Mt. Man got a ****ty album buddy who had confidently heard 60/70 of his albums.I am really liking that mix, as all are ones I've been meaning to listen to but never have. I wasn't sure about Dio, so that is why I was interested as a bonus. The weird mix that @Mt. Man was assigned:

The Innocent Age - Dan Fogelberg
First off "Same Old Lang Syne" is one of the few holiday songs I look forward to each year. It's wonderful storytelling - and isn't really a Christmas/ New Year song, just takes place during the holidays. Still it's magical.
I loved "Leader of the Band" as a kid and it holds up. I loved hearing it again.
With that said I took your out and only listened to Disc 1 of the double album (actually listened to 2 songs on Disc 2 before stopping) as while as I grow older I appreciate softer music more and more, I'm not quite at the "easy listening" level yet. I just couldn't get into most of the other songs. They were pleasant but left me wanting more.
With that said Fogelberg is a great songwriter and has had an interesting career - I'm glad you enjoy him and that he got some representation here. It's good music, just not for me.

This band was reminiscent of someone, but for the life of me, I couldn't come up with who. I'm sure Doc could help me out.
This was good background music for work. I could see enjoying it on the porch during a rainstorm sipping some Wellers.
Funny that you said you don't like "easy listening" but that's exactly what I'd describe this as. Not oldies like Fogelberg, but modern, alt-country easy listening.
I found myself liking the harmonies, but feel like they didn't use them enough.

Unlikely I'll become an alt-country stan, but I have enjoyed it some and appreciate the difference between it and modern, mainstream country.

For Emma, Forver Ago by Bon Iver (a small folk albums written and recorded from a cabin in the woods where he was living off the land, in isolation from the world after his initial attempt at a music career had failed)
Pastel Blues by Nina Simone (her take on the blues following the death of her two friends playwright Lorraine Hannsberry and on her birthday, Malcom X)
Fear Fun by Father John Misty (cynical folk music)
Only God Was Above Us by Vampire Weekend (my favorite 2024 album, indie psychedelic chamber pop-rock I guess)
Where Did Our Love Go by The Supremes (Motown groups are usually just considered hit makers but I think this is a great album all the way through)
If anything there immediately strikes you as something you're very familiar with or not interested in, let me know and I can replace them.

Not sure how formal a review I’m supposed to do, but I definitely liked it. Planning to add the rest of their discography to my library
Almost seemed like they were channeling the Stooges on some of their riffs
I did have to turn down the 2nd half a bit because the wife and I were taking but definitely a good recommendation
Not sure if I will get to anything else this weekend but definitely next week for sure

I and Love and You - The Avett Brothers
I'm familiar with this band, being from North Carolina. For some reason I never really fully listened to this album.
Definitely something I enjoyed. I'm a big Mumford & Sons fan, and these guys are like Americana Mumford.
Album starts out very strong with the title track, a strong follow up with January Wedding and then really hits its stride with the radio hit Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise
I really liked Head Full of Doubt/I and Love and You/And It Spread/Tin Man/The Perfect Space
Kick Drum Heart grew on me, though it felt out of place on this album.
Laundry Room had my favorite lyric "Tonight I'll burn the lyrics 'cause every chorus was your name"
The only song I would be tempted to hit the skip button on would be "It Goes On & On"
The Avett's like to have a NYE concert each year. This year it's in Asheville, but it's been in Greensboro a few times and I know many people who've attended. Wishing I'd made the time one year.

I was listening to the first one this morning. I went in a bit unsure because it was described as progressive metal, and my list is light on both progressive and metal.
It was a good recommendation and liked it more than thought I might going in. Combination works better to me than each standing alone, as gives it a bit more of a funky feel than something like a Pink Floyd, and also feels a bit like less someone is shouting at me like I feel with most metal acts.
Heading down to Richmond for the NASCAR races tonight and tomorrow, so not sure when next listen will be, but will continue my way through.

I included this because you had some grunge on your list and this album is widely considered to be somewhat of a proto-grunge album. It came out in 1989 fyi.

