We haven't run into a clan that can challenge us yet so it's not really a big deal, but in watching some of our attack replays, there are some odd uses of spells sometimes. Like using lightning on strange targets, or not using enough lightning to eliminate the target.

Next update for me is spell factory to upgrade to 3 spells. 2 lightings are pretty pointless, 2 heals help but trying to judge where hogs & dragons are going sometimes negate the best of intentions.

 
By the way, congrats to FBG1 for our first war where we perfectly filled our defensive clan castles. No goblins or wall breakers, everyone got valks except those who requested otherwise.

I think our CC combo is one big reason we have done as well as we have. Combine that with a lot of people not knowing how to kill CC troops first, and our lower level guys in particular soak up a lot of attacks from their similar ranked counterparts. So then people above them end up wasting attacks to get 3-stars.

Along with that, I think we just plain attack much better than other clans we see. Handling CC troops well is one part. Our army compositions is another. The TH7 guys who are willing to spend the elixir for dragons allows them to attack above their rank and still 3-star is huge for us. Our top guys using mainly hogs lets us attack at least at our rank and often above, even though those opponents are often higher TH level too. This current war we had so many 2 and 3 stars in the top half I had to drop down ten spots on my last attack just to find someone who had less than 2 stars already.

 
Just got lvl2 dragons this morning and now upgrading balloons to lvl4.

I hope that was the right decision cuz I had to option of upgrading my heal spell to 4 lvl4 as well.

 
This current war we had so many 2 and 3 stars in the top half I had to drop down ten spots on my last attack just to find someone who had less than 2 stars already.
Last ElecBoog war, I didn't have time to attack until 12 hours into the war and had to drop down as well as nothing near my level was left. Very cool stuff.

I didn't realize TH8 could get golems. Wonder how fantastically I can screw up a gowipe
450 dark elixir each.

That's 10 hours of gathering from a TH 8's max level DE drill. Just too expensive for my blood. I'm probably close to doing an upgrade where I can make them, mainly as I am getting to the point I need places to dump elixir. Doubt I'm going to use them anytime soon though because of cost.

Well one idea I had was to bank them for DE storage. Anytime I get over about 10kDE I get attacked with TH9 level troops and wiped off the map. If I can bank golems on logoff that's a huge advantage for saving up for upgrades.

 
Commentary on TH8...

Saving up for the 40k DE to upgrade hogs to level 4, I began hiding out in the 400-500 trophy range. I stopped attacking completely because whenever I did I would get swarmed by lightning revenges as I had as much as 2000+ DE lootable. I started boosting my other collectors, most of which are maxed, final 2 elixir collector upgrades underway now.

I found with max level collectors boosted, just farming was enough to keep me upgrading almost constantly. 3k per collector * 24 hours * 6 collectors = 432k of each type per day. Boosted to x2 gives you 864k resources of each type per day. Two days of that is enough to upgrade a cannon or archer. Three days is enough to upgrade mortar or wizard or tesla.

Now I'm back to attacking sub200 though I climb back to 400 when done to avoid attacks. I'm still boosting my gold but not my elixir unless I'm trying to finish off enough for an upgrade. It has taken some of the frustration out of TH8, knowing I can have such a steady income. Of course, the boosts cost gems.

That would help some. The barracks will hold 70 space, will hold two golems (900 DE) plus 2 hogs (L3 that would be 104 DE). So just over 1000 DE at my present level of hogrider. Compared to one level lower of DE barracks where you get 60 space and your best bet is 12 hogs * 52 DE = 624 DE. So able to hide an extra 380 DE.

 
By the way, putting my BK to sleep while in low trophy ranges has been money for helping me get shields from my exposed TH.

Between the two accounts, there's probably at least 1 attack each day that I get a shield from now, where if my BK was awake they'd have triggered him and he'd probably have wiped them out before the TH died.

 
I've been TH 9 for a while now after upgrading way too early. Over the last couple of weeks I've really found a sweet spot at 14-1500 trophies. I'm using Barch attacks all over the place.

Also, once you can in TH9, build a crossbow, and put TH outside walls. The xbow is intimidating to lower levels, so I get very few full on attacks. Most attacks are TH trophy hunters.

I've been sitting on up to 6 million elixr, up to 5 mil gold at times, and just one xbow was too intimidating for a full on attack apparently.

