I've seen The Who 6 times in my life, and saw them one last time in Chicago last week. This has to be it. It was honestly one of the better performances I've seen by them. A little rough in spots, but they brought it. Roger and Pete were self deprecating, funny and charming. In a Spinal Tap moment, Pete promised they weren't going die on stage tonight, that they were saving that for the Philly show. lol.
Was really surprised that Daltrey could still do it in his 80's. Crazy. Not sure if he had some backing tracks going or what, but was amazed at his performance, especially Love Reign O'er Me. Second time seeing bassist John Button who replaced Pino Palladino years ago. He was a revelation. Honestly didn't even know he was in the band the last time I saw em. Pino is an excellent player in his own style, but Button really laid into Entwistle's sound. Made a huge difference.
Best thing about the show was the setlist. Heard everything I wanted. A nice chunk from Quadropheia. The Seeker. Even got an Eminence Front which I hadn't seen live in years. Great night of music for $80. Was not disappointed. Ending with The Song Is Over and then Roger and Pete alone doing Tea & Theater was an emotional finale. One of the great bands.
