COLUMBUS, OH > Where to stay/dine/drink in this fine city? (1 Viewer)

Help! First time to Columbus...

Flying in late Feb for a couple nights for business. Flying in Thursday morning. I've got a function up north near Worthington (South of 270 off High Street) all day Friday.  Flying out Saturday afternoon.

1) Where should I stay? I Prefer to stay a reasonably short ride to the meeting area if there's any decent areas there. If there is a great bar/entertainment district or two that are better options, I don't mind the longer Uber ride to the meeting.

2) Is Uber prevalent?

3) Suggested Dining / Entertainment / Drinking options?

Anything else I should know about Columbus? TIA :banned:

Quick searching seem to indicate campus/Clintonville area or possibly Short North as looking like good options?

Short North looks to be 8-10mi south of my meeting on High Street. With that looking like a pretty major artery, guessing rush hour sucks on that stretch?
LODGING OPTION: Short North Guesthouse

Campus/Clintonville look to be a good bit closer, but are there solid options there? I'm a bit older but can usually blend in reasonably well in college-ish scenes.
LODGING OPTION: Hamption Inn University Area

Looks like there are a ton of hotels up off High St just north of 270 near my meeting, however that seems far from the city... is there anything good going on up there?

Also look to be some options downtown near Capitol Square... but it looks like a hike to get up to worthington (not the end of the world if it's worth it).

I've only been a few times. Short North is a pretty cool drinking/dining district.  If you're 8-10 miles north of there, does that put you out by the 270 bypass?

Nearer to you on High Street is Bob's Bar - aka "The Cultural Hub of the Midwest".  Lots of beers, no food but you can carry in Shawarma from the Pita Hut Grille next door.

Last time I was there I looked for a place I could get fried oysters and only found one. It was located in one of those old flatiron buildings. It was pretty good.

Entertainment if you like golf they have the Jack Nicklaus museum. They also have nhl hockey if you're into that.

You could wear Clemson stuff too and they'll prob treat you like a king everywhere you go.

Definitely not doing anything cultural like museums or anything like that. likely will just find a bar/restaurant or cluster of bars/restaurants on Thursday and Friday nights.

What time is last call on Friday nights? Any decent late night scenes? Flight isn't till Saturday afternoon. :banned:

Has to be some good bar scenes around the university...

I also forgot they have horse racing with a casino I think about 10-15 minutes south of town off US-23

If you are a burger guy, make your way to Thurman's Cafe in the German Village area.  Get the Thurmanator if you are hungry and think you are man enough to handle it...

I live here.  Maybe we can get drinks when you're in town.

You'll want to hit short north/arena district for food and drink.

last call is at 2a

uber is prevalent.  i wouldn't ride in cabs for free now.

if you stay in short north/downtown it will be a ~20 minute ride to Worthington.

I live in the short north so definitely let me know if you end up in that area.

If you stay at 270 and Worthington this place is fun.  There are also a lot of restaurants around there (winking lizard, fish market, steak places, etc.), but its not really a "bar scene"...it is really a business park that caters to out of towner's.

But, as mentioned, the short north is where to go for bar hopping and debauchery.

I didn't make it but my buddies had a great time at Level One last month. Unexpected in that area, but probably a good option on a work night.

I've only been once, but free old school games and craft beer is a great combo.  They also have/had Mario kart on projectors

The Short North and German Village.  If out right by Ohio State's campus, there are a couple of interesting places on Lane Avenue west of the campus, but that may be an older crowd that you're not into.

Booked up in Worthington.. wasn't much in Short North area that I could find that seemed worth it. Will just Uber down at night. Thanks for the feedback guys

Was doing some research earlier for a project - Columbus is the 15th biggest city in America, I did not know that.

Over 800k people, :mindblown:

I was just there over the weekend visiting my dad. We went to a tapas restaurant in German Village called Barcelona. I highly recommend it.

For a city as big as it is I find it a bit lacking in cool stuff to do. I'll probably end up taking my daughter to COSI when she's a little older. I've heard some good things about it. Their zoo is pretty good too.
