Has anyone else experienced that the game will cut you off if a battle is taking too long? I had an archer out of reach of cannon fire that was slowly destroying the Town Hall and the game asked if I was still active, I said I was, and it still kicked me out, and the Goblin town was not defeated when I went back to the map.
The app will force you to reload if you don't actively do anything for something like 5 minutes. So even though your archer was fighting you yourself weren't touching the ipad so the game forced you to reload.

The only irreversible mistake early would be spending all your gems to speed up progress. I spent what they said in the tutorial and was cussing later over wishing I had that third builders hut. I did spend 5 bucks to get a "do over" on that.
it is tempting to drop that 5 bucks for a third hut.. im at 250 now and don't see that changing much anytime soon
Same here

Keep clearing those trees. It took me a long time. I got my third builder hut right before I got to 1250 trophies, so it is possible. I'm halfway to the fourth hut now.

How the hell do I defeat Gobottown? I just used six wallbreakers and 8 giants and 15 grunts and only took out three cannons.
Should I just focus on upgrading my troop camps and try to overwhelm with numbers? Or should I be attacking other players instead of goblins?
I find that the Goblins have points built into them where they expect you to have better troops or you won't be able to win anymore. When this happens you'll need to spend time upgrading first.

The new update from yesterday promises more gems when taking out stones, bushes, trees, etc. Used to get 0-3 gems per - I've now seen 5-6 gems per since the update.

Also - haven't seen it yet - but there is supposed to be a mysterious gem box that appears sometimes on the map

I'm doing solo play right now. How do I get to 1250 trophies?
When you have level 3 Barbs and Archers and level 2 Giants you'll be ready to make that push to 1250 trophies. You will need to be very picky about who you attack to get those trophies. One loss will cost you 25-30 trophies and each win is likely only going to get you 6-12 at a time. Because you won't be wiping anyone off the map at that time...you'll be settling for just finding guys who have their town hall outside their walls or a lot of unprotected building and you go for the 50% destruction win.

Pro tip: don't build a second gold or elixir storage unit. Just keep upgrading the one you have. You won't need a second one until you wish to build Town Hall lvl 7

My boys ages 11 and 9 have been playing this. I'm not sure if they're in clans with each other or not.

I've been playing Travian on and off for a few years now. It sound very similar to Clash of Clans. Is there an ending to the game? In Travian there is a long term strategy of winning the server. When someone (usually an alliance) wins the round, the server ends and a new server starts. There are several US servers going on at any given time; and there are dozens of international servers too.
Oh ####... not Travian! I spent nearly a year on that game... seemed like a decent time killer at first and then your town grows to like 20 villages and it's a real responsibility

son of aI thought the only way to increase the amount of gold I could make was too get more units.

Im up to 5500 gold pieces now. Can't imagine how long it is going to take to get to 40000

Gold mines you need more of. You are good there. He is talking storage units.

I did go ahead and by the two that I could for both gold and elixir. It's not the end of the world. The main thing is to upgrade those mines and collectors as much as you can.

I swapped my entire town setup just now based on the TH not being the center of the screen. I'll keep it posted if I found a good defensive strategy or (more likely) I get smoked.

i've been playing for a couple of weeks now. im going to join the new clan.

Name is Chois Reu

I just broke out early from the noob protected mode because I was bored and attacked some players. Destroyed both of their villiages. I feel bad.

Focus on some of the achievements. For example, clearing shrubs and rocks will earn you gems, and as you are doing that, you get closer to the "Nice and Tidy" achievements which reward a large quantity of gems for reaching the 3 levels.

Can't play this but play castle clash
I like this much better. Got bored w/ Castle Clash.

Also, I've been getting my ### handed to me lately. Need to work on my strategy. I was pushing 1200 but have had a string of bad attacks. Plus no one is attacking me and my defense usually does rather well.

When you are going to be putting the game down for a bit, get your camps full, then load up your barracks to the max. The elix and dark elix is removed from your containers even though those troops will not produce. I wish I thought of that 50 levels ago. Just remember though when you come back and donate, those troops you queued up will spit out immediately, so either pull them out or donate like for like if you are picky about what troops are in your camps.

One day left of noob protection. I've built no defenses or anything yet. Probably should do that soon before I leave it. TH is only lvl 3 still, trying to get everything else upgraded to the max, and only upgrade it when I have to.

You have an initial shield of 3 days as long as you don't go attack another human player.

This is where I disagree. Mines and collectors are important...only if you play once or twice a day.

If you are truly addicted to this game, and can play at many different points during the day, they are quite irrelevant, adding only a small piece to the pie.

They are cheap to ugprade, so it's fine to upgrade them...but there are many other things you need to concentrate on, such as offense and defense.

When I "level up", the first thing I do is upgrade barracks and laboratory. That way I can produce new units, and I can upgrade my units. 2nd focus is all the defensive buildings. The last thing I worry about is upgrading collectors and mines. After all, when you upgrade a collector, it gets you an extra 300/hour. That's not bad...but I'd much prefer to go fight and get 100k/100k. You'll get money much faster that way.

Also...don't be afraid to break your shield. Waiting on the shield to go away before attacking is a big waste of time, especially if you have the troops and need money. I rarely ever let my shield run out.

How do you the elix back from the troops
go into the queue and hit minus on each queued troop type

If you have troops queued up, the elixir is removed from your stores as soon as you click to build them. If you go back into the barracks, you can remove them from the que (click the negaitve sign link on them) the elixir is put back in your stores.

Troops are the only thing you can cancel construction on and get all of the production cost back.

Generally agree on the shield. The only time I let it run out before attacking is when I have some major piece of defense being worked on for level up. Right now I am upgrading my wizard tower and lost a battle because it was out of commission. I won't break that shield now until the tower is done upgrading.

This is probably a more fun way to play. For me, I enjoy the farming and defensive aspects of these games and accumulating over time.

I have crap for attacking strategy right now, but as I figure that out, it will probably change the way I upgrade.

Kind of crazy that the #1 guy in the world has never been attacked and he only done 2 raids himself.
I noticed that. You would think someone would go after him, just for the bragging rights. Or the cool video of getting destroyed by his defenses.

sometimes just mass archers works

just remember, losing the battle but gaining resources is a win, if there's a goliath out there with lots of level 10 mines sitting full in archer range don't be afraid to march 100 archers to their doom, cause you may just score enough gold to make it WAY profitable
