Season ending injury to Jared Devries should give Avril a lot more playing time.

Last week vs Cleveland Avril didn't show up in the stat sheet (one ST tackle ) however, thought he looked good against one of the better LTs in the league (Joe Thomas). Against a lesser opponent he probably gets a pair of sacks. One thing holding him back, which was noted in IDP roundtable, being more a factor on run defense.

That ranking is dynasty. I have consistently had him in the middle to low DL2 tier in redraft since preseason began. As far as Avril's redraft ranking, the key is whether he starts. Right now, it's hard to say because the Lions have been trying all kinds of combinations on defense. My gut says he will start, but it's not based on any factual news because frankly, there is none. The Lions have not said anything. A lot of us are wondering, for example, why Julian Peterson is not playing in the nickle packages and Larry Foote is. There is little news here. As a rule, I don't overreact to preseason games and generally do not make major changes to my rankings until after the 3rd preseason game, unless there is some verifiable news about a player. A lot of teams experiment a lot in the early preseason games as they try to see what certain players can do in certain packages.
