In terms of counting, I have no idea why any casino hasn't made a table where counting is tolerated, but simply crippled the ruleset. I would have thought that offering 6 deck with 3/2 blackjack and you can count, but:

a) you need to declare your standard bet at the start of a session
b) you are not permitted to go more than 4x that bet as a standard sizing
c) you can only play one box at a time (to mess with the hourly)
d) if anyone bets more than their standard for a 10 hand run, we reshuffle the deck

In Atlantic City, they're not allowed to bar you for counting, so if they figure out that someone is doing it, they just flat-bet them. No pro is going to play if they can't vary their bet spread as they can't make any real money doing it. It's really as simple as that, but Vegas will just back you off or tell you to get lost.

I’ll be there 6/5-6/8 before heading to Reno/Tahoe. Staying wayyyy south on the Strip. South of the airport, but oh so close to rental car return. Nothing fancy this trip. Just gonna spend some time with my sister, see Ministry (With Sympathy tour), and chill in the crazy heat. Should be a nice break from Florida

The Vegas airport might be the worst airport experience in the country. It needs to be twice the size it is, at least the terminal Im in. The wait for a table at the only restaurant is 1 hour and who has that long to wait before their flight?

It's a long way from the nicest airport I've been to, but I've found it to be remarkably efficient. 95% of the time, I can get there an hour before my flight takes off and drop my bag, go through security (pre check) and be at my gate with time to spare before boarding. Can't do that at Newark, Atlanta, Orlando, etc. I don't really know what it's like hanging out and dining there though, have never once done that in at least 50-100 trips. I'm sure there a lot of better airports to be in if you've got time to kill and want to get dinner or drinks.

Long Vegas post ahead...

Just got back from a long weekend-plus in Vegas. A little bit of a different experience since I was there with my kids and their mom for my daughter's volleyball club tournament.

Stayed at Paris. Rooms were not bad, nothing special. Unlike where I usually crash (Luxor), the bartenders didn't comp drinks if you were playing video poker. Well, they said they would but I'd have to "max bet". I've turned into a cheapskate and really only like to play 25-cent hands  ... so I just paid for a few beers. We had some vodka & mixers in our room so I had "road sodas". Funny story on that, actually.... on Saturday night we went out with the coaches and a couple "team moms". I made myself a road soda and before we left our room, I noticed the drink was a little strong so I poured a a half-filled water bottle into the drink and left for dinner. I noticed it was still strong, but whatever. Drank that bad boy and a couple of stiff drinks at a speakeasy at the Horseshoe, and man I was slammed. Turns out that "half bottle of water" was actually.... vodka. My wife had poured some vodka into an empty water bottle to take out for the night. Oops. I ended up putting a $20 into a video poker machine thinking it was a 25-cent version but it was apparently a $1 machine. Told myself I'd play 3 hands and then just cash it out. Ended up pulling 4 queens on the first hand, so cashed out up $50!

Saturday and Sunday days were nothing but volleyball at the convention center. Wild.

Most people left on Monday after our only game, but we ended up shifting over to the ghetto-*** Circus Circus. My MIL was staying there and wife got us a room for $19  That place is an absolute dump that smells of marijuana. Spent some time at the ghetto-*** pool, at at the Peppermill across the street and then played more quarter video poker. And guess what... hit quads on my first hand for the second time (this time 4s). Had a few (free) beers at the bar, watched some hoops and went to bed.

My buddy who was also in town for the tournament said traffic back to LA on Monday was insane. Glad we stayed the extra night. Got home in a quick 4 hours yesterday. Back to work today and now packing for 4 days in Santa Barbara for a college/fraternity reunion. Whew.
