i've watched Foster for years now and there is almost no way he becomes a solid NFL RB. He just isn't very good. Mediocrity at it's finest, i never understand when i see draftnits having him going in round 2 of the 2009 draft. THere is NO way that happens.i have been keeping an eye on Ringer, Arian Foster of Tenn (saw him live when UCLA upsett Tenn and he looked good minus the fumble) and McCoy. Looks like a few more too watch on this list.

He is already on someones roster and a well known comodity. Looking for the next slaton, mendenhall, chris johnson types. The guys that get a shot later in college and make it to the top of the NFL draft.Wells and Moreno already taken. No love for Chris “Beanie” Wells?
I may have missed it earlier in the thread, where is he playing?Foster has a history of fumblitis and isn't that special otherwise. Dwyer is a great combination of power and speed that is a little bit under most people's radar. 8.1/carry right now.
Him too?John Clay will be a break out player next year. Right now he is in the rotation with a bunch of talented RBs. Clay is a beast in the running game and is learning the other parts of the game so he can be on the field more. He will be playing on Sundays and making a lot of yardage for some team.
I think it's worth noting that Ingram's father - former Spartan and NY Giant - is a total disaster as a human being. He's been convicted of numerous felonies and just last month was sent back to prison for money laundering. Ingram jr. heading south to 'Bama instead of MSU as was kind of expected is thought by many to have been a bit of an escape. He's got a lot of baggage. I sincerely hope he succeeds, but he's had a rough life.I posted my thoughts on Ingram from the South Carolina-Alabama game In This LinkWould be interested to hear more about Ingram. I'm waiting to see what Ringer can do against a real college defense before annointing him, but I'm not sure he'll see one all year. He has the "big 10 RB" thing going against him. I like him, but I'm afraid he'll be an NFL bust. Its october and Javon Ringer and LeSean McCoy are looking good. Any other thoughts??

Correct - Mrs. Ingram wanted Jr. to be as far away from his father as possible. Mark Jr. is a quality individual. However, he will have some serious competition next year with Trent Richardson, the #1 RB in Florida who will join the Tide in this recruiting class.MSULions said:I think it's worth noting that Ingram's father - former Spartan and NY Giant - is a total disaster as a human being. Color me unimpressed with what I've seen of Ringer. Smallish with a sub par burst. I don't see much to get excited about. My early top 4 in no particular order:Looks like 35 names or so in the thread, any updates as we move through the season? Ringer is getting a lot of press as is Donald Brown.
Definitely possible. McKnight is the media darling in the USC backfield, but he might not be the best pro prospect. He's a lesser version of Reggie Bush.Johnson is a legit NFL prospect, but he might not have enough heat to leave school early. These two runs make me think he's worth watching though:The only thing I'd offer as an update is that the more I see him run, the more I'm convinced that Stafon Johnson out of USC will be a good NFL RB and will certainly have more impact in the NFL than McKnight does.
Exactly my thoughts as to McKnight. As for Johnson, he's got the right combination of size, strength and speed, and his running style does not involve any dancing. He finds a hole and he hits it, just like good NFL RB's do.Definitely possible. McKnight is the media darling in the USC backfield, but he might not be the best pro prospects. Well said. He is overrated, but someone will draft him in the first round in a rookie draft. Here are some Ringer highlights:

