Just looked at the resource requirements for TH8.

To upgrade everything at TH8 you need:

98,048,050 gold (excl. walls)

65,048,550 elixir (incl. lab)

382,500 dark elixir (incl. lab)

128,560,000 gold for walls

394.58 builder days

143 lab days
Is that assuming you were maxed at TH7 when you got there?

the DE will be whats slowing me down. I want to have 40k de ready for when th9 is complete so I can get the arch queen asap

I think I'm gonna honeypot stars. Planning a lolbaloon attack on 40. The high level guys are not great honeypots and I'd rather save the DE and dump excess elixer in a more high comedy manner.

Yep, that is a complexly maxed TH7 start point.
Ok, I'm gonna go cry now.

That being said I think you can just skip Valk upgrades, and skip golem upgrades and be just fine. I'd argue that even l3 dragon is low ROI.

I agree. The DE is what is currently slowing me down at th7 as well. I'll go into th8 with everything maxed out except a de upgrade or two. Getting (and keeping) DE has been the hardest farming.

This is an argument for constant wars imo. Getting the war gems would really help us out. Gemmed up DE drill is absolutely required to make headway in DE upgrades.

Trying to decide on my upgrade path as an early TH7. Should I upgrade my barracks so I have dragons for next week's war or are Lvl1 dragons not worth using?

FWIW, I'm currently building Tesla and DE storage and upgrading Lab and Spell Factory.

This is great info igbomb -- was about to start compiling this myself, but did you find a source that has this outlined?

I'm going to make the TH9 plunge early, just not sure how early yet. At this point in the game for me, it's become all about DE, and being TH9 will net you so much more, I'm willing to take the risk.

Somebody posted a website that could track your progress. It was one of the nerdiest things ever. I can't find it.

Biggest reason to do TH9 is that with a x-bow and AQ your center DE storages/drills are basically untouchable by TH8 and below. That's worth something, but not sure what exactly.

I found a spreadsheet on reddit. Here is the link.

It's a bit out of date (looks like the last few updates are not included) but it helps understand the scope.

And this is for culdeus:

TH9

Gold: 192,366,550 (excl. walls)

Elixir: 90,448,550 (incl. lab)

Dark Elixir: 4,747,500 (incl. lab)

Walls: 1,020,530,000 (that's BILLION)

That's a good defensive reason, but my reasons are mostly offense-minded:

1) increase camp capacity

2) more spells

3) lvl 6 balloons, giants, archers, and other troops

4) clan castle upgrade

5) archer queen

6) not offense per se, but the fact that you can essentially more than quadruple DE production but getting a second drill and upgrading both to lvl 5+

I just don't see myself waiting until I've maxed all of TH8 before making this move.

Those numbers are truly depressing.

If Cstamp posts in here, dude, you gotta lure the clan castle before starting your attacks! I've seen multiple replays where you drop all your giants and watch them get bent over prison style by CC wizards!

Upgrading through TH9 is a chore. I have been working on it fur a good 7 months. Not including builds currently in progress, I need to upgrade:

2 air defense, 1 level each

4 teslas, I level each

1 xbow, 3 levels

1 xbow, levels

I have 20 percent of my walks at level 8, the rest at level 7.

Plus a number if troop upgrades in the lab, but they are troops I don't use.

It really does take a lot of resources. I am almost at the 100,000 million each of elixir and gold stolen and I have stolen about 150k in DE.

Not sure what you use to attack, but for the majority of my attacks I have used 16 giants, 8 wall breakers, 32 barbs and the rest archers with 3 rage spells and one healing. The thing that have me the biggest boost was level 6 giants. The y get so much more powerful in the boost from 5. However, I never upgrade my barbs or archers to 6. They only get about 10% more powerful, but their cost goes up 50%. Seemed like a bad ROI.

Upgrade your camps as high and as fast as you can. Larger armies overwhelm bases. And don't drop a few troops at a time. I find my best plan of attack is to come into a base from two adjoining sides. Send in se barbs as tanks, wait till a mortar is going to hit, then send in wall breakers. As soon as you drop the wb, drop half the giants, half the barbs, and a rage spell just inside their base. Doing this on two sides will overwhelm their defenses. For every tower or cannon there will be 10 targets fir it to shoot. They can't handle the numbers. When you mix on your barb king and queen it will get even easier.

Just my 2 cents.

The thing I find frustrating is the double upgrades at th8. Archers, cannons, wizard towers all go double. Teslas might as well but they are last on my list right now due to cost and time

well i failed pretty hardcore to draw out CC troops. so I put out some of my max wizards a little closer and BOOM they got hit by a big bomb. CC troops promptly picked off my baloons one by one.

