Closers, Closers in waiting, and Middle relief...... (1 Viewer)

I now have two Astros relief pitchers on my roster.

I don't understand how people say fantasy baseball is fun.
You need to get in a normal league, 12 or 13 teams. Cake is no fun because there are no free agents and you pick up guys like Delmon Young hoping he is good for four days. My home league is the most fun fantasy league I've ever been in, in any sport. And you know how I adore Uber.
Why do we have 16 in cake? There were like 7 people drafting that I've never even seen post here before.
Ask Shuke/Pickles, I think it's part of the whole Cake shtick. I think 14 teams max for baseball, really any North American sport.

I was a co-founder of that league, I'm gonna start a revolution next year.

Lol

I just know at the end we were waiting around for two more teams to join. Not sure why 14 was off the table.

Houston just gave a SV opp to a guy who went undrafted in the 45 round BTTF draft
They gave the 9th inning save op to a guy with a 13.50 ERA.
But he's an experienced closer. He got a save last year. It only took him four tries to convert the one.

I think I'm just going to hold on Fields in this mess. Or get out of it altogether.
Fields is the only one I have across three teams, and I'm not messing with any of the others either.

These questions get asked about cake every year. People only care when they're the ones losing guys. By the time February rolls around, there's no support for positive change.

Cake league is a fun draft but beyond that it's a miserable slog, whose outcome is determined 99.999% by luck and injuries. And that's not sour grapes.. TRE and I had a pretty good run and I am solidly in the black.

The short answer is, this is the way the guys who run it want it.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned it to Shuke when we started drafting but it's not a huge deal. Like you said, it's a fun draft and that alone is worth the hundred bucks to me.

Still a legit question to ask.

Gut feeling, who gets first shot at gig in Chicago, Rondon or Strop?
I'd guess Rondon.

Though, I did take a flyer on Grimm (Rondon/Strop both gone), hoping to hit the lottery with his SP eligibility should he somehow land the role.
Could be wrong, but Rondon has been the best guy in that dumpster fire of a bullpen so far this year. Strop was effective after coming over from Baltimore last year so he may get the first crack.

Good question. I'm ready to go back to 14.

I like Santos and he should be the closer for the rest of this week.

The other 2 are kind of a toss-up to me. Maybe slight nod to Street because all his games are at home so they should be close and he's clearly the closer no matter what, though Kelley is pretty safe for this week, I think.

Thanks for the advice, this is where i was leaning also

Bastardo a good pickup? Papelbon gonna come down with a phantom arm injury?
I picked him up this morning, worst case he helps with K's and ratios like Doolittle.
Diekman getting a save opp tonight, FWIW.edit: FTR, b/c Pap has throw 3 days in a row.
shelled
:tfp:
Yeah, that was bad.
:lmao: Bastardo is obviously the handcuff right? I believe he also has thrown 3 days in a row.

Bastardo has started off poorly too.
He has walked too many guys and isn't striking out as many as normal, but it is 7.1 innings and he has only given up 1 hit.
My home league is very speculative on closers and has eight owners from the Philadelphia metro, and no one has him. Seems a bit strange to me.
Papelbon has a long leash. I took a flyer in TREleeg on Mike Adams who will be activated tomorrow. If he has anything left at age 35 he'll be helpful in the peripheral categories at least. ####### Ruben Amaro is paying Adams a lot so maybe that will be a factor after Papelbon implodes. I'm ignoring the fact that Adams only has 4 saves in almost 400 MLB appearances because it doesn't fit my narrative.
