Commish could use some help (1 Viewer)

We are starting a new dynasty league this year. I have found it impossible to get guys together for a 26 round draft. My fix is to have the draft via email. Everyone got a vote, 9 guys said they didnt care if the draft was live or online and 3 others said online was fine.

Now some of the same guys who said they didnt care are pressuring me to just hold the first 6-8 rounds live.

I dont want to do this. Email drafts are fun as well and I want it to be completely fair for everyone. I dont want some people to have to predraft and others to be there discussing. With an email draft, Everyone can take their time thinking things over and they cant complain that they were pressured.

Without being a #####, how can I tell these guys that we are not changing a thing. The draft will remain an email draft with 24 hours between picks. I REALLY dont want to be a #####, I took the year off commishing last year because my attitude was slipping because people like to try to make things difficult. Fresh league, I have a fresh attitude. Please give me your best advice on how it should be handled.

Sometimes as a commish you have to be a ##### in order to get things done. You'll have to show some leadership, make a decision, and drive on. One peice of advice though, if its going to be a 26 round draft done entirely by email with 24 hour time limit between picks, you'd better get the draft started very soon.

1) The first year draft is the most painful, it gets much easier afterwards.2) It's your league, do what you want to do.

3) 24 hours to make a pick will drive you insane, 4 hours tops or you pick the next guy on cbssportslines board (that will motivate them). Did that myself and it was still painful but we got through it w/o pissing anyone off.

2) It's your league, do what you want to do.
 Attitudes like that are what make for a total #### of a commish and an un-fun league. It's not "his" league, it's just as much the other owners' league too.

ALL decisions about a league should be made by a show of hands, majority (of those who vote) wins. I will never understand why any league would do otherwise (and would never join one). At most I could see a commish having the final say on a tie, but that's it.

Just make sure everyone is agreeable. With a 24 hr time limit 4 owners who are simply using the time available to them could drag your draft out to mid November.Granted most picks should never take 24 hrs, but it is their right. Unless of course a ####### commish determines certain owners can't have 24 hrs :)

I have to disagree with this. In one of the 12 team leagues that I am the commissioner for, our rules state this:
The commissioner will be commissioned to act at all times in the best interests of the league and is vested with the following authorities:

· Interpret the rules as he or she sees just and fit, either to the letter or to the spirit.

· Settle all owner and league disputes.

· Update and maintain the league website.

· Inform owners of important dates and events.

· Maintain the league treasury, which includes collecting fees and distributing payouts.

· Implement a voting process for proposed rule changes.

· Find new team ownership.

· Ensure the integrity and fairness of the league is maintained.

An owner may appeal a commissioner’s decision. When, and if, an owner notifies the commissioner that a decision is being appealed, the league will be notified, the positions will be stated, and a vote of the owners will be taken. At least 8 owners must submit a vote, and it will take a majority of votes to overturn a commissioner’s decision.
cdwood was right- sometimes you have to put your foot down. Having a "majority rules" vote on every little thing is not only impractical during the course of the season (it takes too long to cull the votes), but it pretty much undermines the basic need for a commissioner in the first place. I personally wouldn't even want to be in a league where every single decision is made by a majority rule vote. It would take too long to get anything done. You have to trust your commissioner to act in the best interest of the league and that he will act fairly in resolving issues.

24 hours is too long. How many days (24 hours) til the season starts? You'll still be in round 5 or somesuch.

I'd write an email to all that as a whole(stress that) they're not being agreeable and they gotta compromise. Please email back with how you'd like to draft. Then wait for responses.

If it's slow draft, I'd use MFL's setup. Tell everyone to check the box that emails them the picks when they're made and tell them so often to predraft it's borderring spamming them. You've gotta keep in mind that you're gonna have to hustle. Round 18 on will be slow

Keep in mind you do an initial dynasty draft ONCE for the league.

Taking time isn't so bad.

I'd go with a 12-hour clock (with some shutdown overnight, say 6 hours) because 12 people have things to do during 3-4 weeks other than draft.

Also, this allows for trade talks as drafts roll on.

It should be about a month to complete, hopefully less.

I agree MFL is a great setup for this.

Even with the clock, EMPHASIZE that timely picks are encouraged. Still, 12 people will represent 12 different levels of interest and participation.

Start the draft say July 15-20 and get it rolling. 12-hour clock and if you miss it you get skipped, and your clock may even shrink going forward (say 8, then 4, then 2....).

MFL allows pre-drafting so that also helps.