Balloons themselves can sometimes be *the best* unit to draw out the CC troops. Since you were going with them anyway, and alternate approach could be to use one at the southeast end as the CC lure.

I am wary of upgrading to TH 10. I don't want my loot from TH 9 bases to go down. I attack them a lot.
stay til your maxed, im going to max out th8 before moving on
walls too
No way

I've given my impressions of wall upgrades earlier in the thread but I'm at level 7 walls now (purple) and given the minimal impact on wallbreaker defense as you go higher and the trend for attacks from units that ignore walls, the benefit of higher level walls is so minor that I'm not going to bother.

Hate to have to tell you this, TH8 there are 3 tesla upgrades, from lev 3 to lev 6. Costs are 2m, 2.5m and 3m and durations are 8d, 10d and 12 days.

So might want to get started on them so you're not stuck with idle builders for a month because the only upgrades left are teslas. I didn't realize how many upgrades they had until this last week... I'm going to start in on more of them to avoid that. There's 30 days of upgrades per tesla alone. :(

I just got to TH7 just about two weeks ago, My village is uhm in game. Here's the path I've taken so far and my plan based on input here and how I wanna war going forward.

1. Built all of the new buildings except Dark Rax and upgraded them enough to be same level as my other TH6 maxed buildings starting with the defensive buildings. (done)

2. Upgraded Lab. Archer - Giants - Healer - Dragon - Barb is the order I am taking based on my play style. Archers & giants are done, healer will be done tomorrow.

3. Upgrade new rax (#4) to dragon level. This will be done tomorrow, I will be taking one more rax to this level as soon as this one completes so I can have 3 rax up for farming. I've been using Giants + Healers for war attacks, will switch to dragons when this is done.

4. Max out storage buildings.

5. Build Dark Rax so I can start hiding some DE from raids as I start to save up for my BK.

6. Max out defense.

7. Build BK. This one is not gonna be easy I see unless I raid way more often.

8. Max out everything else.

Seeing that TH8 upgrade path above, I think I'll be at Th7 for a few months. With most upgrades at TH7 3+ days, nightly shields are a premium. I'm also hoping to get my fourth builder soon, I have close to 950 gems saved. C'mon gem box!

Need to pay more attention to this thread so that I can get in more wars. I want those gem bonuses so I can get the extra builders. I don't really understand why we aren't warring constantly. With war bases saving it makes it pretty painless. The only thing that really needs adjusting are any wall upgrades done. Even that isn't totally necessary.
Because a lot of people donate a lot of DE troops to the masses.
I'm not convinced this is even all that necessary. Would be an interesting experiment to try a war without donated DE troops. I think the key to our success is largely in the activity level of the clans.

Yeah, i mean it's not like there isn't an incentive to at least get 6 stars from low level people for the gems if you are on the other side. If you are getting bent over then that's easily the most +EV way to do clan wars assuming you don't have 150 yet.

PSA to the parent of Kittens; My and my older son are the only members left in FBG3: the minors. We will soon be bailing. I want to come back to one of the main fbg clans so I can get back into warring. My son is either going to follow me or join a rl friends clan. Either way, kittens will be the only one left...
Got it, thanks for the heads up, I'll let them know... I may end up going over there in a couple of weeks when I have some business travel and won't have time to war. I've considered letting them come over to the one of the main clans, but their base is still pretty weak, so wasn't sure if I should keep them away until they're stronger.

IMO, Valkyries chopping up inexperienced attackers is a significant factor in our success. What non-DE unit can we replace them with that wouldn't swing the star totals too far in the wrong direction?

I'm just a little over 4 days away from building my own hog riders, so in theory I can have somewhat similar success in my war dragon rush.

Dragons would still wreck most attacks.

Was the approach I was taking in this one and subsequent wars until I get PWNED. My thought is the bottom third or fourth of our lineup get the valk/wiz combo as they tend to hit a lot and tend to defend like champs, everyone else, pick your poison. I like the wiz/arch combo or just straight wiz. Big dragon fan but i find he moves too slow sometimes even though he can take a shot.

I bet if you go back and look, the majority of our attacks against that defended where our bottom 15 or so.

They are definitely fun to watch, but are quite irrelevant in the actual war. We are averaging 120 stars or so, our opponents not half that.

Even if we allowed them a chance to 3-star our bottom third, still none of these recent wars would be close.

If we are keeping any DE troop, the Valks are definitely the most valuable to our success. As stated above, it is a huge help to our lower members. I feel the bottom 15-20 benefit most from the valks. The last 2 wars I think I've held 12 attacks to 0 stars largely due to the valks slicing up mass quantities of giants/barbs.

Even with all that said, it would be interesting to try just using high-level wizards for CC.
