First time seeing String Cheese Incident last night. Anyone else ever seen them? I think there's a couple of jam bands fans in the ffa. That was a really fun show. Far exceeded my expectations. Those old mofos can really jam. I was running on fumes after they played for 3.5 hours. I liked them a lot more than Goose. A lot more diversity in the genres of music they cover. Even Phish where some of their jams just go in all different directions before coming back together, I appreciated the cohesion in their jams. Always wanted to give them a shot and the opportunity finally presented itself. Look forward to seeing them again next year. Its also nice they don't have nearly the following as Phish so you can see them in more intimate venues.

Brooks and Dunn put on a great show. First time at Yamaava Casino in So Cal and they have an awesome venue for concerts. So many hits and they can still get after it at their ages (Brooks 68 and Dunn 70). New album coming this week and they teased snippets of other stars doing different takes on their hits. They sat in the sessions, seemed similar to Daryl’s House. Bet it’s great
 
Kacey Musgraves last night, but really only to see Lord Huron, my wife's favorite band, open. We stayed a bit for Kacey but weren't really into it so left early (we were 90 minutes from home, I had to work today, wasn't feeling good, and wife's back was bothering her).

Kacey is very talented. She is on the Brooks and Dunn Reboot II collaboration album doing Neon Moon. Great.
 
Orbital 11-16-2024

I knew I was going to enjoy this show, but I had no clue how dope the venue would be. Located in an industrial area of San Francisco, The Midway is more of an experience than a venue. First, we ate a gourmet meal at the pop-up restaurant that was serving that night. Incredible. Then we chilled in a smaller room with a killer opening DJ. Amazing sound. Then for Orbital, they played both the Green and Brown albums. I had forgotten that practically every jam on those albums was a banger. Might as well call Orbital the Cypress Hill of big beat electronica. The owners of this club also own The Public Works. Seeing a show there on November 30th, and I am fully jacked. If you ever see a show in SF, make sure you check out these venues.
 
I’ve grabbed Devin Townsend and Jack White so far for 2025
Getting my kid Trivium tickets too
Also supposed to be going to Disturbed

Nothing else grabbing my attention just yet, maybe Weird Al but it’s July 2nd and not sure if we are doing anything special for the 4th that would take us out of town, so will wait on that

I saw Trivium open for Iron Maiden a couple of years ago. Not my cup of tea, but they were pretty good.

Just remembered that I saw In Flames open for Behemoth, along with Wolves in the Throne Room about six years ago. Killer show. My friends were sitting in the balcony, and when Behemoth started I had to get in that pit. Messed my knee up pretty good lol. I know people get tennis elbow, but I called that injury "Behemoth knee."

Not really mine either but my oldest (almost 16) is a huge metalhead so I take him to a lot of shows
 
Only show I have so far in 2025 is Molchat Doma (1/28). Trying to move out of state by June so keeping concert ticket purchases to a minimum. It’s hard.

I've got a couple extra tickets to the King's X show in Mt. Dora, FL (NW of Orlando) on Dec. 7th if anyone is going to be in the area.

I caught his tour this summer and the main thing I would say is that I wish I'd seen him 5 or so years ago at a smaller venue. I definitely had the chance a few times but just kept missing him. He's selling out huge arenas now and has to cater to the generic country music crowd that has adopted him. I prefer his earlier vibe, but its still a good show. His band is polished and he's got great pipes on the love ballads, which are the main crowd-pleasers in this tour. One of my crotchety old man pet peeves is when people insist on singing along loudly at shows and this was a bad night for people with my particular malady.

I've been a fan... Love some of their stuff and not as much others. I remember the first time that Ninja song popped up for me and I thought it was both the most amazing and awful thing I'd heard.

I watched Zef. Other than learning a little about their origins and their relationship, it wasn't that interesting a doc for me.

But their shows look pretty all out.
 
King's X was spectacular last night. I can't believe how long it's been since I've seen them but they're just as tight as ever. dUg's voice isn't quite as elastic as it used to be but for being in his mid 70's it's pretty remarkable. I've still never seen another band get in the pocket quite like they do and just produce enveloping waves of sound. No recording I've ever heard of them does them justice and the Youtube concert videos do them a significant disservice.
 
