This oddity crossed my mind....

What if the Colts really don't want to win this week? What if they stand to benefit if the Titans win?

Think about it. The Titans win and become the #6 seed. If they then take out either Pittsburgh or San Diego, they might do the dirty work of hitting the Patriots next. Either they pull an upset or they might beat up the Patriots. If the Titans do the unthinkable, then Indy gets a repeat of this week in 21 days for the AFC Championship.

Thoughts?

I thought this thread was going to be about whether Colts fans wanted to see Strahan sack Brady ala LT1/Joe Theisman on the 3rd play of tonight's game.

You've got to figure the Colts starters come out early, for the reasons you've mentioned (Titans beat up on Steelers and possibly the Patriots). This serves the Colts well.

I dont understand. It doesnt matter what happens, Indy isnt gonna have to play NE until the AFC championship. If i were a colts fan, i would rather San Diego or Pitt to play NE then Tenn.

Why do you think the Titans would do a better job of beating up on the Pats than the Steelers or Chargers? Maybe the Colts are hoping the Steelers play the Pats and they pull another "Van Oelhoffen" -- this time on Brady...

I'm just thinking that they may prefer to have a hotter team come in than two teams that seem to be backing their way into the playoffs. If the Titans get hot, they could do damage all the way until the AFC Championship. Pittsburgh and Cleveland are both struggling lately.Plus, the Colts may have a hidden psychological advantage in knowing that they didn't play their "A Game" vs. TEN this week when they meet again.

Of the three, Tenn has the best coach and the most physical D line. That's why Colts fans should want to see Tenn vs NE.

Indy homer, here. I agree that the Colts likely prefer Tenn in the playoffs. A bit of pride having 3 division teams in, as well. If Haynesworth is healthy and bottling up Maroney, Tenn would be able to complete focus on Patriots passing game, they could have a chance. VY knows how to win big games.

That being said, the Colts (and Dungy) will never give anything less than their best. They've stuck in subs all over the place this year, and I believe they may have the best depth in the league based on how well they've done, and all the experience these guys have gotten. I think the subs will play their hearts out, knowing they may be earning playoff time in a couple of weeks.

I thought your thread might be about the Patriots game tonight. As much as I'd like to see NE lose, I think the Colts would prefer to beat an undefeated Patriots team in the AFC Chamiponship, FWIW.

Good point. That was enough to convince me.

It doesn't really matter to me. IF the Colts and Pats get to play, the Colts will have to take care of business themselves. The Patriots and Colts will both be getting everyone's best as they always do.

This is a non-issue to me.

Why wouldn't the Colts want the best 6 seed possible? In which case they want the Browns to make the 'offs, not the Titans.

Okay, buy you are predicating this all on "IF the Titans get hot," which they are not right now, and winning over a Colts team that will likely rest starters sure isn't going to get them going too much. And they looked like hell in beating the Jets 10-6 at home last week.

And let's face it, the Titans offense would get eaten alive in a playoff game by the Patriots. Sure, given the Titans physical style of play, they might be able to beat the Patriots up a bit, but does anyone really think the Titans would have a prayer of winning in Foxboro in January?

That's a great question. So would you prefer Cleveland or Tennessee at Foxboro?Cleveland has a better passing game and TE, whereas the Titans have the more mobile QB.Both primary backs are between-the-tackles style runners (LenDale / Jamal) so that's a wash.I also think that the TEN defense, ST and coach are better than Cleveland. I think TEN is more dangerous if they get into the postseason.

I agree. Both SD and Pitt have a better chance in beating NE than Tenn does.

I think Bill and his coaching staff will look at an inexperienced 1st year starter on one hand and a raw 2nd year starter who regressed mightily this year and lick their chops at the prospect of their 17th win coming against either.
