Cole Hamels (1 Viewer)

Last year he pitched 132 INN which he has already surpassed. He is on pace for 220 innings right now. His minor league stats show nothing near this workload for any given year. What are the thoughts out there? Will he crash an burn? or continue to go much like he has been? I was considering shopping him around a little.

He's a changeup pitcher, so he'll be OK with the additional innings. Just look what James Shields is doing this year.

You could very well be right, but Shields pitched 185 innings last year between AAA and the bigs...as I look again, adding in Hamels minor league numbers he tossed 160 last year, so it is not as drastic as I first thought.

Changeups don't strain your arm any less. The whole point of a changeup is that your arm action is the same as a fastball, you just have more fingers on the ball to create drag and fudge up the hitter's timing.

My point was that changeups aren't nearly as stressful on a young pitchers arm as breaking balls.
