Coaches note about Grant and Jackson (1 Viewer)

The running back position as a whole has been a bit unsettled in part because Grant missed the first week of camp while his long-term contract was being finalized. Then, he sustained a hamstring injury that kept him out against the Bengals and out of practice this week. So it’s unclear how the workload will be divided between Grant and Jackson, who has had perhaps the best camp of all the backs.

“I don’t think we want to wear down one particular player,” Philbin said. “So it’s going to have to be some semblance of balance in there.”

Said Bennett: “In the past, we’ve used certain players in certain packages. Come Week 1, we’ll have a plan in place.”

Didn't we hear this last year, and Ryan still got a sizeable majority? Don't have numbers in front of me.

Not one RB in the entire league gets all the touches from the RB spot.

Grant averaged 22 touches a game last year once he became the started. That would give him 350+ touches over a full season.

I would not be worried that they are going to limit his workload to an amount that will impact his fantasy scoring. If they give 10 touches to someone else, Grant will still get plenty of work. All teams do this.

the article did make it seem like a foregone conclusion that he would not be the third down back. That right there could be the amount of RBBC we are looking at.

If Jackson continues to stink at blitz pickups, he might not be much of a factor at all.
Great point. Although he had a couple of eye-popping runs versus Cincy, he was awful on several occasions with reading/reacting the blitz. With the limited depth at QB, combined with Rodgers' injury history, the Packers will be hesitant to use BJ if he doesn't improve his technique.

On one of Jackson's runs, he danced behind the line before managing to bounce outside. He still has a long way to go running the ball.

The end result turned out ok, but, probably 9 times out of 10, that will be a 5 yard loss.

I've been in the CO the last 2 weeks- has Grant signed yet?

I think the longer Grant is on the sidelines stomping his feet the more likely it is we'll see a RBBC.

Jackson needs to improve his blocking, but it's always bad news when a RB holds out of camp. He's not taking hits, gelling with the offensive line, QB etc. It's just a bad situation and the longer it continues to cloudier it gets.
