Ty Simpson does so much of what I want from a franchise QB. He’s the most advanced quarterback in the class at reading defenses pre-snap, identifying pressures, and changing protections. He’s got a real NFL arm — the ball jumps out of his hand, he hits tight-window throws, and he accesses every level of the field. He’s mobile too, able to create off-schedule with touch and velocity.
His one downfall showed up in the FSU and OU games: handling pressure. There are moments where he gets skittish in the pocket, bails from clean pockets, or speeds up his mechanics and misses throws he normally hits. It’s part of his game that still needs refinement.
But the discourse around him this past week calling him a “Day 3 pick” is completely bizarre. Ty Simpson is a first-round quarterback with a legitimate shot to be QB1.
As far as who I’ll crown QB1… I’ll save that for my rankings dropping December 20th.
