Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (2 Viewers)

Just bought a couple of tickets for tonight's Father John Misty show in LA, backed by the LA Philharmonic Orchestra, for my daughter who goes to school out there. Was out there last weekend for Parents Weekend, would have been awesome to go with her but this is next best thing. She is pumped! I love that she loves some of the same music I do.

It’s ON! My God with COVID turning a corner everyone and their mother is racing to get shows booked. Every day I have 5 new concert announcements in my inbox. Bought Stapleton, Black Crowes and Paul McCartney in last 2 days alone. Now my schedule is getting jammed. Love it!

Tried to get McCartney tix for Oriole Park at Camden Yards.  At a minimum of $200 a piece I'm glad I got shut out.
After watching the Get Back documentary there was no way I’m missing this show. You can always make more money. But how many more times will McCartney be playing near you?

Funny you should mention that.  Our first attempt was as Amex card holders.  We're also Oriole season ticket holders and they had an early pre-sale too, success.  Scored 4 tix and the cost was a little better, $200 all in so it looks like I'm going after all.

Seeing Floppinho play percussion with the Juilliard pre-college Symphony tonight. After learning Timpani for the first time in the last performance, he's been given a bigger Timpani part, as well as snare. knock on wood, they've given the triangle and sand-paper parts to other kids so far.

they're playing

Mazzoli- River Rouge Transformation (contemporary composer- sounds like it will be a bit... contemporary)

Beethoven- Piano Concerto #3 C minor

Florence Price- Symphony #3 C Minor (I've mentioned Floppinho went to a very cool public school for middle school- The Special Music School- the only school in the country with classical music instruction as part of it's core curriculum. in 7th grade his English teacher had the kids write and illustrate a children's book about Florence Price, who had been in relative obscurity and for whom there was very little to no documentation- and importantly, the first black woman composer to have an orchestral piece performed. the book ended up getting legit published and became kind of an international thing- bringing some good publicity to the school and to Price. It's total coincidence that he's getting to play in this... but also probably due partly to that book happening in the first place).

I'll add that C Minor is my favorite key.

Just bought tix to go to the Firefly Festival in September with my 16 year old daughter.  So psyched, this will be her first festival concert ever and the Friday headliner is My Chemical Romance, who we both love.  Lots of other good bands too.

Mostly done, but live stream here if interested. About to play the Price.

These kids are insane.

Just got Cake tickets for this August in Oregon. It's been a while since I've seen them. This one is at a cool outdoor venue.

Well damn. Kinda forgot how great it was to groove with a few thousand people and pass joints around and have a ####### blast.

Say Khruangbin last night and oh my was that wonderful. Laura Lee is so mighty sexy

Should be a good show.  Don't miss Caamp if you're not familiar with their work.   One of my favorite bands.   They are coming out with a new album (1st song got released today and its just ok) so we'll see how that goes.  Gonna see that pairing at least twice this summer.

Kenny Wayne Shepherd tonight at a small venue. One of my favorite bands/guitarists ever
I can't believe he's been around for 25 years.  Great to see someone make it out of Shreveport!

Just grabbed Tenacious D, 3rd row tix in Bridgeport Ct for mid September

last saw them 10 years ago in NYC and had a blast.

Saw Billy Strings the last two nights.  Incredible what this guy has done to make bluegrass more popular.  I've seen a lot of bands jam out songs in my days, and this guy can do it just as well as anyone.  Incredible shows.

So far, I’ve got:

Silk Sonic on May 14

Joe Jackson on June 9

Roger Waters on October 1

All here in Vegas.   Good to be back….

Have a pretty big run coming up:

Paul McCartney May 13th

Chris Stapleton, Dwight Yoakam and Mike Campbell and Dirty Knobs on June 11th

Santana and Earth Wind and Fire on June 18th

Kenny Chesney, Dan and Shay, Old Dominion and Carly Pearce July 23rd

Black Crowes July 24th

Bonnie Raitt Sept 22nd

Going to book more for sure.  Hoping to get to Red Rocks for either Tedeschi Trucks Band or Thomas Rhett

Just saw Graham Nash last week in Durham. He was phenomenal. 80 years old, and he sounded almost exactly like he did 50 years ago. Great, great show.

Just got back from Gang of Four.  It was a completely different band from the last time I saw them.

Singer Jon King revived the group after the death of Andy Gill who'd been touring his version of Go4 for years with a different singer. King got the band's original drummer Hugo Burnham and second bassist Sara Lee to sign on. I liked this band much better--King is still an incredible frontman.

Couldn't get to Red Rocks but just booked Tedeschi Trucks (Los Lobos opening) outdoors at the Greek Aug 19th.  Love that band

Finally getting to see Steve Hackett next week, rescheduled from 2020. Playing Selling England by the Pound and Seconds Out. Got to see him in 2019 doing SEBTP and it was phenomenal. Can't wait to see him again.

Then a couple of other prog shows - The Pineapple Thief, Riverside, and Primus to get me through the Spring.

Just bought tickets to take my 17 year old to see Phoebe Bridgers in Phoenix on April 13th. Will be my first show since Covid. A warm up for Pearl Jam in May in Glendale.

Thinking of buying tickets for AIC, Breaking Benjamin, and Bush on September 10 in Phoenix.

We get some interesting concert tweaks up here (IMO), I'm sure some people saw that Interpol and Spoon are co-headlining a summer tour. Obviously I grabbed tickets, but the Toronto show also includes Metric... and Metric are the headliners.

I love all three of those bands but it's a little strange for me to see Metric at the top of that lineup but I guess that's what being local heroes earns you. Bartees Strange opens up the night here rather than The Goon Sax on the US tour, which is another win IMO.

-----

on a less fun note, both the PUP (Tuesday) and Blue Rodeo (tonight) concerts I had scheduled this week were postponed and I missed Arkells in Buffalo because of covid, so not out of the woods yet for these shows.

Taking my daughter to see Inhaler next week. Lead singer is Bono's son. She really likes them, I think they're okay, but good music to see live.

Whoa. mclusky "do dallas" North American tour 2022. I've seen Future of the Left a bunch of times, but never got a chance to see mclusky.

Have tickets for the following:

  • Heartless Bastards, Flaming Lips
  • JRAD
  • Lord Huron - 3 nights in Denver include 2 at Red Rocks.  This is my wife's favorite band, but I may skip the third night to see JRAD again at Red Rocks.
  • Phish
  • Tedeschi Trucks
  • Roger Waters
  • 21 Pilots - my wife and kids like them, I'm just along for the ride
  • Oteil and Friends
Considering these other shows that are in Cincy this year:

  • Khruangbin
  • The Werks
  • Haim
  • Death Cab for Cutie
  • Lake Street Dive
  • Spoon
  • Band of Horses, Black Keys
