Consensus Top 350 Albums of All-Time: 1. The Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd (10 Viewers)

Never to early for christmas
August most certainly is - let’s enjoy the present.
:yes:

My wife will start the Christmas playlist on the way home from whiskey & pie at her aunt's Thanksgiving night and it's permitted until we drive to my brother's for the final Christmas the weekend after the 25th. I won't say I never play it outside of being around the family during that time, but I don't seek it out on my own until the week of. And I love Christmas music, it's just now ain't it. Now's for summer music, of which is not comprised of much on my list of 70!

Great advice in general. It's petty but it annoyed me yesterday when I was out shopping and saw all the Oktoberfest beers and Pumpkin Spiced stuff. I know summer is hot and can be draining for people but come on lets leave things in their places.
Big yep! We always over-load on summer drinks late July in anticipation of this happening. Fall beer season is my favorite one, but...not til Fall. We got at least a month before I even want to start thinking about Oktoberfest.

Yeah last August I ordered a Sam Adams Seasonal at a bar, expecting a Summer Ale and when I got an Oktoberfest I was very disappointed. Just not what I expected in the heat of August.

Yep and then by the time it's actually October people are sick of it and want a winter beer or peppermint coffee. We just want everything all the time. Europe seems much better about knowing the time and place for certain things.

In the twentieth century and beyond, America seemed to value bending nature to its will and has succeeded with costs while Europe has tried to bend human nature to its will and has failed spectacularly.

I've been here. It's a beautiful town:

3. Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber, Germany

German Christmas markets are the hallmark of old-fashioned European Christmas towns. The charming Bavarian village of Rothenburg ob der Tauber has one such Christmas market and much more. The town is home to Deutsches Weihnachtsmuseum, the world-famous German Christmas museum.

Celebrating the history of beautiful German Christmas decorations, the museum houses rare Christmas decorations from the 19th and 20th centuries along with traditional Christmas decorations that are still very popular in modern times. Display cases twinkle with delicate handcrafted decorations showcasing the beautiful history of the Christmas celebration.

Never too early. Especially with these adorable little guys!

Awww . . . he wants a hula hoop!
Each year at one of my redraft leagues, there's always one goon that shouts "ALVIN!" after Kamara is drafted.

So for the "five album swap" I have the following people as participating:

@Dr. Octopus (love that guy)
@KarmaPolice
@Pip's Invitation
@Ilov80s
@MAC_32
@Idiot Boxer
@Dan Lambskin
@Don Quixote
@Mrs. Rannous
@Mt. Man
@Yo Mama
@Psychopav

Let me know if I missed anyone that responded or if you're interested in being partnered up.

Anyone that wants to list 5 recommendations generally but doesn't want to commit to listening to others' are free to do so of course.
If no one else in interested, I’ll randomly pick the matchups tomorrow morning and post them here.

It’s not like others couldn’t jump in at any time.

There are a couple names I'm afraid of on that list. 🤞

;)
Like @Ilov80s said I would imagine everyone will try to provide albums they think the other will like.

I actually listened to the Bon Jovi album that was picked in this thing and discovered a song I had never heard before which I thought was great. So you never know when you’ll find a hidden gem.

I would imagine everyone will try to provide albums they think the other will like.
oh, good thing I didn't join then
I hope I didn't leave a bad taste in your mouth with the Dope album. I chose it because it was the only thing I hadn't never heard of. I generally liked all the other artists you gave me so I took a risk. Your tastes aren't wildly out of something I would listen to when working out or when I was 20. So it's definitely not like I hate your tastes or feel like it's bad music. If I had taken 5 of your albums, I would have probably came back liking 3 or 4 of them.

naw, it's fine guy. I know some of the things that I like you guys won't like and some of the things you guys like I won't like. :shrug: I was just trying to make a joke by jokingly implying that I'd intentionally provide albums that others wouldn't like. I wish I had a bigger list but I'm not really an album guys, though I guess I should prob start listening to more full albums. Sometimes the hits are the hits for a reason but with some of my albums there are good songs that aren't singles and I', sure its the same with many of the albums you guys did. Thanks for checking up on me though.

Ok there will be plenty of opportunity to dislike my tastes in movies in the thread KP and I have lol.