 
The upgrade limiter imo is gonna be research. I should easily have all defenses made well before all my th8 troop research maxes out. And that's with just 4 builders.

DE troop upgrades for sure. I'll be upgrading before those are done to get the 2nd DE drill. Spells and normal troops are not too bad.

 
not sure where I read this, but someone was saying in clan wars, they'll usually build a balloon for the enemy CC. lure the cc out, get them in a bunch, drop a ballon on them and once the balloon dies, it drops to the ground causing splash damage that can take out wizards. I havnt tried it yet but I know the balloon does splash when it dies

Lightning strike will usually take out a cluster of wizards.

Air defense will most likely keep a balloon from doing this.

True. Never seen a balloon do splash damage when it dies though.

I need to remember to do this, doesn't happen a lot but enough that it's a PITA when you really want him available

The 17 Apr 2013 update granted the Balloon the ability to explode and deliver splash damage when it is shot down.

The Balloon's DPS is the same as its damage upon death. (My note: 1/4 of per attack damage)

Splash range is 1.2 tiles.

A lev 5 balloon would do 108 damage on death, which won't kill a lev 5 wizard with 156 health (assuming that's what the enemy has). So you'd need lev 6 balloon to do it with 162 damage.

Of course a lev 5 could attack the wizards before dying potentially, but that would kill them outright and you wouldn't need the death splash.

I suppose if you got CC units tightly clustered, you could try dropping a few barbs to hold their fire and then a balloon right on top for a normal attack on them, and death splash if not.

Sorry about my exposted TH in this war, guys. I got deathly ill the night after the matchmaking, and avoided the tablet so I wouldn't spread it to the rest of the family.

I recovered, and ended up attacking a couple of shlubs because everyone else was already 3-starred :thumbup:

It's called bogarting your spells. There's YouTube and everything about it.

I wonder if it makes sense to do a 2x/1x week split on clan wars. I don't really think we need to roll so strong to continue domination. At a 3x a week those that want should be able to finish the achievements in about a month or so maybe.

 
I am not having the greatest luck in sub200. I am easily grabbing 10-25k gold per raid, but it just seems so slow to what I'm used to. Not seeing any 50k+ targets... mostly just targets with less than 1k. Up in the 1000+ I was easily scoring 200k per raid. While I had to exhaust far more resources to get it, I could put the ipad down while rebuilding my army. It took me 2 hours between lowering myself to 200 trophies and raiding for about 250k resources. As soon as I set the ipad down I'm back up to 500 trophies it seems.

Just to confirm, you are going down to 199 trophies and below, not just going down into the 200-299 range, right?

Taking some time off from fbg's clans to assist the group from church. Sadly I will be one of the higher members in the clan so it should be interesting. As I mentioned in clan chat, they are at 15 members and the last war they did went down to the wire 28-27. I'll let everyone know how it goes as we talked about how the larger groups are getting to be a bit ho hum with our absolute dominance. Maybe the answer is to branch off into a smaller group? Who knows. Hoping to make it back for fbg1 war on Sunday night.

We can keep the same schedule of real wars we want to win, but then just use fake wars as a way to make easy loot without much effort

What is the argument against additional practice wars, while keeping the *serious* engagement on Monday/Tuesday?

The additional wars could be "no DE" so that there is no burden on the highest guys to build everyone valks and level 4 hogs. We are so dominant that a little challenge would be welcome, IMO.

To me it isn't just about loot, I prefer the analysis/strategy of clan war format over regular farming. And there's value just in the practice alone.

Yes I know we can jump from clan to clan and I have no problem with that, just not seeing any downside to engaging more often.

Agree. I enjoy the clan chat probably more than anything and it's so valuable to learn from. This scenario also allows those of us who are not as well schooled int he art of the attack to practice up. A 9 dragon rush is almost a lock against a th7 but there are certainly more economical ways to attain the same goal. Loved all the balloonian attacks this last go around.As I've said before, this is how we learn.

 
I think we can win a war by using all elixir, giant healers, wizards, pekkas , dragnos balloons.. it can be done and would be more challenging

Just to confirm, you are going down to 199 trophies and below, not just going down into the 200-299 range, right?

which TH level are you?
just started TH6
at th6 you will be looking at looting 15k+ bases that you can get in and out real quick using a few goblins, you wont find many 100k+ bases, settle of the 15k ones because you can hit them so fast and theres 0 down time if you manage your troops right
