Ok here's my condensed feelings on the state of mods as it relates to two types of wars. Serious wars and mixed wars.
Serious wars
Caveats
- For the most part serious wars are maxed players hitting maxed bases at their own TH. The game it balanced to the point where maxed offense should beat maxed defense if the attacker is skilled at all and has a chance to plan. From the perspective of the non maxed player seeing maxed players get 3 stars might be un-nerving, but really you are looking at a completely different play level.
- For the most part these guys are in clans with 5-10 people that actually plan the #### out of everything. They are used to the pacing of 3 star raids and have seen them executed, alot and know what it takes to take down a max base.
My thoughts on the TWCs (Top War Clans) is that yes, most likely they mod their attacks. But really, after watching them I'm just not sure it matters. The vast majority of their attacks come in one of 3 flavors. Walk queen, kill queen, raid. Shatter/stoned, raid. Or some sort of exotic hybrid. Most of the 3 stars, if not all but 2 in the major war this weekend were on cleanup attacks. Most of the wars I watch now the only 1st attack 3 stars are max th9 on th9. Maybe there are some 1st attack 3 stars on TH10 these days, but a mod just isn't going to get it for you.
Rehearsal, matters, yes. But for the majority of these raids up to 150 camp slots are tied up in the walk and golems. From that point you are looking at 15 or so hogs and maybe a few wiz for cleanup. That's roughly 20 button presses in 3 minutes. Maybe less. These raids are both simple in their simplicity and execution. Mods, probably as they are don't really impact things for those types of raids. I think you setup the cc yourself now on the mods, so that does help sort of figure out where that would factor, but the clan castle is so weak now to max heroes and especially walking maxed heroes that I don't think it matters.
I think people are mad at modders, but the people today are working with 25% of the power it used to have. Teslas don't pop, bombs don't pop, you don't get exactly the same track on hogs and loons, that all matters for the big 3 stars. I think the situation now is good enough, not perfect, but good enough. It's not worth just writing their raids off as modded. People can pull these off, you can learn from them, it's foolish to just toss them aside as if they don't exist. Don't go trying this stuff on super max bases, but certainly on what we call "TH9 with inferno" level bases with what we have, and we are doing it now.
For Mixed Clans
For your serious war clan with 10+ TH10s mods to me seem totally dead. Since they killed mods I never, ever, ever see anything that I would even remotely call suspicious. Mainly because the mixed clans now are content to just vanilla ground people, and vanilla ground got a monster boost in the latest update so they just roll with it. No amount of rehearsal helps with those raids imo. Drop your troops, pray for 3, or just get 2 and move on. I really can't recall the last time we saw a clan actually try more than 2 or 3 legit 3 star raids that didn't look just god awful. I think mods are dead at the mixed clan level, I do, we would have run into a few if not. Even in prior wars I'd flag a few raids as fishy, VA was good at spotting fishy raids too. Maybe I don't even know what a fishy raid looks like, we just get so few 3 star attempts on decent bases now that I don't really know how to judge it.
If you remember Turtles, for example, what they used mods for to perfection was they knew the most efficient way to pop and kill any clan castle. It was unreal. Supernatural. And what do you know, it was modded. That stuff just doesn't work anymore.
On a new topic, rabbits.
From watching the chats there is a new mod or exploit of sorts that is running around. People I think are calling this "rabbiting" (see caveat below) You get a 50 person clan with only maxed 9/10, don't even need that many, talking like 15 or 20. Then you fill the ranks with TH7 and 8 and a few random global spares. You use the TH7 and 8 to pop ccs and set traps then your big guys just go mop the floor with the other team. There's some discussion that these guys are or are not modding, or whether this is more an exploit like X.5. FWIW we are now running rabbits on occasion since we can't get 50. Obviously we don't use the mods to find the traps, but tbh I don't really see how that would help. In the 50/50 war using rabbits got us 2 3 stars a lot faster than it would have otherwise.
What people don't like is that you draw weaker clans and then use that weakness against them when they might have legit TH7 trying to learn the game. So it goes. Most of the asian clans now that are vaulting up the win total ranking are what people call rabbits. The thought process is they are win/xp farming to sell their Level 10 clan later this year.
I sort of like the concept, it's basically a .5 on steroids. You would need alot more than what we have and they are just there to farm loot in farm wars or "rabbit".
Caveat: I'm unsure if the concept of "rabbit" means you send a th7 to scout with idea you xmod it later, or whether it's just sending a weak base to scout cc and teslas, obviously not condoning the xmod version of this. The terminology of this technique is not clear to me, but the execution is. The term "bunnies" has been used as a alias of xmod in the past so there is a connection there.