I won't be in for the swapathon, but if anyone wants a specific five from my list to have a listen to, I would go with:

Deltron 3030/Deltron 3030 - discussed a bit up thread, this is a 2000 hip hop concept album set 1000 years in the future with fantastic production

Love Is Here/Starsailor or The Coral/The Coral - two pretty similar albums from the early noughties North West indie scene, both fantastic debuts and great live. The Coral are probably a bit more up tempo while Starsailor are more relaxed, pick your poison

lemonjelly.ky/Lemon Jelly - this debut is super chilled electronica, collating their three previous EPs into one package. Perfect background music for various things, if you like EDM but were put off by my previous MAD countdown choices this is basically the opposite

Americana/The Offspring - I thought this might get a bit more love, both the album and the band, who if I remember rightly got nothing in. This was probably the peak of their commercial success and some great late 90s pop/punk

The Man Who/Travis - I guess they never broke the US, or not until the subsequent album. This was huge in the UK in 98 or 99, forget exactly when, peak indie at the time

Americana/The Offspring - I thought this might get a bit more love, both the album and the band, who if I remember rightly got nothing in. This was probably the peak of their commercial success and some great late 90s pop/punk
I had the album at one point and I generally like The Offspring. The Kids aren't alright is a good song that I like. Some of the other hits are a little chessy though.

Here's your top 20 by points. I make no representations, expressed or implied, that this is accurate.

I wonder about the British skew here. Certainly it's not uncommon to see rock countdowns lean a bit that way and the major British classic rock groups deserve their accolades. But this seems a bit out of proportion. I'd argue that in both non-rock (Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Cash, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, etc.) and rock (Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers, The Beach Boys, Chuck Berry, Elvis, The Band) that the U.S. is up there with the major British acts in terms of both quality and importance of the music. Also interesting that the top American acts skew towards grunge and alternative. Nothing against them, but they are clearly overrepresented here. I know this is favorites rather than best and that demographics factor in, but do people really think Nirvana has better albums than Bob Dylan? Really?

To @Dr. Octopus's point at the beginning, I guess part of the fun is seeing something a little different. Just surprised me a little.
Yes, Nirvana has better albums than Bob Dylan. I like Bob Dylan and think he is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, but I like it better when other people cover his songs vs listening to him perform the songs.

We went there for a day on a river cruise several years ago.
Very nice town and it also has a wall around that you can walk to get different views.

Americana/The Offspring - I thought this might get a bit more love, both the album and the band, who if I remember rightly got nothing in. This was probably the peak of their commercial success and some great late 90s pop/punk

Smash made it. Ixnay on the Hombre and Americana were decent but not as good as Smash IMO

Yourself or Someone Like You only got 1 vote? That surprises me given the average age of this board and when it was released.
3 am and Push show up on my playlist from time to time and I like them both. Never listened to the full album though. I know its not a Matchbox 20 but I really like Smooth (I know Supernatural made the list) and Rob Thomas in general. I think the time period had less to do with then the sound. They might be a little too poppy for some people?

Pretty sure they don't celebrate Christmas all year long. They have a Christmas Market. The town is picturesque. Not same thing.

(Dinkelsbühl has fewer tourists.)

I wrote down to revist the 2 bolded. Those are a couple that I remember having and liking back in the day that were in my random pile of downloaded/burned albums. Not sure the electronica is my thing from the middle option, but I will probably try one from door #2. Thanks!

Deltron 3030/Deltron 3030 - discussed a bit up thread, this is a 2000 hip hop concept album set 1000 years in the future with fantastic production

I enjoy this album very much. I own it on vinyl. It's trip hop. Very cool. Produced by Kid Koala and Dan The Automator, if that means anything to people.
I am pretty sure Kid Koala opened for Radiohead in the Kid A/Amnesiac days.

Appetite killed Glam Rock and brought hard rock to mainstream

Appetite was glam rock. They had Hanoi Rocks tattoos on their arms. They started a vanity label to re-release all of Hanoi's records. Uzi Suicide.

They were (Hanoi) fronted by Mike Monroe, who tried to be Marilyn in his own speedball way.

eta* Check out the "Welcome To The Jungle" video. Axl has teased hair and makeup on. I have no problem with glam rock, by the way, but Guns wasn't running from it. By 1989 that had changed. But when they were first coming out in L.A., they had the compact mirrors out.

eta2* Appetite had glam rock tendencies. It was not "glam rock" as I stated. It certainly had elements of it.

I just looked it up and you're absolutely correct. There are concert listings for The Beta Band, Radiohead, and Kid Koala.

I’m glad you guys are doing this. Although I didn’t want to commit to participating, I think I’d like to choose one album from each list to listen to. This assumes you are posting the lists here as opposed to through PMs.