Pretty average if you ask me. I certainly don't see anything in there that makes me think he's a franchise NFL RB.
He sounds like his upside is around Michael Pittman territory, eh?<----- Vol homerbecause the draftniks know that he is the best pass-receiving big RB in the country and it's not closenice soft hands out of the backfield, catches even badly thrown passes, and can catch the ball over his head 30 yards downfield and DBs bounce off of him after the catchi know fantasy-football-owners focus on the 3-down feature backs and have a hard time understanding that NFL teams actually are interested in pass receiving backs for 3rd down situations ONLY - he is what he is, a serviceable big-size RB who has great handsi have no love for foster (he has no-hit fumbled away 3 games in his career and has below average speed), and i can't see him being a long-term 1st and 2nd down back either - he is an enigma, great hands pass-receiving but fumbles without being hit - but i do see his qualitiesi've watched Foster for years now and there is almost no way he becomes a solid NFL RB. My first tier (in no particular order) is Knowshon Moreno, CJ Spiller, Chris Wells, and LeSean McCoy.After they're gone I would probably take a gamble on Shonn Greene or Stafon Johnson.well our draft is this week. any final thoughts on players?McCoy - Lightning quickness. Size? Character? Davis - Mediocre IMO. Backup material in the NFL. Ringer - Fraud.D Brown - Fraud.Stafon Johnson - Emerging as a legitimate first day prospect. Decent gamble. K Williams - In the doghouse. Chronic underachiever with upside.Charles Scott - Having a good year, but I'm not a huge fan.B Minor - Don't know of him.Javid Best - Talented and lightning fast, but smallish.others?
Ringer will be a bust. When they play Psu in the final game of the season they will play a good DEF. Psu held Pryor down all game.I'm waiting to see what Ringer can do against a real college defense before annointing him, but I'm not sure he'll see one all year. McCoy and Moreno ... write them down already.Hope the guy with #1 grabs Wells.I traded Willie Parker a midseason last year for two 1st round picks (2008/2009), and got the #7 overall pick, and the poor guy is doing even worse now, and I will likely get his #2 or #3 overall pick.So I'm really interested in this crop, as my RBs are really weak right now.
Sounds like a Denver target if I ever heard of one. If drafted mid-late 2nd by the Broncos or they trade up in the 3rd for him, he'll be an instant top 8 rookie pick.Definitely possible. I think he looks good, too. He is very quick and seems to have good visiongranted i've only seen him play one game, but Kendall Hunter from OK state looks like he's got all the nuances in his game to excel at the pro level.
I am a Georgia homer but I have to say that Moreno will not be nearly as good at the NFL level as alot of people seem to think. He lacks top-end speed and isn't big enough to run over people. If you only weigh 210 or less, you need to have breakaway speed, which he lacks. He is an amazing runner with great balance, vision, first-step explosion, and elusiveness. If only he had better speed.... I hope he stays in school and goes for the Heisman next year with the very overrated Matthew Stafford gone to the NFL.McCoy and Moreno ... write them down already.Hope the guy with #1 grabs Wells.I traded Willie Parker a midseason last year for two 1st round picks (2008/2009), and got the #7 overall pick, and the poor guy is doing even worse now, and I will likely get his #2 or #3 overall pick.So I'm really interested in this crop, as my RBs are really weak right now.
I'd have to agree, but he can surely be a solid RB - just not an elite guy. The speed/weight ratio has to be lower than we'd want.Green is one of the guys I wish I had more chance to see. He seems solid and a guy we can probably draft in the mid-1st, like Forte or C3 last year, but does he have the potential for greatness?B Maverick said:I was able to grab Shonn Green of Iowa and James Davis of Clemson. Like what i have seen of Green. 100 yards every game this season against decent talent.
I came away with the impression that he's fast & strong, runs through arm tackles and away from safeties & LBs. I didn't see the balance after contact or the shifty moves needed for someone to be successful in the NFL unless he gets even stronger and better at breaking tackles. I think Turner has more speed & lateral movement. Green also seems to over-commit to body lean. He's very effective at bouncing off high tackles, but I don't think he gets to bowl NFL defenders like that. I would love to see him to Jacksonville in the 2nd if Taylor is released. He & Drew would have LBs knees weak by the 3rd quarter. Would make Tennessees running game pale in comparison. I do have him as a 1st round FFB pick. But I don't have him in the top 6 & don't like any of the RBs as much as the WRs if you're talking PPR. Definitely like Wells better, but not by a whole lot. Situation will have a lot to do with where I rank this guy, as with most backs in this class. I just don't see feature back in any of these guys. I don't think any of these guys could hold Ray Rice's jock... or Flash's, or McFadden's, or Stewart's. Jury is still out on Mendenhall & Felix thanks to injury.Everytime i see him i've been impressed by how he keeps his balance after big contact. I have also been impressed by his shiftiness for a big man, like EBF brings up he has fluid hips that he uses during jukes similar to Michael Turner. The big knock i have on Greene is that his speed is not as good. I got a feeling his 40 time won't be very good and that could cause him to drop in the draft.

Portis, Clinton RB 5-11 221That is what the nfl.com and cbs list Portis at now. I would guess that, as a pro, Moreno will bulk up to a similar weight. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy and his heart, but it is his missing top speed gear which will keep him from being a special NFL back.I have no idea how accurate this is, but Portis is listed at 5-11 / 206 and 5-11 212 while Moreno is listed at 5-11 / 207, 5-11 208 and 5-11 / 208Portis is a bigger version of Moreno, those 20 lbs make all the difference in the world at the next level as their games are quite similar. What was Portis's 40 time?
