Concerts thread - FBG's lovin' live music, we're back in action! (3 Viewers)

Not sure who you see where that's not happening. I have two buddies who go all over for Phish and Umphrees and they take tons of pics and you can see others doing the same.

A few pics, sure. I take a few every concert. But not everyone with their phones out taking video the entire time. Put your phone away and enjoy the show.

Oh I agree, but I admittedly primarily see DMB so my only other experience are my two buddies who go to a ton of different shows and their pics all show all the phones.

Walked out of Guns n Roses at the Hollywood Bowl after an hour. 2nd concert I’ve ever walked out of. Black Keys were great. Slash and company were great. But Axl sounds like a frog in heat. Couldn’t take it anymore

Caught a ticket drop and got a pair of good floors for Tool in Milwaukee last week. One of my favorite live bands. Great show as usual but thought the set was kinda average. Caught an Undertow in Chicago last year and wish they played more off of Aenima/Lateralus/Undertow. Still had a blast. Gotta say Chocolate Chip Trip was one of my favorites of the night. That one seems to get better everytime I see it.

The week before I saw Gilla Band in a coffee shop. Love small gigs like this. My buddy got blasted by a chick in a mosh pit in a coffee shop. Lol.

In regards to phones, went to a show last night and guy to my right recorded In This Moment's entire show, literally (an hourish). Fortunately didn't affect my experience besides being distracted by why he was doing this, but would have been pissed if I was standing behind him on a GA floor. Gotta love paying for a ticket only to worry about recording with your phone the whole time, along with the person behind you paying for a ticket to watch through your phone. Oh and he had the light on, so also annoyed the people in front of him.

We weren't overly close either, right in front of the mix. I know everyone has their thing, but I feel so far disconnected from these people, along with the grammers with pics of their food, that it makes me wonder if evolution is getting hung up somewhere and we are witnessing the glitches around us.

Going to see My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult in March after not seeing them live since the late 90s. Lol. Friend is coming to Tampa and we’re going to see Lords of Acid in May. I think they’re on their 10th lead singer

People that film entire songs are annoying. I only take pics to promote bands on my Instagram page. I like to promote lesser known bands.

I take photos occasionally, but never video. Love all the portrait mode video taking, wannabe influencers out there.

October was a great month for live music:

Cannibal Corpse (Blood Incantation, Gorguts, and Mayhem opened)
The Warfield, San Francisco
Missed Blood incantation, unfortunately. I didn't know a lot about Gorguts, but they ripped my face off. Amazing. Mayhem, founders of Norwegian black metal, are famous for 1) the lead singer committing suicide, 2) one band member stabbed another to death, and 3) burning churches. Yeah, Norwegians aren't fans of Christianity. Anyway, the bass player that murdered his fellow bandmate is back after a long prison sentence - which begs the question: what do you have to do to kicked out of this band? Cannibal Corpse was killer. Amazing, brutal pit, and the pit highlight was a big kid in a giant, full sized Pokemon outfit.

Queens of the Stone Age (Viagra Boys opened)
Bill Graham Civic Center, San Francisco
Viagra Boys are great, if you haven't heard them. Sort of a punk / jam band hybrid. Good stuff. I liked QOTSA before this show, but having seen them live for the first time, I am a huge fan. Live music always separates the great bands from the pretenders, and QOTSA were dope. Killer sound, and the band is super tight.

The Chats (Gym Shorts and Schizophonics opened)
The UC Theater, Berkeley
The Chats are a solid punk band from Australia - really great. The highlight of the show was the Schizophonics. Kind of a 60s groovy punk vibe, the guitarist / singer was so acrobatic, it's one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. Highly recommended.

Polyphia
The Warfield, San Francisco
Prog rock gets old fast, but these dudes are some of the best musicians in the world. Amazing.

OMG the Smoko guys???

