Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (3 Viewers)

No. Having surgery tomorrow and will be non-weight bearing for ~8 weeks so no travel planning.

Oh man, you're laid up two months? Good luck with the surgery, but what's the deal?

Only actually laid up for a few weeks, then on crutches/scooter for 2 months. Have arthritis in foot, had a fusion surgery last January that never healed properly so have to have it redone.
Reading this aged me.on
Get better soon, can you get some of those handicap seats at shows while you're laid up?

Thanks. I won't have a wheelchair but will contact the venues if ADA seating is open to people on knee scooters. I'm sure it is.

I saw Ron White last night. Was a pretty good show with new material. At the end he said the material we heard will be on his next album. He also announced his retirement and said this is his last tour.

Saw Spoon two weeks ago - Amazing show in a smaller venue (2000ish people)

Saw The Killers last night in an Arena (18,000+) and they put on a spectacle, complete with a dude off the floor playing the drums. Great show.

For Reasons Unknown - Fan playing drums:

Thunderpussy / Bush / Breaking Benjamin/ Alice in Chains coming up Saturday night.

Taking my 17 year old to a couple of their shows later this year. Alex G and Field Medic.
Arrived a little late so could only hear Thunderpussy in the lot walking in. Bush kicked ***. A band full of excellent guitar work and a great drummer. Lots of energy. Not a very big BB fan but they sounded great too. Just not a big cookie monster emo fan. Alice was also awesome. Obviously would have been better with Layne but his replacement is more than adequate. Seemed like the crowd probably skewed a little younger and was more into Breaking Benjamin, except when Bush and AIC played their hits. BB singer said it was their 20th anniversary and that his first concert as a kid was AIC. His second was Bush. Surreal to know be touring with them. Overall a great show. Nice to have live music back again. Outdoors and could have turned the humidity down a bit though.
Grabbed a hotel for Friday night to see the tour for the second time in 6-weeks as the first run was SO good. The venue is at a Casino, outdoors and only 10,000 seats. Expecting quite the difference in weather from the first concert, which had temps in the mid 90s at the start. This go round might end in the low 40s. They rotated the opener again, with Plush opening (we really were surprised how go The LIFE Project was and hoped to see them again). I recognize a few Plush song, so barring things going well for me in the casino (which it never is), we'll be in again for all 4 bands.

Also semi related, looking to see Dreamers Never Die, The Ronnie James Dio movie on its limited run.

This is a partial vent, but is there any reason (other than they don't care or they're in on it) why Ticketmaster couldn't enforce that the ticket resale price couldn't exceed the initial ticket price? This is provided that all tickets are electronic, they remain digitally in their ecosystem and they provide the marketplace. I have no problem paying an additional transaction fee anytime the tickets are re-sold but its insane that you go to buy tickets for a show that just went on sale and all that's left are re-sales marked up at least 100%.

Saw RHCP a few weeks ago and they were amazing. Best show I’ve seen in a while.

Upcoming: Pearl Jam, Sound on Sound festival, War on Drugs, Billy Joel/Lionel Richie/Cheryl Crow.
Sound on Sound is a bust. Rumors are they oversold it by 25,000, everyone cramped into way too small of a space with hour+ lines for everything. We got in at 3:30 to catch Band of Horses but in our “special” GA Plus area we were well off to the side of the stages with a crappy video monitor and bad sound. Then we went out to try to find a spot for our blanket but everything in front of the stages was full and it was very difficult to navigate through the long lines for food, booze, merch, etc. There was space way out along the perimeter but the sound sucked. We left at 6:30 and aren’t going tomorrow. Even as much as my wife loves Dave Matthews, no interest to go back.

Holy crap, it’s much worse in the Facebook comments. People in line for 2+ hours for food, and they ran out. Also ran out of beer. “GA Plus” (I’m embarrassed to say what we paid) was a complete waste of money. But the worst is VIP, because they paid hundreds to thousands on those packages and they’re describing it as a complete ****show. Cramped, long lines, running out of stuff. What a disaster.

Daughter is at a 4 day concert Firefly in Dover, DE right now. Has been camping with a bunch of friends and says she's having a great time. The weird thing is that a lot of the top acts are 90's acts like Green Day, Avril Lavigne, My Chemical Romance, etc.

So far this year I've seen Dirks Bentley, Maren Morris, and last night Maddie and Tae. Loved Maddie and Tae the most since the venue was a small 1k seat music club. Seeing Kelsey Ballerini this week at the Anthem in DC. Very much looking forward to that.