Acabou Chorare - Novos Baianos
I figured I'd start with this since I'm working and will probably not be able to listen as closely as I would like to if lyrics are part of my assessment. I started by grabbing the wrong album on Amazon Music, a live version that is an hour and a half long, and got about 3 songs in when I went to make some notes. It was at that point that I was looking for the tracklist and realized I had the wrong album
I think it was the third or fourth song on that album that was a rock track. Do you have that live album from I want to say 2017-ish?My assumption going in was that I would enjoy the music because I do typically appreciate Latin American rhythms and, yes, guitar work, although I can't say I'm a particular fan if only because I do tend to place a high value on lyrics. The language barrier means that other than the fleeting exposure I have had through friends or neighborhood celebrations, I largely reap the benefits of this genre only through the English acts it has influenced (see for example the Brazilian influence in Rhythm of the Saints or flamenco influence on the aforementioned Lights of Madrid). On the whole this is a lively album, and there was lots of toe tapping and seat dancing going on as I played with my spreadsheets.
Speaking of guitarwork, it's intriguing to me how well integrated it (and the rhythm in general) is in this music. Maybe it's because the lyrics themselves are diminished in importance to my ears, but it sounds like the guitar is a co-lead on many of these songs, vs. a rhythm-solo-rhythm pattern that is inherent in so much of the American music I have grown up with, and the rhythm section is doing more interesting things than just holding a beat. The former comes out particularly strongly on "Preta Pretinha" and latter on tracks like the album closer, "Preta Pretinha (versao alternativa)" (a reprise?).
It is fascinating to me that when it works fusion can really hit the right note. Wikkipedia tells me that this album is a combination of samba, rock, and tropical and I definitely got that. I do recognize that vocalization also plays an important role. The song "A Menina Canca" for example actually includes what I might describe as Brazilian scat with a guitar outro that sits very nicely in a latin-rock-jazz pocket.
My only regret is that not understanding the lyrics, I feel like I missed out on some of the enjoyment of the album, especially on slower or more soulful/romantic songs like the title track. Overall, though, that doesn't take away from the fact that this was a very pleasant and enjoyable listen with interesting guitar and drum work and a generally lively tone, and I can see why this album is touted as one of the top Brazilian albums of all time.

Everything is Everything - Donny Hathaway
I'm glad that you selected this album if for no other reason than that it means I don't have to worry about the lyrical content of my Take 6 pick album being a distraction for you.
I could tell right off that bat that this album is very much a product of its time.
Lyrically, this time is interesting because America was in a post-civil rights era where it was becoming clear that the fight for racial equality was still going to be a long battle despite the legislative victories of the 60s. And while that sober realization was making its way through popular culture, there was still an inherent optimism tied into the pre-secularization of black America in particular.
Musically, from the opening horn riffs accentuating the soul groove to the soulful singing and background vocals, the sensibilities are very much early seventies soul. It puts me right into that frame of mind and reminds me of my early childhood. Not that I was exposed to this type of music much in my daily life, other than from PBS that is.
That being said, while the album opens with that familiar early 70s soul style, the album quickly moves to applying that soul spin on a variety of styles including a couple of jazz pieces in "Misty" and "Thank You Master (For My Soul)" (which sounds to me like a soul lyric laying on top of a jazz composition), "Sugar Lee" which is more classic gospel, and a blues number in "Tryin' Times". I definitely applaud the variety of influences and styles incorporated into the music on this album, and I could see this as influential in a number of ways and to a number of artists that came after.
The album finishes strong with the poingnant "To Be Young, Gifted and Black" and "Dream", which really sounded like it could fit in any era.
In the end, this was an interesting listen but just a little bit too trapped in time for my tastes. I know "The Ghetto" was the biggest hit from this album, and if that title doesn't say it all then these opening lyrics probably do:

Listened to the first two albums from @MAC_32 this morning. Both had big hits that I knew well, but I had never listened to either album in total. Really liked both.

New to me favorites - 300 MPH, Little Cream Soda, A Martyr for My Love for You, Catch Hell Blues
Overall album thoughts - this had way more diverse sounding songs than I was expecting. Really solid album that started with a bang and finished up strong. My only minor quip is that after starting the album off with the massive title track, the next couple of songs were a bit of a let down (I had to relisten to 300 MPH to appreciate its complexity) - I think if this title track was moved to the cleanup spot rather than lead off things would have built up more nicely.
The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance

Overall album thoughts - this was a very well put together concept album. Great story telling, very well connected, and it offered a really solid rock opera / almost theatrical feel to it like some other albums I really like. Lots of really good songs throughout.
The last three albums should be mostly new to me aside from anything shared in prior music threads, so looking forward to those.

New to me favorites - 300 MPH, Little Cream Soda, A Martyr for My Love for You, Catch Hell Blues
Overall album thoughts - this had way more diverse sounding songs than I was expecting. Really solid album that started with a bang and finished up strong. My only minor quip is that after starting the album off with the massive title track, the next couple of songs were a bit of a let down (I had to relisten to 300 MPH to appreciate its complexity) - I think if this title track was moved to the cleanup spot rather than lead off things would have built up more nicely.

