COLTS @ STEELERS - Game Thread (1 Viewer)

The Indianapolis Colts go toe to toe with the Pittsburgh Steelers tonight on Sunday Night Football, giving us another long look at rookie quarterback Andrew Luck. We also get another look at the Steelers’ running backs as they try to fill-in for injured backs Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman. That and more will be on full display for then nation to see tonight. Here are my top five things to watch for in tonight’s NFL preseason action:1. Andrew Luck, Part DeuxLuck looked plenty ready to say good-bye to the Peyton Manning era in his preseason debut last week. He went 10-of-16 for two touchdowns and looked comfortable in the pocket. But what happens against a nasty Steelers defense? I think he’ll be cool and calm again and shock some people, but this is still a tough test. Monitor who his favorite weapons are in this one for fantasy purposes, and watch closely to see if you can start bumping him up your fantasy rankings even more.2. More Austin CollieCollie is campaigning to be the true number two receiver opposite of Reggie Wayne this year, rather than just a slot receiver. He’s an underrated talent that can easily make this transition, and has already shown he’s capable of getting it done. I’d like to see a couple nice plays out of him tonight against tougher competition. He scored a touchdown last week and has reportedly had a great rapport with Luck all summer.3. Steelers Running BacksRashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman are both out for this game. Mendy probably won’t be back until week four or five, although he is no longer eligible for the PUP list after being activated from the active/PUP list already. Redman, on the other hand, may not even play in the preseason, and is nursing a groin injury. That means we get a long look at the electric Chris Rainey and Jonathan Dwyer. Dwyer has a little more explosiveness than Redman, but is still a pretty straight-line runner. Rainey isn’t your typical running back and probably is better suited to play receiver, but he’s just so explosive that you know the Steelers will do what they can to get him on the field. He’ll be fun to watch again tonight after a great preseason debut last week.4. Coby Fleener and the Offensive RooksFleener caught one pass for five yards in his preseason debut, so every Colts fan wants to see a lot more out of him tonight. He was teammates with Luck at Stanford, so it would be awfully encouraging if we saw some nice chemistry between the two on an NFL field. Fleener definitely has the talent to be an impact rookie in 2012, but we still haven’t seen it in live action. Fellow tight end Dwayne Allen is the more balanced option, but he’s equally impressive as a pass-catcher, and is an unlikely solid athlete with the ball in his hands. He could actually pass up Fleener as the top tight end in Indy, so it will be interesting to monitor his development and usage. Rookie wide receiver T.Y. Hilton is another guy I want to watch. He’s a small but explosive receiver who could carve out a nice role in the offense if he shows progress and veteran Donnie Avery failes to impress. Keep an eye on all of these rooks. This is a very young but very exciting Colts offense we’re watching.5. Steelers and Colts Defensive ConcernsJames Harrison is out with a bum knee, although the Steelers remain optimistic he’ll be ready for week one. He might not be, however, so it’s extremely important to see what the team has in backups Chris Carter and Morrty Ivy, while Jason Worilds is easily the top candidate to replace him in the starting lineup if he’s out for long. Keep an eye on all three of those guys tonight. For the Colts, they continue to try to find the best fits for their transition to a 3-4 defensive scheme. I still don’t think they have the right players to pull it off, so keep monitoring Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis on the outsides as linebackers, as well as their defensive line as a whole. Jerry Hughes is another outside linebacker to watch, as he tries to carve out a role in the pass-rush rotation.

Luck's first test against a defense with a pulse. Should be fun! :football:
I'd be surprised if he doesn't do well since Pittsburgh will be playing preseason defense.
I agree with this. & The media will have a hay day with this.
I guess Luck is in a lose-lose situation then.If he plays poorly, he crapped the bed against a "real" defense. If he plays well, the Steelers weren't really trying.

After the last Colts preseason game two of my sleeper picks have climbed up the mock boards....D Brown and Reggie "not dead yet" Wayne.

I always thought the Steelers were neck and neck with the Packers for best fan base.

This stadium is half-empty. The Packers sold out Lambeau for an intrasquad scrimmage.

Case closed.

1st and 10 - Luck incomplete to Wayne. Nothing there on the play, threw it away.

2nd and 10 - Short right to Allen for 5. Briefly looked deep.

3rd and 5 - Luck incomplete to Brown. Punt.

steelers homer here and i am not going to challenge you on this. but as a season ticket holder, i am one of the lucky few who were able to sell a pair for full price and save my money for more important things (like beer). we're not into going to meaningless games so i suppose many fans are still in the parking lot. i'll be glad to hand the crown to packers fans--they can knock themselves out at all of the preseason worthlessness.

Great TD, but these players need to stop flipping into the endzone. Trying to make the highlight reel like that Bengals player did.

Anyone else catch that pic of Curtis Painter that scrolled by when they were showing the Colts that had left? Looked like he should have worn number 420.

lol @ "...completed catch..."

these refs are fumbling with calls like a freshman with his first bra-strap.

Looked like Collie took a shot to the head. Walked off the field. Could mean nothing, but it did look like he was dazed
