In terms of counting, I have no idea why any casino hasn't made a table where counting is tolerated, but simply crippled the ruleset. I would have thought that offering 6 deck with 3/2 blackjack and you can count, but:

a) you need to declare your standard bet at the start of a session
b) you are not permitted to go more than 4x that bet as a standard sizing
c) you can only play one box at a time (to mess with the hourly)
d) if anyone bets more than their standard for a 10 hand run, we reshuffle the deck

In Atlantic City, they're not allowed to bar you for counting, so if they figure out that someone is doing it, they just flat-bet them. No pro is going to play if they can't vary their bet spread as they can't make any real money doing it. It's really as simple as that, but Vegas will just back you off or tell you to get lost.

I’ll be there 6/5-6/8 before heading to Reno/Tahoe. Staying wayyyy south on the Strip. South of the airport, but oh so close to rental car return. Nothing fancy this trip. Just gonna spend some time with my sister, see Ministry (With Sympathy tour), and chill in the crazy heat. Should be a nice break from Florida

The Vegas airport might be the worst airport experience in the country. It needs to be twice the size it is, at least the terminal Im in. The wait for a table at the only restaurant is 1 hour and who has that long to wait before their flight?

It's a long way from the nicest airport I've been to, but I've found it to be remarkably efficient. 95% of the time, I can get there an hour before my flight takes off and drop my bag, go through security (pre check) and be at my gate with time to spare before boarding. Can't do that at Newark, Atlanta, Orlando, etc. I don't really know what it's like hanging out and dining there though, have never once done that in at least 50-100 trips. I'm sure there a lot of better airports to be in if you've got time to kill and want to get dinner or drinks.

Long Vegas post ahead...

Just got back from a long weekend-plus in Vegas. A little bit of a different experience since I was there with my kids and their mom for my daughter's volleyball club tournament.

Stayed at Paris. Rooms were not bad, nothing special. Unlike where I usually crash (Luxor), the bartenders didn't comp drinks if you were playing video poker. Well, they said they would but I'd have to "max bet". I've turned into a cheapskate and really only like to play 25-cent hands  ... so I just paid for a few beers. We had some vodka & mixers in our room so I had "road sodas". Funny story on that, actually.... on Saturday night we went out with the coaches and a couple "team moms". I made myself a road soda and before we left our room, I noticed the drink was a little strong so I poured a a half-filled water bottle into the drink and left for dinner. I noticed it was still strong, but whatever. Drank that bad boy and a couple of stiff drinks at a speakeasy at the Horseshoe, and man I was slammed. Turns out that "half bottle of water" was actually.... vodka. My wife had poured some vodka into an empty water bottle to take out for the night. Oops. I ended up putting a $20 into a video poker machine thinking it was a 25-cent version but it was apparently a $1 machine. Told myself I'd play 3 hands and then just cash it out. Ended up pulling 4 queens on the first hand, so cashed out up $50!

Saturday and Sunday days were nothing but volleyball at the convention center. Wild.

Most people left on Monday after our only game, but we ended up shifting over to the ghetto-*** Circus Circus. My MIL was staying there and wife got us a room for $19  That place is an absolute dump that smells of marijuana. Spent some time at the ghetto-*** pool, at at the Peppermill across the street and then played more quarter video poker. And guess what... hit quads on my first hand for the second time (this time 4s). Had a few (free) beers at the bar, watched some hoops and went to bed.

My buddy who was also in town for the tournament said traffic back to LA on Monday was insane. Glad we stayed the extra night. Got home in a quick 4 hours yesterday. Back to work today and now packing for 4 days in Santa Barbara for a college/fraternity reunion. Whew.

In Vegas now for a conference. I have tonight open so I was looking for a place to go for dinner. I don't want to go out with any co-workers tonight. I'll see them enough this week as I'm here through Friday and have other dinners setup so I'm going to solo it.

I'm staying at Caesar's, so I'm taking recommendations for any place within walking distance, i.e., the strip, that has a good vibe, good food, and a bar where I can order off the full menu. If nothing good comes up, I may head down to Park MGM and go to Best Friend (😋Kimchi Fried Rice), as it's always a good standby for me.

I went to Nobu here at Caesar's last night (shared the black Black Miso Cod, Yellowtail Jalapeno Sashimi, Bigeye Tuna Tataki, and Rock Shrimp Tempura with the table) and will go again on Wednesday as we are hosting some clients. I am not usually a seafood eater, so I don't need that tonight again. Also, I am avoiding red meat, so I am not looking for a steak place.

