Commissioner Help Needed (1 Viewer)

Here is the situation:

Team A is in 2nd place, one game out of 1st, and 2 games ahead of 3 teams in 3rd. Top 3 paid out.

Team B is tied for last and going nowhere.

Team A and Team B play this week (not friends so no collusion).

Team B doesn't submit his lineup so he has Owen Daniels on Bye at TE, with Shockey on the bench.

Team A beats Team B, but if Shockey would've been in the lineup then Team B would've upset the 2nd place Team A???

What should a commissioner do, if anything?

We slap the first 2 offences with a $10 fine, 3rd time ur out of the league - NO ??s asked!!

But that is in our constitution.

If he isn't going to set his lineup, it is not fair to the rest of teams in the league that don't get a freebe if they don't play him, so maybe take over his lineup and boot him.

Me and 2 other commishs in my league routinely look at everyones roster submissions prior to game time and make phonecalls if needed. But if it is someone that is lazy or out of it and routinely does it, then they are OUT.

Unless your league rules specifically state something otherwise- you do absolutely nothing... agreed.

It's unfortunate for the other team involved and we have a monetary and point penalty for such an offense in our league- but you can't change or create a rule mid-season.

Might you be Team C.... one of the teams in 3rd? Regardless, if there is nothing in the rules, and it wasn't done for EVERY team this season that might have done the same thing... then, do nothing.

I am one of the teams in 3rd, but I don't care either way. Just curious how other leagues handle this situation as this is our 1st year as a bigger money league.I agree with the do nothing, the team has actually volunteered to pay a fine, but we don't have anything in our constitution saying that...but we likely will next year. Thanks guys

I suggest you put something in your league rules for next year. I propose the 1st offense would be a fine, then the 2nd offense would be losing the following year's first round draft pick. That way teams out of the running will at least submit a lineup each week. It's annoying when teams start giving up, especially the ones who tank the season in search of the top draft pick. They are not thinking about the integrity of the league.

Find a new owner for next year.

Do what your league rules say. If they say nothing on the subject, then that's your answer. Next year, check out the "how to avoid problems" thread on good league rules.

 As Commissioner, you can't enforce rules that don't exist. You also can't create policy after the fact.

Dictate a temporary solution now and send it to a vote after the season for coming years.

The league I have commissioned for eight years assumes previous week's roster when none is submitted. UNLESS, there is reason to consider collusion between the owners in play.

My league has a rule against starting players on Byes, or known to be out. As Commish, I override any owner who leaves bye week players in their active lineup & set their lineup.

I do this before the games start, so there is no issue if an after-the-fact change impacting an outcome.

Not to get off topic, but this is one reason that in my league the team with the highest number of points each week gets money. It encourages all owners to take an active role in their team. Even if you are DFL, you can still win money if you have a good week.
