NFL Draft Files
Matthew Golden is a highlight machine.
His draft stock has exploded, averaging 95 yards per game in the last 6 games.
He displays awesome burst, speed, and body control as a route runner and pass catcher. Creates easy separation.
He will likely be a day 2 pick in April.

Just finished studying Texas WR Matthew Golden. He could easily be the top WR in this draft class.x.com

Cool thing about Golden is he's comfortable lining up inside or outside. Texas used him split wide right the most--especially after Bond went down--but he took over 150 snaps from the slot too. Speaks to his versatility and ability to understand different asks
Great comparison, this guy is what Bond was supposed to be (and would have been?) had he been healthy.Unlike Bond, this kid makes plays and stands out on the field
Agreed, definitely seems like a brutal class at the position. I didn’t realize Golden was getting that kind of love. A little disappointing as I thought he would be a great value in dynasty drafts. Guy seems like a baller.Dane Bruglers two round mock today had him going #40 overall to the Saints as what would have been WR4(not counting Hunter). I believe he had 7 WR's in total in his first two round, and three of those were bottom of the second round.
What a stinky year for WR's.
Also Golden's teammate Bond was not in Brugler's top two rounds and he tweeted out something the other day about him having Kadarius Toney vibes.

In a class that lacks speed, Texas WR Matthew Golden is vying for the top deep threat in the class. #BuildingTheBoard
Positives
Plus deep speed and ball tracking ability. Routinely gets behind the defense.
Excellent on in-breakers and crossers. Especially against off coverage.
Good releases at the LOS to beat press.
Excellent at adjusting his body to the ball to make difficult catches.
Uses speed to create yards after the catch.
Negatives
Noticeably disrupted against contact and jams when he can't separate cleanly.
Only one year of top end production.
There isn't an elite trait that pops out on his tape.
Stop start is not as clean as you would like. Out breakers, curls, comebacks, etc. are his worst routes.

My Take on Matthew Golden:
The next big thing at WR.
[A Thread…]
1. Elite Route-Running Ability:
Golden is a natural separator with a savvy ability to run routes. He’s the perfect balance of smooth, twitchy, and powerful.
It reminds me of Stefon Diggs …![]()
2. Strength at the Catch-Point:
Golden has an incredible ability to time & track downfield catches. His ability to extend, reach, and pluck is textbook.
*61.1% Contested-Catch success rate in 2024* …
3. Vertical Explosiveness + YAC:
Whether as a vertical stretcher or after the catch, Golden is always a threat. He has a great catch-to-attack mentality and can truly burn guys downfield.
Respectable 5.6 Career YAC/REC + home-run ability.
4. A Stylistic Comparison:
From a relative size & play-style standpoint, Golden has showed me shades of:
Percy Harvin
Stefon Diggs
DJ Moore
5. Conclusion:
Golden’s gotten some love, but his stock is still underrated due to bad QB play + some lingering injuries.
Within a few years, I think Golden will develop into one of the better WRs in the NFL
Currently @scoutdnfl’s non-Travis WR1 & 14th ranked prospect …
I pray he goes in the second round, he is my favorite receiver in this class.Golden is yet another guy helping make my case that people are way more down on this WR class than they should be. Even if he's a round 2 pick instead of round 1, hit rates there are still good for WR and there are some solid landing spots. Like him going at 38 to the Pats catching balls from Drake Maye would probably be enough to make him a target for me at the end of round 1 of rookie drafts.
I still got a soft spot for Egbuka haha. But I could see having Golden right after. Not that I hate Tet or Burden; but they all kind of have a couple question marks to them that keeps them relatively even at the top for me. Harris, Royals, Higgins and Bech are probably my tier 1B below those 4 for now until we get combine info. And landing spots will probably shake things up again/even more.I pray he goes in the second round, he is my favorite receiver in this class.Golden is yet another guy helping make my case that people are way more down on this WR class than they should be. Yeah, it will be interesting to see how the receivers shake out in the draft. I like but do not love Tet and Egbuka, but currently have Burden over both. Not a fan of Harris at all, Higgins is interesting along with Bech. Might be the closest ranking of the top ten receivers in a draft class that I can remember. I just have loved what I saw from Golden this year, whereas I currently have more questions about the others. Early in the process…I still got a soft spot for Egbuka haha. It's sad, but I've watched enough Texas WRs over the last two years to know that the analytics likely won't match the film because of Quinn Ewers...
Assuming before turning it on that Matthew Golden is better than his analytics say he is. Can't wait to find out.

Regardless of 40, the guy just makes plays. I thought he would be a 4.4-4.5 guy, this probably rockets his stock in FF and NFL. I am not happy as I was hoping he would lingering around the end of the first in rookie drafts. Not any longer….Damn you Golden!!
He was already moving up WR ranks, and now this.
I was already very high on him since he's easily a top 3 route runner in my opinion. The way he explodes out of his breaks is something.Regardless of 40, the guy just makes plays. Feel like he was before the combine, but its a lock now. Could have worked his way into the teens. On the flip side, I think Bond might be looking like a day 3 guy now.

4.39 isn't a great time for him. I think being in the 4.2 range was already being counted in his stock, which was 3rd round or so going in.On the flip side, I think Bond might be looking like a day 3 guy now.
Why? Bond ran a 4.39 and hit 24 MPH on the tracker. He blew everybody away with that MPH.

Both Daniel Jeremiah and Todd McShay now have Matthew Golden over Tet McMillan
interesting!

Matthew Golden put the nation on notice with a 4.29 yard 40 yard dash…
But how’s the tape? Well…
elite separator
elite burst and body control
nimble with no wasted movement
release and route stem nuance
has cleaned up drops
Stefon Diggs typa player.
Golden’s stock is definitely trending in the right direction, but I would not consider him above Tet.
Golden has never caught 60 passes in a season, never reached 1,000 yards receiving, and never reached double digit TDs in a season. I am curious how many examples there are of receivers with similar college productivity who went on to excel in the NFL.

I want to say Jalen Reagor but I'm waiting for the Philly fans to show up.

Get this man a QB who can throw with anticipation and he will feast
Matthew Golden - always a threat to blow-by
Production metrics aren't pretty for Matthew Golden, which has become a trend for Texas wide receivers.
He's a bet on a skill set.