What you got?

EDIT

I'll add a few restaurants that piqued my interest via Google and Reddit while I'm waiting. Let me know if you have been to them:

1. Gjelina at the Venetian
2. Mother Wolf at Fountainbleu - (Not walking distance)
3. Momofuku at Cosmo - Have been there before but it's a favorite
4. NoMad Library at Monte Carlo - on several lists of "good restaurants for solo diners"
5. Carbone at Aria - Aware of it but have never been there - Also recommended for solo diners
6. Bavette's at ParkMGM - Also on many lists for solo travellers but probably doesn't make sense if I'm not eating steak (although I would LOVE a bone-in ribeye...)

I haven't been, but seems like a good time for Carbone IMO.

Mother Wolf is great. Nomad Library decent as well. Your Monte Carlo reference made me chuckle….hasn’t been that in a long time but I still sort of think of it as that too….

Ended up at Carbone last night. Hadn't been there before. It was stupid expensive, about $200 with tip.

2 glasses of Nebbiolo Musso @ $33.00 each
1 Caprese salad @ $29.00
1 Chicken Massimo @ $51.00
1/2 order Spicy Rigatoni @ 19.00

Total $165 + Tax = ~$210

The food was good. I received a complimentary starter that included pickled cauliflower, salami, parmesan cheese, and bread. That was a nice touch.
The Caprese salad was good, but it was made for two people, so I didn't finish it.
The Chicken Massimo was very good also but $51 for barely 1/2 chicken? Nah.
Spicy Rigatoni was decent.

I ended up sitting at the bar even though all of the seats were reserved. I got there around 8:30p on a Sunday night and it was packed. The bartender ended up sliding over one of the reserved signs as the other four spots showed up quickly after I arrived.

Overall, I would give it a solid 7.5. I don't mind overpaying for good food and service, and would have been more disappointed if I weren't on an expense account. Although there's no way I can expense the whole thing. I'll probably end up paying half out of my own pocket.

Yeah, the Carbone in NYC and Vegas both have that in common. Memorable mostly for price.

Was Carbone a good bar to eat at? In your situation, I probably would have done bar at STK at Cosmo, because I know it's buzzy (or was a few years ago). I default to steakhouse bars, especially dining alone.

Yes, it was a good bar to eat at. Bartender was good and it just so happens the guys that sat next to me were chatty also (but not too much). Although I know that there are other things on the menu, I'm trying to avoid steakhouses. I don't have much foodie willpower to avoid red meat so I try to avoid temptation at the advice of my cardiologist.....it's a slippery slope!

Booked airfare for Week 2 last week. Austin>Long Beach>Vegas is suboptimal, but the price was right, especially since it was points. Hotel offers not getting good...yet.

Occupancy rates under 90% make management ask uncomfortable questions of their staff. Currently at 84%. Under 80%, the board starts asking questions. I believe that in about a month, we'll get some solid offers for the fall.

We are going out July 23 and 24th to celebrate our daughter's 21st. Just a quick trip to gamble and have fun--five of us staying at the Cosmo. She wants to do Hells Kitchen on the 24th and we were hoping to do some kind of a show on the 23rd, but it has become apparent we have waited waayy too long to book the good shows and many others are dark those nights. 'O" is 85% booked and what seats are left are in the balcony and on the sides plus still very costly. Sphere seems way overpriced for basically an Imax movie.

Our other daughter is 25 and between the two of our kids they have probably been to Vegas over a dozen times, so Vegas is nothing new to them. My wife complains that all we do is eat when we go to Vegas, but I am wondering if we just go to another fun style restaurant on the 23rd vs a show, but I don't want everyone having to bring a formal outfit for such a short trip. My soon to be 21 year old is not a drinker, but I anticipating that day she will make an exception as she wants us to order a "It is my 21st birthday" sash" so I am keeping that in mind with what to eat for dinner on the 23rd as gourmet food may not be in the cards. Suggestions??

For shows, I think Mad Apple usually has seats available and it's a good show. I liked it better than O but not as much as Love. And as difficult as it is to believe, you'll never go wrong seeing Carrot Top. It's the best show in Vegas. His show is by far the most recommended from online Vegas groups, and they're not wrong. He crushes for people of all ages.