This turned out to be one of the most fun concert experiences ever, much more then just the bands on the ticket. The casino was 2.5 hours from home. I worked from car while my wife drove and we got to the hotel around 3pm. Logged of and got to the Casino a little before 4pm. Grabbed drinks, walked around a bit and could not find a seat at a black jack table so I gave let Let it Ride a go instead (a table I am a major lifetime loser). Third hand in I pulled a straight flush on the 3-card poker hand, let it ride through to get the 5-card flush and bet the bonus. They swapped decks right after this hand which was my sign to leave. Cashed out and headed to the bar in the sports book, which already had a live band playing at 4:30pm. Bonus, unexpected live music!! The Band, Black Out, looked every bit like a band from Mid-MI you'd see playing at an Indian Casino, but they rocked. Covers from bands like Seether, Chevelle, RAM, System of a Down, etc; and a bunch of 50+ year olds concert pre-gaming (hard). Played some video poker, won a bit more, had a few more drinks and stayed later than we thought, as we missed much of Plush. What we did catch, we enjoyed. The did a tight cover of Barracuda and their most popular song Hate. Loved the powerful rock voice of their lead singer.

The main bands were every bit as good as what we saw a few weeks ago, but the seats and such (even though we had amazing seats last time) were even better. We were in the 15th row, just off to the left of stage center. While the show was "sold out", a good handful of season ticket holders much have no-showed, as a we had room all around us. Gavin ran through the crowd again, he was right next to me as one point hugging the woman next to us, and close to us again on his return to the stage. Still amazed Gavin is 56 as he and they played a great set. Jerry from AIC had played a song with them last concert and I was hoping for the same, but not to be. BB was just as good as last time, but Ben appeared slightly hammered a she paid homage to AIC and Bush. AIC shook up the playlist just a touch swapping out Ranier Fog for Your Decision. GREAT swap for me as Your Decision is a favorite of my from their post Layne stuff. Jerry actually started the wrong song and the said "whoops. wrong one" and then pour into Your Decision.

May have to eat the Dio, Dreamers Never die Tix as I deploy to major weather events and Ian has me on standby to stage for it's impact.

Last minute decision last night to see Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers. After I bought my ticket I saw a notice that there were two local bands opening and RCPM would take the stage at 9:45. My first thought was GD that is too late. It really made me feel old. I stuck it out and was glad I did. One of the openers was called Desert Fish and they really brought the energy. It was some kind of alternative reggae rap sound and it was fantastic. Think RATM but not as angry. Three lead singers that would switch it up as the show went on. RCPM never disappoint and they brought it for the home town crowd. Glad I went and stayed up way past bedtime. I can't remember the last time I was out past midnight. :headbang:

Saw Paul Oakenfold (DJ sets), Pet Shop Boys, and New Order last night in Philly at the Mann (18th row center). Wow. Pet Shop Boys were amazing. It was my first time seeing them and I was blown away. New Order also played a great set. They did 2 Joy Division songs (maybe 3 if you include Ceremony which was done by both band iterations). They are “co-headlining” meaning the bands switch off who goes first and second each night. The great thing is both bands play a full set so it’s like 2 headliner concerts. This was a real treat after the show was delayed over 2 years. If you’re into either of these bands or Paul Oakenfold, I’d say catch the show if you can if any tickets are still available. @Ted Lange as your Bartender, any thoughts on the show?

New Order Setlist

The bad part is I had to get back to Tampa asap because Hurricane Ian (irony?) sucks. Stayed at a Hilton about 5 minutes from the venue and then proceeded to book more flights today. I got about 3 hours of sleep before we left for the airport. Made it back around 2 pm today for prepping. Going out for gas around 3 am and food around 6 am.

Roger Waters rocked the **** out of the chase center with the music and light show but would not stop talking politics between each song, honestly it ruined the entire show. the set list was so great and the rest was such dogshit

I pretty much agree with everything you say. I didn’t necessarily go to see the Pet Shop Boys but I was super impressed with them. They sounded great. New order put on a strong show as well but they left a number of songs on the table I would have liked to hear (Crystal and 60 Miles an Hour for example), but the Joy Division covers were a nice touch.

Oakenfold’s DJ set between the two headliners was strong as well. And the Mann was a great venue to host them (except for the parking).

Onto the Killers and Johnny Marr tomorrow night at Wells Fargo

ETA: Stay safe @Osaurus

Saw Arctic Monkeys Thursday night at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn. It was about a 3,000 seat venue. Tickets sold out in less than 10 minutes and they only played three US dates this year (this plus two festivals in Vegas and LA). All I can say is wow.

It was a no phones show, as they were filming a concert movie for this set. We had to put our phones in these sealed pouches, which were only unlocked as we left the venue. It was also their first time playing songs live from their new album which is dropping next month, including There’d Better Be a Mirrorball, which is getting radio play.

I veer more towards their older stuff, and there were only 4 songs from the first two albums, but overall they sounded incredible, the venues acoustics were top notch and the crowd was one of the most hyped I’ve ever seen. Here’s the setlist

Just saw Carly Rae Jepsen and not shamed of it.

