New clan. fbgs.

But you can't password protect. I could only make it invite only. So I need Clash of Clans names to invite to.
I'll hopefully try to join yet tonight. CoC name is dude
Am I in the right one if Heisenberg is in the clan?
There are two clans names fbgs. One is invite only and one is open. You want the invite only clan.
NM, found it, requested invite and looks like I am already in.
You're in and promoted.

The time limit on match battles is kinda tough. Should you just deploy all troops in order to get around it?

Dont get bogged down just because you have a shield. If I have time to attack all day I just break my shield and fight. My army takes about 20 min to build and if I get attacked during that time I just break and fight again.

My defense of resources is good, so I am gaining more than I lose and there are many times I wont get attacked during the 20 min.

There is a time to trophy build, if you cant find good opponents at your level. Other than that, leave your Townhall vulnerable and protect your storage. With the high HPs on the townhall you can often kill a lot of attackers while they take it down, leaving them with not enough left to get your resources.

Just attacked someone who left their TH completely vulnerable.

Should I move all builder huts outside my wall? What can be left unprotected with no downside? What about training yards?

Depends. If you can kill the mortar with giants or fewer troops, this can be better first. A couple mortar hits and you have no troops left if you deploy them all.

The trade off is if you deploy too few they get beaten and now you dont have enough to deploy enmasse to win.

In general, near the mortar fewer and spread them out. If mortar (and later wizard tower) are not a problem then swarm is best.

Watching out for bombs obviously...one or two first helps eliminate those.

The following have no need to be inside your walls:

Builder huts

laboratory

Barracks

Army Camps

Spell Factory

No treasure is taken by the attacker in their destruction. The only downside is that their destruction adds to the percentage destroyed, so if you are concerned with trophies, that will hurt. However, you have to be very high level to have enough walls to have them protected. I just put them right outside my walls but in range of my defenses.

Units like archers will attack the nearest structure. So the buildings he listed can help protect a defensive structure, letting a cannon pick off archers before they'll attack it, for example. Though giants and others will go right past to get to the defensive unit.

I didn't protect my mines/elixers with walls as I hope to keep them mostly empty, and then ringed the outside of my base with them and the above stuff, but in cover of my archer towers and cannons.

Another tip I picked up from the web. Don't put all your mines together and all your elixirs together, etc. Some people will attack seeking a specific resource. If you have all your elixir gatherers in one spot then someone seeking more will see you as a more tempting target than if you spread them around, only having to fight your defenses in that one spot to clean them out if you haven't emptied in awhile.

By the way, any thoughts on having a spiraling base and using traps, as opposed to fully closed compartments?

I went with a somewhat spiraling design, with a few spring traps and bombs between, hoping to keep people away from the wizard tower and mortar in the second. Though I realize the traps are only good for one attack until you reset them manually then, which is a downside.

I am a complete newbie and am still in protection, but from reading it seems like the compartment strategy is strong.

I've been pushing to get to that 1250 mark to buy the third builder but at TH5 I just can't seem to get there. Victories are netting me about 10 trophies (and I have to be really picky about who I attack) and every time I lost one I drop about 25 trophies. Couple that with getting smoked every night without a shield and I can't get over that hump.

I think I need to just sit back, go into slow play mode, and wait until I am TH6 or 7 to make that push again.

Unless, of course, someone wants to donate me hog riders a dozen times or so to tip the scales.
I'm still at TH3 and basically winning every battle, offense and defense, at about 25 trophies a pop. I think I'm going to stay there until I do all the lab upgrades and finish a complete set of level 3 walls (about halfway there). At this rate I'll be close to 750 trophies before I even make it to TH4. I'm in no hurry to level up and get crushed.
This is my strategy as well. I just need to wait for my resources to pile up so I can make those upgrades.

Who you get matched up with is based on trophies though.
Exactly. I don't level up until I get everything built and upgrade either. But the matchups is not dictated by the level of your base. It's all about trophies.

Even though I am only a TH5, I get mostly TH6 and TH7 when I try to pick a fight.

At each level, you'll find a point at which it becomes really hard to move up in the trophy rankings without developing your base more. I found that at TH5 that level is about 1100 trophies.

I've only attacked when getting revenge on easy targets. I'm still working through the single player campaign.

Can you guys look at my town setup and let me know what I can do to improve it? I moved my non-essential building outside of my walls, but still have a gap on the southwest side.

honestly, I'd put the TH and castle outside the walls, and make a smaller inner wall around your mortar and storages, and maybe another nearby wall for some cannons/archer towers.

Isn't there some sort of penalty for attacking lower TH levels? Thought I read that somewhere.
Going from what I've read, not experience, as my newbie shield lasts for another 3 hours or so.

The penalty is that they would get less resources from you than they would if they fought someone of similar level (or TH level). Not sure if trophy count is reduced also, or not. But their troops are still as effective and all.

Well, if they are taking less of my resources, that works for me.

Take a look at mine "dude" on CoC. Found the layout on clashofclansbuilder so I'm giving it a shot... Any other feedback welcome!

what level do i have to get to be in the clan?

Like most of these games like this all I'm going to do is concentrate on building resource gens until noob runs out. I would like to see how some of you are built out after noob runs out.

I would move that cannon inside the walls so it's protected. Unless you're upgrading it. And I would probably ring the outside wall around the archer tower with your builder huts and barracks so no one can drop archers to take it out right away. Then use the mines and such to be a layer at your gap between the cannons and attackers who come in that way.

Prefaced by the normal, I'm still inexperienced too, just going by what I've read.

I just started playing this yesterday and really had to pry my own fingers off of the phone. It gets addicting quickly. Reminds me a little bit of Dungeon Keeper, which I loved. I'll join the fbgs a little later if there's room. I want to build a nice foundation first before I get involved in any multiplayer stuff.

After your shield wears off you are forced into multiplayer. You should get the clan building so we can send you high level troops

When I get attacked, do my soldiers try and fight off the attackers?

My initial shield runs out in like an hour and I'm a tad nervous

My important stuff is walled in (1/2 level 2 walls and 1/2 level 1) and I've got 2 cannons, a mortar and an archer tower. My gold reserves are mostly empty at the moment (fixed the castle and started upgrading the Town center this morning) so I can't imagine I'll be a very attractive target.

invite "baller" please

also, how do I donate troops?
Someone else needs to request a donation, then you can donate. If it's a higher level player you're donating to, you may want to hold off until you have lvl 3 archers / giants...
Ah. Cool. Thanks

So I guess then my next question is...how do I know I need troops? Guess I won't really know whether my defenses will hold up until someone attacks me.

Yeah, thanks. I'll need to realign my town when I get home. :construction:

You should always be requesting when you can. The troops will both defend your base (I think they basically shoot arrows until enemies get close, then they exit your castle and attack on foot) and you can also bring them out in an attack if you need.

There is a cooldown timer on requests, I think it's 20 minutes.

Your castle will have "request" or "full" over it. I aim to keep it full but I try to make sure I'm donating more than requesting. So throwing my donated troops into every single attack is something I don't do. Before logging off, especially without a shield, it's a good idea to make sure you're full. There is also a cool down period between requests so be mindful of that.Just remember to give more than you get.
