Colin Kaepernick Thread and related anthem kneeling issues/news (30 Viewers)

This thread is amazing. I usually come to this forum to get football news, especially now with the season just starting. But decided to visit the politics forum as a timewaster.

What's with the poster that gets all up in arms defending kaepernick , be it his play, or more puzzling, his nickname?

I visit a ton of forums, and never seen anything like it.  I find it very strange, even bizarre, to say the least.

Is it just me?

Lions are not happy with the 2 backups they have right now and looking to add a QB. Wonder if they will kick the tires on Kappy?

He couldn't make the Lions any worse

Or any better. Lions have no interest.

Thought with Hard Knocks a tryout for Kappy would be good theatre. Looks like Sapp was correct about the Raider tryout.

Sapp wasn't at the practice and doesn't have a track record of being a reliable source of information.

Appears he was correct. No one, including LV, seems to want him around because he stinks

Says who? Some social justice internet Warrior? No reason to believe you over him.

Give me one example where Sapp broke a story supposedly with inside information like this that no one else had. :coffee:

Wut?

The burden is on you to prove it to us. Simply "breaking" a story does not make one reliable or unreliable. If I had to choose between a SJiW and Warran Sapp regarding football news, I'll take Sapp all day long.

The only person proven unreliable here is you with your continued posts about Kaepernick, your claims about LGBTQ not having Civil Rights and knee-jerk posts asserting that "X isn't a reliable source" yet providing ZERO evidence to back any of that up.

No one reported this but Sapp and he wasn't present at the practice. No one has yet to come forward publicly, to go on the record and verify what Sapp said. Bottom line is that he probably just made it up to get some publicity (and it worked).

Can anyone show me where Sapp has ever proven to be reliable source of inside information? I have never seen him do it, so the burden is not on me because it is impossible to prove a negative (that something didn't happen).

If the workout was so good, why isn't he on a roster? Owners want to win. QB is the most important position on the team. If he was any good he would be on a team

Patience grasshopper. No one saw the workout but the Raiders (it wasn't filmed or broadcast). I have said that if he didn't catch on with the Raiders, his chance would come once we got into the season and QBs and backups started getting injured (look at the end of the season the last couple years as who got signed in the last 6 weeks). I think attrition at the QB position should result if some teams giving a look during the season and if so, he might get signed.

6 years out of the league and you think he might get signed ?

6 years out of the league because he was blackballed, so not your typical absence for that length of time. So, yes it might happen (don't think I would lay any money on it even if the mods allowed betting on things).

6 years since he decided to spend a minute doing something he knew would make a lot of NFL fans upset and he accepted all the consequences of his actions

choices suck sometimes - ask Kap, but he has made millions from that kneeling .... we could argue it was the best career move he's ever made actually

6 years out of the league because his talent wasn't such that teams wanted to put up with the circus that would come with signing him. If he was actually really good he wouldn't have spent 6 months out of the league.

I hear the Cowboys could use a QB. I'm sure Jerry Jones will give him a chance. (y)

I mean, who wouldn't want a selfish, not very good, 35 year-old former PR nightmare QB who hasn't played a down in 6 years? Seems like this is a no-brainer!!!!

Sign'em up, Jerrah!!!!

No, that is very unlikely given his previous views on players kneeling during the anthem.

NFL players have moved on from the kneeling. So that is not an issue.

Plus not sure Kappy is even working out anymore after the Raiders debacle.

I doubt that.

One and only one person in the world reported that the Raider's workout was a debacle, which was Warren Sapp (and he wasn't even present at the workout).

Yeah, there's this great QB sitting out there but everyone would rather lose than employ him. You really think this is how it works? I think the crush is clouding your judgment on this one

Irvin shuts down Kappy talk.

"Let’s stop with this Colin Kaepernick stuff. Let’s just stop it. Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for what over five years now," Irvin said on Monday's edition of ESPN's First Take, shutting down the Stephen A. Smith suggestion that the Cowboys give Kaepernick a try in place of the injured Dak Prescott. "Come on, man. Let’s stop all of a sudden thinking we can go resurrect Colin Kaepernick and he’s going to come and resurrect a football team. Not going to happen."

