Consensus Top 350 Albums of All-Time: 1. The Dark Side of the Moon – Pink Floyd (75 Viewers)

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit
I love them more than I do DBT but he's even more country leaning.

I listed his Southeastern album at #11 if you wanted to check him out.
Interesting. I'll have to check it out still. My tastes are "odd" - I like Chris Stapleton country, but not Morgan Wallen country.
I actually sent you a playlist that I am putting together for the next MAD artist round in a PM.

One of Wallen's biggest hits was his cover of Isbells "Cover Me Up". I'm not a Wallen fan either. I like Alt-Country/Americana but not new country generally.

Probably more Rock that Country but you like Blackberry Smoke?

Or Daniel Donatos Cosmic Country? Probably more jam than country

Zac Brown good too

I've seen Blackberry Smoke and Daniel Donato and love both. I'd call BS "Southern Rock".

Zac Brown is ok but I'm not a big fan.

Zac’s live shows were pretty good. He always worked in some nice covers

As far as pure country I’m not a huge fan of the modern artists

Jamey Johnson is solid, he also does a lot of covers of old timey bands though

Saw Megan Maroney open for him before she blew up (blackberry smoke in between them).

London 0 Hull 4 - The Housemartins

I have heard of the band but never listened to them for whatever reason (maybe the band's name?) - I'm not even sure if I ever heard a song from them before.

I loved this album. It had so much energy and hooks and I was hooked (npi) right from the start with "Happy Hour". It never really lets up from there. It's such a fun album and should be played at dance parties (not that I go to any, if any exist).

I liked every song even the slowed down cover song at the end but the standouts imo are "Get Up off Our Knees", "Sitting on a Fence", and "Mighty Ship"

I not only would listen to this one again (I will) but I'll probably check out some of their other stuff as well.

I was hooked (npi) right from the start with "Happy Hour"

The video is excellent (albeit the quality is awful; it's old). Speaking of dance parties, I will never be embarrassed for stealing their dance move (see 1:41).
Note that the song is political (if you think mocking "toxic masculinity" is political).

I'll probably check out some of their other stuff as well
Unfortunately, there's not a lot of other Housemartins to check out other than

However, PD Heaton went on to form The Beautiful South, while Norman Cook went on to other endeavors.

Glad you liked it.

Welcome To The Beautiful South was also on my list and I nearly put it on the list for Dr. Oct, but I wanted to be a little more diverse.

I actually discovered The Beautiful South first (living in London in 1991) and then backtracked to find The Housemartins.

I see that the Housemartins catalog (all 2 albums of it!) is back on Spotify.

I'm thinking there's a MAD artist in here, but damned if I can pick between PD Heaton and Norman Cook.
Currently leaning Norman.
If only one could take two artists ... But that's never been done before.

Yo Mama sort of did with the English Beat tree. So you have some precedent.

Maybe it's not a matter of how country it is or not. Maybe you just like good music? Isbell is simply a better musician than anyone else in DBT and Stapleton is a better musician than Wallen. May just come down to that.

If you really like the 3 songs from The Dirty South that you mentioned, I think you'd like The 400 Unit. I might recommend starting with a live album rather than studio, though. The live stuff has a little more of rock edge to it than the studio recordings and actually can get pretty jammy. I like this one. If you enjoy that, then move on to Southeastern which is a brilliant album but heavy stuff to take on if you aren't sure you'll like it.

@MAC_32 - I’ll post my list in a few. Hopefully there will be enough there you’re not familiar with. I’ll look back in the thread to find your list (I think you posted it) unless you want to pm me.
How about...

Icky ThumpThe White Stripes
The Black ParadeMy Chemical Romance
Sound and FurySturgill Simpson
BornKenny Chesney

The Strange Case Of...Halestorm

If you've already listened to any of them, let me know and I'll pull some others. While you listed some that peak my interest, I'd rather you pick my 5. I'll let you know if I'm already familiar with them and all I ask is no Rush - I've found one song of theirs in which I can get past the vocal (it's not a single) and I'll be very...very surprised if you can find another.
This is great - I’ll know the bigger white stripes and chemical romance songs but haven’t listened to those full albums before. The other three should be mostly new to me. Have you posted your list so I can make sure to give you something newish?
I'll get to it tonight. Thought I'd have a chance between work and coaching, but alas...

I’ve seen him and the 400 Unit twice now. They’re a great band. Sadler and Isbell are a great dual lead.

Ok, @KarmaPolice and I have hashed some things out. 5 he seems most interested in and (is fairly confident he) hasn't heard:
Aerosmith - Get Your Wings
Alice Cooper - Love It To Death
Genesis - Duke
Pretenders - Pretenders
Stevie Ray Vaughn - Couldn't Stand the Weather

He's said he'll probably tackle Dio's Dream Evil as a 6th. I might go for the extra credit of a 6th too, but I'll have other stuff to get through first.