Swingers at Mandalay Bay is a brand new mini golf experience for adults. We had a good time drinking and gambling on our mini golf game.

Better bring your fat wallet if you want to eat or drink in Vegas in 2025. Holy crap the sticker shock from looking at menu prices never ends.

I just bought two 20oz bottles of Pepsi from a Vegas hotel newsstand - $16.

Go see Paranormal.

yeah, it was bad enough when the table mins priced me out of most places. Now I can't even eat or drink without getting robbed.

"But look at all the fancy new buildings! and there's no more people throwing porno flyers at you on the strip!"

My brother is getting married here in August. Me & his friends are trying to plan a bachelor party for him. He's about 8 years younger than me- I've really never partyhardyed with him or his friends like that. But he's a pretty reserved/wholesome guy, so I'm trying to think of stuff a little more lowkey than hookers & blow if that makes sense.

Our family goes all the time and I've been there like 15 times myself. But all I ever do is eat the 1792 at Earl of Sandwich and walk around while everyone else gambles. I kind of hate Las Vegas to be honest. I find it to be an extremely superficial and unfriendly place. But that's probably just me being a hater again. And so I ask you, the resident experts- what activities would you recommend for a bachelor party? We'll be out the night of 8/14 for what it's worth

Just something novel, fun & original if that makes sense. I always liked Fremont St and wanted to check out the Sphere. I appreciate your input!

Omega Mart at Area 15 is what you seek. It's not exactly an escape room, but it ain't exactly a supermarket, either. If it's too novel, the rest of the Area 15 complex has more conventional bars and restaurants.
Actually I did get to do this several years ago, it was very cool. I remember us walking through the freezers and having our little minds blown

Thanks for the suggestion

Flight Club at Venetian. It's darts, but so much better than darts. There are a ton of different games (chutes and ladders is a really fun one) so it's nothing like typical bar darts. I've played in a large group of clearly non-dart players, and everyone had an absolute blast. The decor is that of an upscale pub, and the cocktails and food are really great. Anytime I'm in Vegas with a group I try and get them there. Without exception, everyone has a great time. Bonus is that it's close to the Sphere so it would be easy to hop over after.

If you go to Fremont, Neon Museum (go at night) and the Mob Museum are both fun. Group craps at Downtown Grand, Pizza Rock, Whiskey Liquor Up at Binion's for chicken tenders and people watching.

For something truly novel, consider taking Cartzilla down Las Vegas Boulevard. I've never done it, or considered it really, until a few reviews I read from people I trust. They said it was an absolute blast.

That Cartzilla thing looks hysterical lmao

Thanks a lot!

My suggestion is the Pinball Hall of Fame. I'm not sure of the ages in your group, but I grew up going to arcades in the late 1970s and 1980s, and this place was awesome. It's 25,000 square feet and has 350+ pinball machines (and some classic arcade games like Donkey Kong, Punch Out, Frogger, etc) from the 1950's through the 1990's.

$20 goes a LOOONG way when you're only pumping one or two quarters into the machines.

Some of the non-gambling fun things I did as part of Bachelor Parties was a paintball place out in the desert or renting dune buggies. Did a kayak day excursion on the Colorado or hiking in red rocks (bring water & sunscreen!) Always wanted to go to the gun range place you could shoot like submachine guns and such but that can be pricy these days I imagine (you pay for the ammo you shoot.)

The perfect night. Priceless, actually. Ten days before my birthday. I'll be in San Francisco the next day. Wait, this isn't about me? This is about Vegas? Holy crikey! Well, pardon me for talking about me then. Good luck!

By the way, I think of Vegas exactly like you do for the first moments I'm there. Then I give in and it's a good time. Spend some scrilla and enjoy it. Everybody is there to forget how stupid and artificial we are by celebrating just that!

I spend a lot of time in Vegas and wanted to share some thoughts for those that might drive its' streets.
Be extra careful and very alert if you have to drive in this area. I read recently that Vegas has a "culture of reckless driving". Not sure what that means exactly but I will say I often witness very dangerous driving maneuvers when moving around this town.

Things like excessive speed, tailgating, running red lights. Passing on the freaking shoulder! My last time in Vegas my Uber driver was treating my trip like his own personal Daytona 500, despite my frequent reminders that I was in no hurry. Tell those dudes to take it easy.
