I'd like to go once or even twice a month and would like to do that for our children when we have them.

'Counterpoint'? I'm not engaging in a VERY worn out back and forth. That's what I don't get about posters like you, FSM, Jim11, BGP etc. Any one trick pony really. Anyone with half a brain (I'd put both you and I in that camp) know exactly what you are getting at, what the rebuttal would be, followed by the counterpoint to that etc.
What's tiresome is that someone who hasn't gone down the rabbit trail with you will respond and off you go. I guess you are just hoping to find the last person on the Internet who hasn't gotten tired of debating this topic. Or Jon mx. For some reason he just keeps the flame alive.

Wife and I go to a Presbyterian church most Sundays. Neither of us believes in god but we both enjoyed the church experience growing up and thought it would be a good thing for our family to do. Been going about a year now, and it's been a positive thing in our lives.

We had our kids in church daycare/school until this year. They did a great job, we will continue to send them back over the summers for years to come.
Church on Sundays only when invited these days - really don't get much out of it myself anymore, kids hate it, wife is indifferent.

Odd. I now feel 100x better knowing that there likely isn't a God and my every move isn't being judged and certain decisions aren't going to lead me to possible eternal damnation. Also no longer feel the irritation that possibly some other being has some affect on my life. So much less stress.
Also has allowed me to be way more objective towards the rights of others since I'm not looking at them through a defined lens of religious morality.

I was raised Lutheran, my wife Catholic. Outside of weddings or communions, neither of us have gone for over 20 years. I consider myself a hopeful agnostic. I would really like to believe but I just don't. Maybe some day. I do have a lot of respect for the church and the people that do believe. The positives of it clearly outweigh the negatives and I'm glad it's there for people who need it. I'm fascinated by the Bible and the history of the times around the stories, especially from an archeological perspective.