She rules.

I don't get why she's not on the pop stardom of a Katy Perry or Taylor Swift.

Or just feels perhaps underrated by mainstream music.

Iron Maiden is playing near me next month. Their whole floor is GA. I'm thinking of grabbing a single ticket and going (none of my friends are avail). How early would you get there before doors opening for a good shot at the first few rows of GA?

Never got to see them back in HS and now that I'm in my 2nd childhood phase I want to do as much as I missed back then.

Seeing them in Columbus on the 7th and Detroit on the 9th!! First on the rail is a big thing with Maiden fans, so I'd be there when doors open if you want a chance to be close. At 54 and 5'6", my main floor days are over (really, they were over in 1987 when I did GA main floor for Motley Crue & Whitesnake feared I wouldn't survive). Instead, we have Club Level at Nationwide on Janick's side of the stage and then front row mezzanine level, "mid-court" on Dave & Adrian's side of things at Little Caesars. I joined the fan club to be able to buy the Detroit seats so I could get the exact seats we wanted. We will have no one in front of us and a glass partition to our right. I can't freaking wait. I had to sell my tickets in 2019, due to a close friends daughter's wedding.

thanks....yea I'm not sure what to expect with their floor, but I figure it might be a bit tamer than back in the day. But overall I have never seen them, don't know if they will ever come around again, and am in the F-it mode in my life right now. so if things get too heavy, I'll be by myself so I could move back I just don't want to get a GA ticket and find myself on the way back. I also dont mind getting there a few hours early—ill take the time off of work—but also don't want to go through that and see people camping out when I get their either.

Didn't get to many shows over the summer but this month and next are pretty busy. Rammstein at Soldier Field was definitely top 3-5 shows I have been to. Last Sunday went to Motionless in White/Ice Nine Kills/Black Veil Brides, was meh but only paid $20 so can't complain, Sunday night shows are always so low energy.

Looking forward to seeing The Hu open for Five Finger Death Punch and Megadeth tomorrow, decent chance I don't even stay for 5FDP.

Deadmau5 on Saturday night, Sabaton next Saturday, then Trivium on Friday 10/21.

Based on this post, not sure if we'll ever cross paths at a show. Here's what I'm considering.

10/13/22 The Airborne Toxic Event
10/16/22 Kurt Vile
10/22/22 The Record Company
11/6/22 Yes
11/11/22 Twiddle
11/18/22 ekoostik hookah
12/2/22 Ryan Adams
12/3/22 Trampled by Turtles
12/30/22 Goose

The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival returned to Golden Gate Park after a two year absence. This huge free festival is one of the best things about living in SF.

I made it out all three days this year. Mrs. Eephus and I spent the whole day on Friday at one stage seeing Drive-By Truckers, Asleep at the Wheel, Bluegrass mandolinist Sam Bush and Canadian country rockers Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. DBTs put on their usual rockin' show with the fog rolling in. I hadn't seen Asleep at the Wheel for 40+ years but they still put on an entertaining show.

On Saturday, I went by myself late in the day. Elvis Costello was playing at the biggest of the five stages but I was too far away to see much of him. I headed over to another stage to wait for Adrian Belew and Jerry Harrison's Talking Heads act. It was billed as Remain in Light so I was expecting them to play the whole album but they instead played about two-thirds of it interspersed with some Talking Heads songs from other records, one King Crimson number and Harrison's only hit "Rev It Up". They were pretty good although neither is much of a frontman. I'd definitely go see them again in a smaller venue.

Mrs. Eephus was back on the trail Sunday. We arrived a few songs into Steve Earle & guests with a tribute to songwriters who've died in the past two years (e.g. Jerry Jeff, Prine, Shaver, David Olney). I eventually did get to see Costello because he and Earle dueted on the Grateful Dead's "Brokedown Palace". Earle closed the set with his son's song "Harlem River Blues" which was very moving. We stuck around for a breathtaking set from Rhiannon Giddens but headed home before Emmylou Harris closed out the stage we were at.

Love this thread, nice to be back.

Been to a bunch of good shows recently, but hesitant about being too critical or whatever in fear of rocketatcion taking offense and reporting me. He has clout here. So yeah, banned, with no explanation, because of something he couldn't take (RA - just say it or PM me, it's not a big deal). "Reporting" is synonymous with tattling, but whatever. I apologize for my "offense".

Anyway, Tom Petty died 5 years ago yesterday. Just went to a Festival where they honored him all weekend long, it was cool. The impact he left, the love, everything, could be seen and heard throughout. If anyone in here is a TP fan, let me just say it wasn't even about him, but holy **** . . . they did him right.