Stephen A Smith thinks the Dallas Cowboys should give Colin Kaepernick a call, despite that he hasn’t played in over 5 years.

He says they won’t, though, not because he isn’t good enough but because Texas is too “patriotic.”
With all due respect, Stephen A. Smith's modus operandi is to spout controversial takes. It's who he is.

You really need to give this Kaepernick thing a rest. In his prime, he was a decent QB, probably better (given the right system and coaching) than most of the posters in this thread will acknowledge, but certainly not elite by any stretch. Was he treated unfairly? Yes, probably. Depends how much you count the "distraction" theory. However, at this point, it's over. After 5+ years, he's not going to play again. He's not a starting QB right now. At best, he's a practice squad QB today and it's not going to change.

I actually wanted to see Kappy try to play again in X season just to see if he had anything left. When the Raiders bailed on him it was over.

Not sure why after 5 years out of the NFL but Squis is still really invested in Kappy. Thoughts Squis?

He’s too old, it’s been too long, he doesn’t have the needed skill set any more. Not gonna happen.

That doesn’t mean that he wasn’t unfairly treated for being an angry black quarterback with views that the NFL ownership, all white and mostly extremely conservative, didn’t approve of. I think he was mistreated. I think they conspired to blackball him. Can never be proved but I’m pretty sure that’s what happened.

And the glee that some have taken over the years in this thread whenever a rumor of his return is ultimately dismissed is both sad and pathetic, IMO.

The bottom line is NFL is all about making $$$$$ and winning. Risk-reward. If Kappy could have provided one of those two things he would have been on a team.

Could he have hung around as a backup? Sure..but then the risk-reward business factor of the game comes into play. But I agree at his age and this being his 6th season out of the league it is very slim to return.

If Cowboys are looking why not RGIII? Still pretty fresh out of the league and a Baylor player to boot.

The Raiders didn't bail on him. He got a workout, which happens all the time when a team is considering future options in the event their starting QB or backup QB are injured. Not every workout results in a team signing.

The Raiders thing never made sense to begin with. Assume for sake of argument he has something left. His style of play and Carr's style of play are wildly different. If Carr went down, you'd have to retool the entire offense to fit Kaep's style. Again, assuming for sake of argument he has something left, it would make a lot more sense on a different team.

What term would you use? Either a team signs a given player whoever it is, or they bail on a given player whoever it is.

When you don't get hired by a NFL team after a tryout, that is the very definition of them bailing on you. They moved on because they did not like what they saw.

What is it with you and trying to redefine terms and meanings to mean something other than what it actually means?

My take is they were just kicking the tires (so to speak) for future reference. Teams give workouts all the time for that reason. There is no commitment implied, so if there is no obligation expected or implied, then they can't be bailing.

agreed - Kap isn't NFL capable and hasn't been for a long time, add the me-first drama he brings and he's not worth a roster spot

I think people build Kap up to show how they support a cause of a movement .......... why we can't just be objective and say Kap isn't a good QB and move on baffles me

No proof for your views but still attacking posters for their opinions. Great work

It's like people in this thread think he was Joe Montana or Steve Young who was left to sit and die on the vine. The guy couldn't pass for anything. For all the personal views, I pulled for him with the 49ers. Went to see him in the NFC Championship Game when they visited Atlanta. The bottom line is defenses quit honoring the pass with him. The windows were bigger for him than they are for most QB's because of that. The fact he couldn't pass against those defensive schemes ended his career. Everyone conveniently forgets that Eric Reid who also knelt kept on playing in SF after Kaepernick was released. The 49ers aren't exactly afraid, nor are in a market to cause them to be afraid, of someone with his political lean.

The NFL has moved on. Years ago. Have to realize this is the 6th season Kappy has not been in the league. Players have been retired for 5 years and been elected to the HOF since he last played.

Always enjoy the circle jerk in this thread.
Whatever turns you on I guess. To each their own
Not surprised you can’t comprehend what I’m conveying. Typical.

Sure we do. You like watching circle jerks.

Like stealthy said, to each their own. As long as you're not hurting anyone while doing it go nuts.
Context means a lot. I wouldn’t expect you to be blind to it. You definitely have tunnel vision.
No, really, we understand. You like watching circle jerks. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone.
