Clinton Portis (1 Viewer)

Hang 10

Who led the NFL in rushing yards in Week 10? Clinton Portis, who didn't average four yards per carry but still was able to rack up 137 rush yards and 20 receiving yards

Sorry, Dave but your math skills could use a bit of work. 137 yard on 30 carries works out to be 4.57 yards per carry. Also, what’s up the sportsline hate for Portis? Every week it seems the fantasy analysis takes shots at Portis for whatever reason. Here are some examples:

Clinton Portis (vs. PHI): Portis has a good history against the Eagles with six touchdowns in his past five games. But he only has one 100-yard game against Philadelphia over that span and only ran for 69 yards in their Week 2 matchup. After running for 196 yards on 36 carries last week against the Jets, I'm concerned about a letdown for Portis.

So after rushing for almost 200 yards the previous week and having a good history vs. the eagles AT HOME we should sit Portis?

Redskins RB Clinton Portis had 30 carries for 137 yards and four catches for 20 yards vs. Philadelphia in Week 10. Those are pretty good statistics, but not one of Portis' touches went for more than 13 yards, so he was limited in his production outside of the amount of touches he had.

Portis will have another tough matchup in Week 11 when he plays at Dallas. He had 84 rush yards and a touchdown against the Cowboys in one game last year but isn't anything better than a No. 2 Fantasy RB for the coming week's action.

So 157 all purpose yards and 20+ fantasy points are LIMITED outside of the touches he had? BTW, what does that even mean? Aren’t a lot of touches supposed to be a good thing? Also, Portis is currently the #10 ranked RB in our FF league but every week you guys keep telling us that he’s no better than a #2 RB?

I’m just a little confused by the “haterade” you guys must be drinking. Portis is turning out to one of the best value picks of everyone’s drafts and yet every week we should sit him or expect no better than #2 RB stats based on the advice of CBS “gurus”. Please, stop the hate…congratulate.
Here's a letter i sent to CBS's own Dave Richard. Does anyone else notice the constant negativity when you read they analysis on portis every week? maybe it was all the betts koolaid they drank in the off season. :dunno:

Unless you are his agent or a family member of his... who cares. If they talk bad about him then someone might buy into it and you can get him in some league. Form your own opinion...

Yeah, I totally agree. I think it's a matter of pride. They were pretty down on Portis this summer, and for whatever reason don't want to admit they were wrong.

I love cbs' comments - for comedic effect.

If only we had a chance to actually hold them accountable for their stupid comments. Something like...

Ok, if Portis is a decent #2 RB next week, WHO THE HELL are the 12 guys you have ahead of him? The guy has run for nearly 350 yards the past two weeks, gets almost ALL the carries, gets almost ALL the goaline looks...

but he is a #2.

I hope CBS continues to spew the nonsense they offer as fantasy advice in hopes that some of the other owners in my league follow it. I'm pretty sure there are several guys that submit their starting lineups based upon the "guru". Not that any fantasy advice is right or wrong, but they seem to have a standard formula based upon injury status. I have seen Tom Brady's guru numbers fluctuate within the week simply due to the Pats putting him on the injury report.

There are good reason to hate Portis. He has killed a lot of fantasy squads over the years. I don't care what his stats are lately, I still would not want him on my team.

I like this line:

After running for 196 yards on 36 carries last week against the Jets, I'm concerned about a letdown for Portis.
If you interpret letdown to mean "a decrease in yards" then of course he's going to have a letdown the week after gaining 196 yards. By the way, I correctly predicted a "letdown" for Adrian Peterson this week after his 296 yards/3 td performance.

2002 = 16 Games, 1872 total yards, 17 TDs, 18.1 PPG2003 = 13 G, 1905 yds. 14 TDs, 21.1 PPG2004 = 15 G, 1550 yds, 7 TDs, 13.1 PPG2005 = 16 G, 1732 yds, 11 TDs, 15.0 PPG2006 = 8 G, 693 yds, 7 TDs, 13.9 PPG2007 = 9 G, 942 yds, 6 TDs, 14.5 PPGYeah, that is exactly the kind of guy I don't want on my team. :rolleyes: I guess you owned him last year.

Yes, Sportsline has been hating on him all season long.

Yes, Sportsline is wrong 90% of the time and usually spouts advice that would hurt your team if you followed it.

Sportsline is idiot.

seemed like your calls have been answered (he took the math problem out of his update)

I have been laughing at the analysis of Portis all year. You would think they were talking about Cedric Benson in their stupid blurbs about Portis.

The funny thing is, people look at that & some buy whatever CBS says.

A few idiots in my league base their lineup decisions on how many points the CBS Guru has each player scoring. A guy benched MJD for Holmes because the Guru had Holmes for 25pts or some ridiculous number, must've been an error.

I doubt you could trade Portis for full value in any CBS league, because the owners will read his player news & think.. "do I really want to give up xxx for a #2 running back?.."

So basically what they are saying is he never broke a long gainer and instead just consistently ate up 4 or 5 yards a pop? And this is a bad thing?

That is correct. Everyone in my league was down on him because CBS said this or that.Idiots. I ended up getting Boldin, when I think his value is much higher.Hope Boldin's soft schedule works out.

Huh? Why trade him if his perceived value is lower than his actual value?Boldin is pennies on the dollar. Are you sure the other guys in your league are idiots?
