One of the basics to keep in mind is never upgrade your town hall until you have everything else upgraded that you can upgrade.

Matchmaking and how much treasure you can take is dependant on the town hall levels. If you have a town hall level 5, but level 1 walls and defenses, you're going to get smoked and farmed constantly. Keep everything on par as much as possible to prevent yourself from becoming an attractive target.

I played this a while back along with my 6 year old. at some of these comments about playing with your kids -- I had like the perfect base set up for TH level 5 and I come back from work to see that it's all been moved around, with holes everywhere. Then he starts upgrading stupid #### and spending precious gems.

I may have to log back in and check it out. Will try and join the clan here. I think I had a level 7 TH or something, unsure what level I was.

Hit a plateau around ~60 and stopped playing. Way too hard to get the $$ and elixir required once the reqs get over 2MM for upgrades without spending real money.

I've made it to 94 without spending a cent on gems. It can be done

No need to spend a penny. I'm on level 81.

Never bought shield with gems either. Use green gems for 3rd builder when you get 1000 of them. I then got all the way back over a thousand and used some to give me a little bit more elix or gold to get something upgraded. Sometimes you just want to go to bed and you're close...if you're not in shield you'll lose a bunch overnight when attacked.

Unless you're trying for the trophy achievements, you don't have to put TH in the middle of your camp IMO. If someone wants to take a few trophies by using a couple archers on your TH, let them. Protect your elix, gold and dark elix.

That's what I thought. I had a lot of troops that survived, but they weren't at the campfire afterwards, and had nothing to deploy on my next raid.

Is there a limit on how much elixer and gold you can extract? Is building/upgrading the resource buildings early to hoard elixer and gold a bad idea?

Adjust your strategy based on how often you can play.

For me the collectors are kind of pointless. I can attack and get 100k gold or I can wait 10 hours. Pretty basic. Learn to attack and don't be afraid to keep hitting "next" when you attack. I sometimes hit next 20-40 times looking for that perfect city to attack. Money is never the issue in upgrading. It is always time.

Correct

Although there are troops (goblins) that will go after resources like gold & elixer only and other troops (like Giants & hogriders) that will target weapons. Barbarians & archers target both.

Giants attack defensive attackers. Archers and Barbarians attack whatever is nearest. Goblins go after elixir and money.

Like others, my son wanted to play this game, I joined with him to watch over the clan chat, etc. Son quit playing after a few weeks. 8 months later, I'm still playing.

Reminds me of the game Valor I got into on iPhone a while back.

Start off building one town/army.... then can branch out and take over neighboring un-manned towns (at first)... then eventually you take over manned ones and knock people out of the game. People form clans. massive alliances form.

Got to the point I had spent $50 on upgrades, had a spreadsheet to coordinate attacks (different types of troops travel at different speeds, frequently you'd need to attack from multiple cities as well to overtake a big city). I'd have 2-3 diff types of troops from 3-6 different cities all timed to land within a 5 second window to wipe everything out. Crazy stuff.

Formed a clan with a badass group. Then joined up with another couple groups to form the top alliance in the game. Got crazy for a bit. Tons of emailing and politicking to form truces/alliegances. Had moles in other groups etc. Then went crazy with my original group who had all gotten tired of it and went rogue. Took out our allies from the inside and threw the whole place into chaos. Went out in a blaze of glory.

Basically burned a month or two of my life on that damn game Never gain. Was fun for a bit though.

At what level do you start getting attacked? I'm only level 3

You can. At lower levels it doesn't really matter, but after a few levels you will want them within range of your defenses. At higher levels, once you have enough walls, you'll want them inside walls.

If you put them way out in the corners, which I've seen done, they are destroyed and the elixir/gold inside is taken without a challenge. That's fine when they aren't holding much, but is a bigger issue once they are upgraded several times.

I don't believe so. As shader said, you can get quite a bit from attacking other players, but I try to max out my collectors. There's no limit to what you can mine, these aren't fossil fuels.

My fifth grader is obsessed with this. She's in a clan with a bunch of her friends from school. She introduced her 33-year-old uncle to the game a few weeks ago, and he got into it. He joined her clan and started kicking her friends out or something. I don't really know what this all means but it just makes me laugh that my brother-in-law is playing a game with a bunch of 11-year-olds.

My mistake was upgrading my TH. Think I am at 9 now and can't save anything much past 7-800k. Can't make any progress at all and can't get enough during attacks.

2 level 2 elixer collectors

1 level 2 eloxer storage

1 level 2 town hall

My max gold and elixer is at 4000

How do I raise that and gain more gold

Any help would be appreciated. First time playing something like this. Seems very expansive (and is a battery drainer)

I upgraded my TH to level 3, then focused on using my gold to upgrade my elixir collectors and storage, and my elixir to upgrade my gold and gold storage. I stopped short of upgrading my TH any further until I maxed out everything I could buy (3 gold mines, 3 elixir collectors, 2 storage of each, 2 barracks upgrades, 2 army fields upgraded, lab) and finally this morning started to upgrade to TH 4. My wall is about 200k gold short of being fully maxed out.

I'm training troops to share right now, I'm not paying much attention to the single player campaign until I get balloons.

My way is slow and boring probably, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Started this and I am a bit confused as to were my warriors go after they attack. I won the battle. had 14 survivors out of 20, hit the send home button and when it went back to my base there wasn't a warrior to be found.

Agreed. You are probably to the point you should upgrade your TH, but you could upgrade the cannons and mines first if you are patient. Cannons I'd say are more important as you want your defenses to be on par with your town hall.

Ok so the strategy is to deploy as few as possible and still win your battle or just deploy all you got to go in and crush the enemy?

Started the upgrade to TH 4 this morning, takes 24 hours. Then will upgrade defenses and resources in that order.