Saw a couple of shows in Vegas over the weekend. First was George Strait, Chris Stapleton and Little Big Town at Allegiant. Have to say it is so easy when staying at Mandalay Bay. Easy walk over the bridge. Concert was excellent. Little Big Town opened and were solid. You can tell when they do solos all are talented. Sometimes they harmonize too much IMO. Songs get loud. They are better when understated. Plenty of hits, especially for a 3rd act. Stapleton - what can you say? Just delivers every time. Played some covers which meant other songs had to go. Didn’t play Joy of My Life which was a bummer. But so good. Strait played a lot of his new stuff. Sounded great. Finished with all of his hits. Hard to beat Amarillo by Morning and Troubador back to back. Great show. I just prefer arenas over stadiums.

Last night we saw Garth Brooks for the first time with his residency about over. Favorite set of the weekend. Intimate venue at Caesar’s. He had so much energy and he did a lengthy encore including a lot of acoustic stuff. What an entertainer. Trisha came out for 2-3 songs and sounded great. Really glad I finally saw him.

Mixed in some excellent new Jose Andres and Bobby Flay restaurants, so overall a great weekend. @bigbottom - sorry we didn’t connect. Hope the Eagles at the Sphere was great. My friends went Friday night as well

Yeah, the show was awesome! Much different experience than U2 - better in some ways.

And sorry as well that we didn’t connect, but it sounds like you had a busy weekend catching a lot of great music! Glad to see Little Big Town is still doing well. My band opened for them back in 2014 and they were really great.
 
Fans of metal or punk might enjoy this story

So the other night I'm practicing with my band. I mentioned that we should all go see a local show some time. The music scene here is thriving, and there are plenty of good, cheap shows. Bass player said, "When's the next show?" I looked at my phone and said, "Right now." We then put our instruments away and went to a killer little gig at a taqueria. Well, I sustained a cracked rib in the mosh pit, and Mrs. Dogg said, "You're dumb. Why is a 57 year old man in a pit?" I agreed it was dumb, but now I get to tell the story about that time I broke my rib at a black metal show at a taqueria.

I take my kid to a lot of metal shows (he just turned 16). He likes to get in the pit
I used to do it when I was younger , want no part of it now. We went to a small venue a few months back (like 500 capacity, Eyehategod headlined). I was standing against the wall and got crunched when someone got shoved

I got him main floor for Trivum in the spring, think ill just stand by the bar this time

Also have a good buddy that went down at a SOAD/Slipkmot show back in college, completely shattered his elbow. Still can’t stick his arm straight. I do like that the pit culture seems to be pretty tight knit (helping people up, etc) but all it takes is one group of a-holes or an errant fall for things to go south, so as a dad I tend to worry
 
Ringing in the holiday season tonight with my MAD31 artist, The Slambovian Circus of Dreams who do a handful of Christmas shows each year. I even got my parents into them so it has become a yearly tradition, which is nice. Seeing them again with the friends who introduced me into them on 12/30 for the annual New Year's Eve Eve show in Philly.
 
Drivin n cryin were solid last night. They played as a 3 piece without Lour Joemets...I think he's back in Sturgill Simpsons band...so that was a bit dissapointing but still a very solid show at one of my favorite clubs, the 40 Watt in Athens .

The opener, Patty Pershayla, absolutely stole the show. Great energy, stage presence, crazy good singer, and fun songs. Joan Jett feels like a lazy comparison but pretty accurate. Maybe sprinkle in a little Motorhead and some pop punk influence?

Hung out with Eyehategod last year. Those are some decent chaps. My friend hangs out with all those New Orleans hardcore bands, so more recently we chilled with Soilent Green - yet another group of solid dudes. As for danger in the pit, yeah anyone can get hurt. I wouldn't worry about your son. Most pits these days are pretty chill, and if someone starts acting like a ****, he's not going to last very long.
