Commish scheduling question (1 Viewer)

I'm taking over as commish in a 14 team league with two divisions playing the regular season weeks 1-13. I'd like to schedule divisional doubleheaders the first 3 weeks and the last 3 weeks of the our regular season. Has anyone done this before or is there a website that helps with funky scheduling like this? I expect that this will take quite a bit of time putting this schedule together from scratch. Any assistance is appreciated.

I did something similar with a 12 team, 3 division league, though we had division triple headers and out of division double headers, then division triple headers.I was able to do the schedule reasonably easy using FFLM, the league management app from MFL that you can download and run locally. It has a lot of options for moving around weeks, inverting, etc. I think I maybe exported and went to Excel and did an edit as well that would be easier there, then imported back into the MFL website.

I tried double-headers once in the opening week of the NFL season. I personally thought it was cool (and doing this will more closely align win-loss records with total points, which is arguably a better reflection of the best teams in a given league) but most of my league whined about being overwhelmed by the live scoring on game day. Too much info to process. But maybe your league's experience will be different.

I also favor division matchups exclusively at the beginning and end of the fantasy season, because that's where most of the non-bye-week action occurs. Unfortunately this year the NFL has spread the bye weeks out to an additional week (11) so there are only 5 non-bye-weeks to work with this year instead of the traditional 6.

Good luck!

I have never understood why folks want some weeks to count fro twice as much as other weeks. Why should a team that does well weeks 1/2/3/12/13/14 do better than a team that did well weeks 4/5/6/7/8/9?

While I don't like doubleheaders to begin with and thats my opinion, I would think anyone who does math would see the point above and thus either go without doubleheaders or use them every week.

I agree. I never understood double-headers. If one of your best players goes down during a double header week, you run a great risk of losing two games instead of one before having an opportunity to address the issue.

The "uneven number of games on different weeks" thing is the biggest objection I got with such a schedule. But there's really no reason it has to be that way. You can have a double header every week.

We eventually went to a triple header every week because it fit our format so well. Each week you play 1 of your 3 division opponents and 1 team from each of the 2 other divisions. So every 3 weeks you've played your entire division, and play them 4 times in all in 12 weeks. Every 4 weeks you've played each out of division opponent, so play every out of division team 3 teams in 12 weeks.

Little more difficult with 14 team league, especially if you want more games against in division than out. If that doesn't matter, just have a double header every week for 13 weeks.
