Consensus Top 300 Albums of All-Time: Taking lists of your 70 favorite albums until 7/1 (6 Viewers)

No fence for me.
I wasn't going to submit a list.
I’m not ruling it out, but my impact on the top 50 albums overall is going to be minimal if I do.

I’m sending mine over. I can’t figure out how to import an excel spreadsheet. If you need me to resend I’ll try to figure it out

If you look at the numbers (974 different albums selected with 713 of them only appearing on 1 list) most people's lists don't have a huge impact on the Top 50. There's a lot of variety.

I had already received your list and confused you with @Mookie. Sorry about that.

I’d still be interested in seeing your list if you put one together and hearing your thoughts on some of your unique higher ranked albums.

Unless you’re the Red Sox.

At the end of the television show countdown, people started revealing and commenting on their shows that did not make the Top 300. That will be encouraged here.

Since I'm always looking for the loopholes in the rules, I submit this question:

I have a 4 song "single" that was released on CD in the early 90s that I would like to include. It contained 3 live songs and one remix version of a song which appears on an album, but not the same version. The total time of the recording is a hair over 23 minutes, which is more than half an album.

So for @Dr. Octopus , my question: can I include this album in my list of 70?

It doesn’t sound like an “album” to me, but if you want to submit that’s up to you. I told some one else EPs are fine.

Obviously it’s unlikely to crack the Top 300.

This has gotten away from me. Going to have to throw something together without too much thought. List will probably only be made up of 15-20 bands.
That's mainly how I did the geography and covers countdowns. Whatever came to mind first was what made the list.

I've been a little more meticulous with this one, but not to the extent of what I do for the artist countdowns, which is listen to their entire catalog* in chronological order and rank the songs against each other as I go.

* - for Chicago I stopped after 1980.

At this point I’m catching a lot of the “mistakes” people make with bands/albums (I.e. “the” before some bands or album titles left off), some even getting words wrong in an album title “everyone” instead of “everybody” (and far worse :cough: tim), but there’s bound to be some mistakes in the Countdown if people don’t make the effort on their end.
I had one where the artist name had to be changed for copyright infringement so I went with the new version but I may have forgotten an umlaut

This weekend/week I’m just making cuts and making this happen. I’m excited for the results.
I'm excited to share - the list looks good now. The Top 20 isn't going to shock anyone but perhaps a few surprises.

I think the rest of the list is still wide-open.
Can't wait to get to the listening!

You plan on doing a highest ranked not in the top 300 preview?

I'm regretting some of my choices but overall am just happier to have it in. If you just do it, you might be a little chagrined by some choices you made, but forget it. It's not worth any aggravation or stress and you might find you're a lot more fond of certain records than you originally thought (I never would have thought of my number one but it kept beating all the other albums I picked for this exercise—one record per recording artist, unless they qualified both group and solo, of which there were two of those, I think).

Had my knee surgery on Tuesday so I'm pretty much laid up in a recliner for the day for the next 4-5 days so should be able to get a list in. Thanks for the heads up again.

Back around 3 am this morning from a business trip to Denver. Flight delays due to weather got me in about 90 minutes late, and then a fatal wreck closed the main highway to get downtown from the airport. RIP to the truck driver and I won't complain about my delay.

In Denver I was lucky enough to experience multiple hotel moves due to air conditioning failures resulting from extreme heat. Fun. I'd say that my trip was a success anyway, except that I did such a good job of planning and running the company-wide meetings that I've now been volun-told to do it again in Vegas in September. The perils of reasonable competency.

Anyway, that's all to say that, as I had previously posted, I'll turn to this now that my stressful trip is complete. I also think I can get OH to put together a list by the deadline, though he's mostly spending his free time right now writing a short story.

My list is in.

Decade breakdown:

'60s: 13
'70s: 34
'80s: 7
'90s: 12
'00s: 4

Artists with 4 albums: 1 (you can probably guess who it is)
Artists with 3 albums: 1
Artists with 2 albums: 10
Artists with 1 album: 43

Albums I put on my long list that didn't make the cut: 27
There is one person who appears 5 times between solo and group albums.

I've added 3 to this number to make a bona fide top 100, because I'm OCD like that.
I made a list of 100 and stopped about three weeks ago. I put 16 on the spreadsheet before I stopped. I listened for several days with lots of skipping to cover more ground, then stopped. I may not get this done, but today's a good day to fire up this project again. We'll see.

I realized something about myself. I don’t like synthesizers.

Why do I love the early ZZ Top Albums? The early Free albums? The early Led Zeppelin Albums? The first Jackson Browne Album? The Black Keys covers of Junior Kimbrough? The North Mississippi All Stars? The acoustic version of Taylor Swift’s Folklore? Most of the old MTV unplugged concerts?

It’s that natural raw sound I can’t get enough of.

Was thinking about this a little while ago and I think that the bottom half of this will be much more interesting since we know the top 100 will be dominated by Zepplin and The Beatles and the like. I'm much more interested in the non chalk that will make this.
Yea, I'm not sure how you do something like this. My top 70 would be pretty non-chalky as I've never been much of a pop music fan.

I'm not sure how you're defining "pop" but pop music hasn't been well represented to date. If you just mean "popular", yes there's plenty of well known albums by well known bands selected.
