I guess my take on sports announcers in general is simple. Are they unbiased, for the most part? And, do they add some value to the broadcast, in terms of their knowledge? Collinsworth checks both boxes for me. Most do. I think Tirico is great, as I have great respect for guys who can do multiple sports well. Guys like Bob Costas, Kevin Harlan, Ted Robinson, etc., in my opinion, are/were the best at their craft. Not only knowledgeable, but versatile, and they can make any sports broadcast (for the most part) interesting.
That said, there are some that don't check both boxes. Matt Millen and Randy Cross were two guys that come to mind who simply couldn't hide the fact that they were pulling for one team or another. And, Dennis Miller, during his stint on MNF, was somebody who added zero value in terms of his football knowledge. Funny guy, maybe. Football expertise, not so much.