Mt. Man got a ****ty album buddy who had confidently heard 60/70 of his albums. I am really liking that mix, as all are ones I've been meaning to listen to but never have. I wasn't sure about Dio, so that is why I was interested as a bonus. The weird mix that @Mt. Man was assigned:

Opeth - Heritage No, not on my list, but it was my #4 and I had planned to suggest it to anybody who had some 70s and/or prog lean on their list. It also has a song that is a tribute to Dio, so it's fitting I got Mt. Man since Dio was one of his MAD31 artists.
Dinosaur Jr - Farm since he leaned a bit guitar heavy in his list
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory since he had some Stripes on his list
The National - Trouble Will Find Me just because
Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm because of Tapestry and a couple others on there. I didn't mention this one anywhere, but it's a concept album of two characters who run off with each other to escape their problems, and it's my upcoming MAD artist.

Great albums.

Deltron 3030/Deltron 3030 - discussed a bit up thread, this is a 2000 hip hop concept album set 1000 years in the future with fantastic production

I enjoy this album very much. I own it on vinyl. It's trip hop. Very cool. Produced by Kid Koala and Dan The Automator, if that means anything to people.
I am pretty sure Kid Koala opened for Radiohead in the Kid A/Amnesiac days.

I just looked it up and you're absolutely correct. There are concert listings for The Beta Band, Radiohead, and Kid Koala.
Hey, my memory is not total crap!

TWO Weird Al albums and still Dare to be Stupid didn't make the cut? 🤯

Ok, @MAC_32 , here is your mission should you choose to accept it.

Our lists and overall musical tastes look very similar (I think you were one of my top matches). Looking at out lists, it looks like Prog is the main difference that I have and you don’t, so I’m giving you a couple of those. Don’t want to go too crazy, so I’m mixing it up across the five albums. Here you go:

Foxtrot - Genesis

Run the Jeweles 2 - RTJ

Hot Thoughts - Spoon

Operation Mindcrime - Queensryche

Close to the Edge - Yes

If you’re feeling a little less proggy for the last one you can switch to 90125 for Yes (don’t worry about any of the extra stuff after Hearts, Spotify only has the deluxe version).

Hope you enjoy!

@Don Quixote , let's go with these 5 from my list. If there are any you've heard before let me know and I'll re-up:

1. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska - King's X
2. Me and Mr. Johnson - Eric Clapton
3. Take 6 - Take 6 (don't confuse with another Take 6 band. This is the group's eponymous album published in 1988)
4. Beyond Nature - Phil Keaggy
5. Parsely, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme - Simon and Garfunkel
These work for me. I will give a listen.

Here are five for you.

  1. Muswell Hillbillies - The Kinks
  2. Everything is Everything - Donny Hathaway
  3. Acabou Chorare - Novos Baianos
  4. A Tabua de Esmeralda - Jorge Ben
  5. Back to Black - Amy Winehouse

I can offer up something else if familiar with any of these. (Sorry in advance for the two in Brazilian Portuguese if foreign language is something that distracts too much — I don’t mind it, but I’m less a lyric person. Looking at your list and heavy on the acoustic guitar with Simon/Clapton, I thought I’d include my favorite Brazilian guitarists in Jorge Ben and Moraes Moreira of Novos Baianos.)

Even if the prog is a bust, I'm very much looking forward to Running the Jewels and Queensryche! Hopefully that's a Spoon album I'm unfamiliar with too.

This is really good too need to add a few of these
I'd be curious on an update of what you added and if you liked anything.

After thinking about the songs I sent you the other night, I am pretty sure I made a mistake by not including a few older songs. Most of their videos I like are their newer material and as I listened to Blood Mountain the other morning, I was wondering if you might like some of that more. Maybe not, but just a thought I had.

Excellent. I might do a bonus album too and give one of your blues picks a listen.

Since you like Brazilian guitarists feel free to swap out Beyond Nature with Lights of Madrid if you like, also Phil Keaggy.

Even if the prog is a bust, I'm very much looking forward to Running the Jewels and Queensryche! Hopefully that's a Spoon album I'm unfamiliar with too.
If you need a replacement for Spoon let me know.

Thanks, but we're good. I've had a lot of Spoon sprinkled in my ears since I started participating in these music threads, but I don't know where most of them stem from. I'll be surprised one way or another.

@Ilov80s

Looking at your list, I figure these are the albums on mine that you are most likely to enjoy but that you haven't already heard in their entirety.

Bermuda Triangle - Bermuda Triangle (psychedelic rock, Roger pretty much invented electric autoharp)
Blue Moves - Elton John (I like his hits, but I really like his deep tracks. That's why I like this album.)
Simple Dreams - Lina Rondstadt (pretty sure you know who this is)
Carry The Fire - Delta Rae (Folk band for you, sir!)
The Works - Queen (I have no idea if you've actually ever listened to this one.)

Feel free to ask for a re-pick if something else on my list appeals. Wierd Al goes with just about anything.