Queen was great! First time at BMO stadium. New place where the LAFC soccer team plays. Only seats 22,000. Great design and not a bad seat in the house. Beautiful night in open air. Sound was excellent. More impressed with Roger on drums and vocals than I remember last time I saw them. Always used to seeing Adam and Brian up front but man Roger is so good. Hard to believe Adam has been performing with them for 10 years. Solid 24 song set

Yep. That's right. Great live band.

The Hives
Bimbo's 365 Club, San Francisco

Those that have known me these 20 years on this board know I've had this avatar pretty much the entire time. It's a GIF I made from The Hives' classic first hit Hate To Say I Told You So. That's how long I've been wanting to see this band live. I hope y'all can make it to Bimbo's some day. Across the street is a bar with excellent Indian food. Bimbo's has been around since 1931, and it's dope. Very small venue, and the sound is about as good as you'll ever hear. The Hives are a rarity - after all - how many great punk bands can you name from the last 20 years? Not a band from the 80s that still tours - a punk band formed in the last 20 years. Just an amazing night.

Wife surprised me with tix to train/better than Ezra in Napa next Friday. She gave me a save the date a few months ago and sprung it on me tonight
I haven't been to a concert in easily 15-20 years. This one was a small, open air venue in Napa near oxbow market. Several food trucks and a lot of bars. Never felt too crowded. Fantastic evening. going to start doing more of this.

Very fun. Both bands played several covers…

better than Ezra played

blister in the sun

an Inxs tune

Tiny dancer

train played

Steve Miller- the joker

Grabbed tickets for Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham (basically the Circle with a diff guitarist) for next July in Tampa.

They're doing a 2024 Tribute to Van Halen tour where most of the setlist will be VH songs.

After doing a few VH songs with Anthony at Hagars Birthday bash in Cabo recently, they decided to take it on tour.

"We pulled out a couple of them and it was an instant lovefest with the fans from our first riffs," Hagar said in a statement with the tour announcement. "The music we created is going to outlive us all. They deserve to be heard so it's time we go out and serve the fans that music, while we still can."

“It’s crazy to think that it’ll be 20 years since Mikey and I played these songs with Van Halen on the 04’ Best of Both Worlds Tour,” said Hagar. “With Joe on board, we can take a deeper dive into those years. We’re going to touch on some hits from my entire career but seeing fans old and new really embrace the new collection set off something in Mikey and I."

They are coming here to St Louis next Aug. Thinking hard about going. I saw The Circle tour a few years back and loved it.

Caught Manchester Orchestra last week. Reasonably small venue, so not a bad place in the house. Man, these guys are insanely talented. Thoroughly enjoyed the music. Will definitely try and catch them again.

Posted the above and then scrolled back a few posts and saw all the pic/video shaming. 😄

I try do a mix. I like to have some memories to take home from the show and also keep trying to remind myself to put the phone away. I know I need to put it away more.

Railbird festival tickets went on sale today. Lord Huron is my wife's favorite band and are playing second day, so grabbed single day for second day. She has been having some medical issues and I don't think both days would be doable.

Oddly enough - I got single-day tickets on Saturday for my daughters - who had wanted to see Noah Kahan in Nashville - but I balked at the $420 price for available tickets in Nashville.

Heading to Depeche Mode next week in LA. Return leg, saw them back in March as well. Have seen them on every tour since 93. Always a good show.

My 14 year old is going this time. Might be her second time at a concert in general, excited to share with her.
We had a great time. Kid loved it and has started listening to some of their songs she didn't know.

Set list changed slightly from March and they added a great song I am not sure I heard in concert before.

Yearly Dec 30th Toadies show tomorrow. Taking at least one kid, probably both. Going to be too old for a 3 hour standing, jumping, headbanging, hands in the air concert someday, but that day is not tomorrow.

Got tickets for Steve Miller Band/Journey/Def Leppard for their outdoor stadium tour this summer.
Only really excited about Journey but trying to manage my expectations.
Saw Def Leppard at the state fair a number of years ago, and Joe Elliott was just awful.
Hopefully the nostalgia and the beer will carry the night.

Saw Def last summer at PNC park and they sounded fantastic
Looking forward to Steve Miller
Journey is my wife’s cup of tea