Glad you liked it. There's definitely a major Stooges influence there. This was their second record; their first (Between the Eyes) and third (Far Gone) have a similar sound, though Far Gone was mixed poorly. Their fourth record (Straight Freak Ticket) is their only one on a major label and as you might expect is more polished than the others. Their fifth and last (Confusion Au Go Go), I haven't listened to that much and don't remember a whole lot about it.
I had a fantasy football draft yesterday and a lot of work to do today, so I haven't gotten to your albums yet. Hopefully soon.

Cool. As I said to KP, their first three albums (of which Fantastic Planet is the third) and an outtakes compilation are on Spotify but their subsequent albums are not. The second album (Magnified) is similar to Fantastic Planet. The first album (Comfort) is completely different; it's an Albini-recorded noisefest.

Opeth - Heritage No, not on my list, but it was my #4 and I had planned to suggest it to anybody who had some 70s and/or prog lean on their list. It also has a song that is a tribute to Dio, so it's fitting I got Mt. Man since Dio was one of his MAD31 artists.
Dinosaur Jr - Farm since he leaned a bit guitar heavy in his list
The Black Keys - Rubber Factory since he had some Stripes on his list
The National - Trouble Will Find Me just because
Aimee Mann - The Forgotten Arm because of Tapestry and a couple others on there. I didn't mention this one anywhere, but it's a concept album of two characters who run off with each other to escape their problems, and it's my upcoming MAD artist.
I'm a little surprised with the rankings he had that @Mt. Man isn't already familiar with Rubber Factory. Seems like a good choice for him.
That or he's actually a bot and his entire list is fake

I think Icky Thump's peak starts with St Andrew and as you said goes through the album's end. With you on Catch Hell Blues, it's the peak, but I'm turning everything on side 2 (if you will) up to 11. Actually, @shuke I think I have one. I just recommended them to Marco as well - The Sea and Cake I have been listening to them a bit this year and I am pretty sure I like all 11 of their albums, but a couple I just listened to 1x each and need to relisten to them. I was just thinking tonight that I shouldn't all my MAD31 shots, because I this would make a perfect artist for Rd5. 2 albums that stood out to me were Nassau and Car Alarm. I will link a song each from those albums.

The reason I listened to them was because I heard a couple of their songs when I was going back through Genrepalooza4 stations. When I just searched for mentions of them to see if I missed it in a thread, I noticed that the mentions of them were from Pip as he took the songs for GP4. Thanks again, for leading me to great music, pip. (even if it is 3 years later...)

Dinosaur Jr. - Farm
My initial impression was that I’d generally be in for softer vocals in the alternative rock neighborhood, with some strong guitar work behind it. That held up pretty well for “Pieces”, “I Want You to Know”, “Said the People” and most of “I Don’t Wanna Go There”. But I don’t want to give people who haven’t checked it out the impression that it was all this style. Or that there was any threat of the songs seeming “same-y”.
Indeed, there were songs like “Over it” and “There’s No Here” with attention-grabbing intros, and “Friends”, a more hard-charging rock song. There were ‘dreamy’ aspects in “Your Weather” and “Imagination Blind”, and sometimes the band slowed things down.
Overall, it might have taken me a few songs to fully get into it, but then “Plans” and “Your Weather” hit me pretty strongly. I know I’ve heard some of these songs back in M-AD round 1, but I didn’t remember any very well. Though regardless, I picked up some bits that reminded me of other bands, and always in the positive sense.
I think I’d go “See You”, “There’s No Here” and “Plans” as my early favorites, but I’d mark down at least 8 of the 11 songs as strong likes. I’m not fully hooked, but I’m encouraged to return sometime. Perhaps after my other “work” is done.

I listened to a few of @Mt. Man 's over the last couple days, but will post about just one now.
The Pretenders - Petender I have listened to 3 times now. I am not sure if there is even a note I didn't like on this album. I am not sure what I was expecting, but It wasn't quite the range of styles. I guess I was expecting more punk lean but I head way more new wave. I knew Brass in Pocket and Tattooed Love Boys (from guitar hero, I think? ) Even those were new discoveries as I listened in the headphones. 3 new to me stand outs were: Up the Neck with the spacy guitars and great bass, I dig the keyboard sound on Space Invader, and love Hynde's voice on Private Life. I will definitely put this in the rotation and explore more albums.
I also listened to Duke and Get Your Wings. I wanted to revisit a couple songs before posting.