Got tickets for Green Day at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood ,FL on Sept. 22. Rooms were free for the wife and I, just had to buy tickets to the concert.
Flying out on the 21st and coming home the 23rd so my wife can go see Elton John on Saturday the 24th.
Green Day was freaking awesome, maybe one of the best concerts I've ever seen. They had no opening act so it was just them for two hours playing all the favorites. Billie Joe Armstrong is a great front man, very engaging and entertaining.
It's amazing how well music sounds when it's in a place specifically built to listen to music.

Getting into my 40s so probably getting close to mellowing out. Brady Center with their $20 GA tickets are too good to pass up sometimes, needed this venue in my life 20 years ago.

The Hu were awesome, very unique Mongolian metal with 8 of them rocking out. Then got 2 picks, one Mustaine and one Zoltan.
Ended up not being in the mood for deadmau5 and wanted to watch CFB, so sold my ticket through Ticketmaster, very easy process but then had to fill out some tax documents for my $5 profit. Would have just eaten it if I knew that was going to be the case.

Was gonna grab tix this morning to John Mellencamp in Clearwater next March, but decided against it after looking up recent performances. His voice is shot.

Sucks cuz I've always wanted to see him live, but I waited too long.

Nice. I saw him live for the first time a few months before he died. Word was after that 40th anniversary tour, he was planning to do a Wildflowers tour at smaller venues where they would play the whole album. I was gonna do whatever it took to get tix, but sadly he passed right after the tour ended.

Night one of two tonight in Columbus and I am SO excited. AND, I might get a third chance in Tampa at the end of the month as I have been working Hurricane Ian virtually since before it hit and fly down to be onsite on Tuesday. AND, AND, if the venue survived, The Iron Maidens are in Ft Myers later this month too. I had tickets to see them in Roseville, CA earlier this year while working the wildfires out there, but got tied up with work and had to eat the ticket.

MIND BLOWN. We got to Columbus and checked in by lunch, met a work buddy and proceed to do 6+ hours of day drinking on High St before the concert. There were folks in Maiden swag EVERYWHERE. In the 4th of 5th bar we went to, there was a group of about 20 fans together. One of them bought a round for the whole bar. Inside Nationwide (which is gorgeous btw) the place was packed well before the opening act came on. Merch lines were bezerk, so we are waiting until tomorrow. At 54 it was nice to be one of the younger guys in the place. Other than the main floor, I was sort of surprised how many people sat for most of Maiden's set. I don't get how, months into a world tour and ages between 65-70, these guys can nail every note. It was spectacular. The almost 2-hour set was a perfect blend of a few new songs and classics. Having done two outdoor concerts this year, the sound indoors was SO much better (or they just had superior gear) I have no idea how Detroit tomorrow could be any better.

@glvsav37 When we were grabbing lunch and a guy next to us mentioned he'd "won" a first on the rail pass for 2 and he was there alone and looking for someone to share the pass with. I asked if this was common and he said, all the time. No idea how, but you may want to try and see if you can sync up with someone with a pass. Also, he said that he has had main floor for Maiden dozens of time and called the fans on the floor "kind" and said they "look out for each other"

Mrs. Eephus' favorite band is X so I've seen them and their various side projects play a lot. This weekend was John Doe. We saw him Friday night in a proper dive bar in the East Bay and Sunday at an outdoor beer garden stage in Marin County.

John's touring with a standup bass and a really swinging drummer. He bills it as the John Doe Folk Trio but they had more of a Rockabilly vibe to me. It's hard to believe that he's pushing 70 because he sounds as good as ever.

MIND REBLOWN Another great afternoon roaming around a great city, before we got over to Little Caesars Arena about a half hour before the opener. We missed most of them on Friday, so we decided to give them a shot. Getting to our seat, we sat next to the worlds #1 Within Temptation fan; a really nice guy in his 60s that follows them all over. Now I see why, they we incredible. Heavy bass and drums with an Evanessense type vocal. Then, in much better seats than the other night, Maiden somehow stepped it up, driven by an incredible crowd. Last night's best song by far was Hallowed be thy Name. I LOVE when all 3 leads wail with Steve on bass and we could hear every note from each. With a partial tour already announced for next year, I can't wait to see where we may get to see them on that tour.

My daughter and her friend had suite tickets for The Killers Saturday Night at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit. I get a call around 5pm Saturday from my daughter who said her friend's baby was ill and she could not go and asked if I want to go with her. We had a blast. The concert was very entertaining.

Caught this show in Philly a few weeks ago. As great as the Killers were, I was SO SO SO happy to see Johnny Marr as the opener.

The Smiths were always one of my “never going to happen” bucket list shows, but Marr played three Smiths songs (and one from Electronic which was awesome), so close enough! And then he came out during the Killers encore to play This Charming Man with Brandon singing. Felt like only 10-15% of people were aware of the song or what exactly they were seeing, which made it even better for us that knew. Highlight of the night for me.
