Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album by the English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 12 September 1975 through Harvest Records in the UK and Columbia Records in the US, their first for the label. Based on material Pink Floyd composed while performing in Europe, Wish You Were Here was recorded over numerous sessions throughout 1975 at EMI Studios in London.
Love, love, love this album. Incredible flow. No weak points. Accessible yet incredibly complex and deep. The perfect album.

For the playlist, I’ll go with the song I chose as my #1 song in the consensus PF rankings - Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts 1-5). This sets the stage for all the magic to come. I was hoping there would be a second #1 drafter so we could collude to get parts 6-9 on the playlist too.

I certainly wouldn't complain if you slapped 6-9 on as well. I actually like the back half a bit more.

Revolver is the seventh studio album by the English rock band the Beatles. It was released on 5 August 1966, accompanied by the double A-side single "Eleanor Rigby" / "Yellow Submarine". The album was the Beatles' final recording project before their retirement as live performers and marked the group's most overt use of studio technology to date, building on the advances of their late 1965 release Rubber Soul. It has since become regarded as one of the greatest and most innovative albums in the history of popular music, with recognition centred on its range of musical styles, diverse sounds and lyrical content.
This is like a mini-White Album with no clunkers. (I’m fine with Yellow Submarine and Doctor Robert.) It has my #1 Beatles song in Tomorrow Never Knows, which may have been the most innovative use of studio technology up to that point. (Obviously that is my nomination for the playlist.) And it has the Beatles’ three songwriters operating at the top of their games but going in completely different directions from each other. To some, this may make for a jarring experience, but I just like to bask in it all.

With likely 3 albums in the top 10 and 4 in the top 20, Pink Floyd is a little overrated here.
How do you define overrated in this context? People rate them as they like them. The Beatles will have 3 albums in the top 13.
We have a fairly homogenized pool of participants with particular likes. I doubt if you went to any outside source or polled a much more diverse audience, that we'd get 3 Pink Floyd albums in the top 10. You *might* (but probably wouldn't) get 3 Beatles albums in the top 10 either.
1. maybe Pink Floyd is just that damn good
2. The general population are idiots and we 50 people are cool, so we know better. ;)

I will say I am a tad shocked that PF will do that much better than the Stones. I thought they would do about the same here with the Beatles “beating” both of them.

To me, Floyd is an album band, and the Stones are a hits band. I'm not saying that's right or wrong, just how they feel. Growing up, and even through college, I don't really recall people listening to Stones records.

Lord Huron - Strange Trails (2015) - 67pts

Fellow MAD31ers and participants in song drafts will not be surprised by this. I have been a huge fan of this album since it came out. I remember hearing Meet Me in the Woods and being instantly hooked and started listening to this album a ton. My wife and I saw them live with Nathaniel Rateliff and despite liking the showmanship of Rateliff, it solidified that we both were drawn to Lord Huron's music much more. A blend of rock and folk, lots of songs of lost loves and connections, all while evoking a sense of a cosmic plan and manipulation. It is not a concept album, but all their albums beg to be played from start to finish as the songs blend and flow together. It originally was conceived of as a movie or a series of movies (which is very much reflected in the videos they made for the album and their stage presentation) Obviously one of my favorite albums of the 21st century. I have recommend this album and band to so many people, and since I didn't think it was on the countdown it was going to be album #1 on my recommended listening list at the end of the countdown for anybody who hasn't tried it. I was going to go with a deeper track, but unless @shuke has a stronger pull for a song, I will go with the obvious Meet Me in the Woods since it was the one that started my love for this fantastic band.

Nice writeup. This has been my wife's favorite band since she heard "Ends of the Earth" in a movie she was watching with my son about 10-12 years ago. So naturally they've really grown on me. We've seen them 10 times now in 6 different states. This Friday will be our 11th.

Unfortunately this didn't happen. We were in Columbus at the venue when we got a call from the kids that our dog wasn't able to stay on his hind feet. We've been waiting for the end, as he was diagnosed with cancer within the past 6 months and we decided to not put him through the rigors of chemo and surgeries at his age (13). It took us a few hours to get home, luckily the kids were there to lay with him during that time. We took him to the vet, and he had progressive arthritis and muscle loss in his rear legs. With the inevitable progression through cancer looming, we made the hard decision to put him down.

We are all devastated, and this is especially tough on my wife. She doesn't get out as much as she would like due to chronic pain issues, and to have this concert experience interrupted like this has her wondering if she'll be able to listen to LH again based on memories of that night. And that saddens me.

Thanks for listening.

Ugh, sorry to read this Shuke. Never easy to lose a pet, especially under those circumstances. Much love your way, gb.

Even though I co-signed "And Your Bird Can Sing" as my choice from Revolver, because it's my favorite from the record, "Tomorrow Never Knows" is probably a better choice as an example of what was going on at the time that makes this album so incredible. "I'm Only Sleeping" would also be a fine choice to demonstrate the ground-breaking techniques being used by the lads at the time.

With Wish You Were Here and Revolver off the board, I think my contribution to the combined rankings has come to an end*

*probably unless there's a late groundswell of enthusiasm for Prefab Sprout

yeah, I like Pink Floyd, but didn't have any in my top 70 ...I got burnt out on them sophomore year of college. My roommate loved PF and he would insist on PF being on when we went to sleep almost every night. It remains amazing, skillful music to me and I respect the hell out of them for that - but I just have had my fill.

I think I'll have only 5 of the top 10 on my list. Maybe only 4.

Also - going to say something pretty controversial on this board, I suppose.

Certainly one of the best bands of all-time. No shade for that. But the weighting of these albums is a touch skewed by this particular audience.

Although I like the album, I didn't rank Purple Rain.

I mixed a few on the next album's people into this one - it should be correct now.

Sorry but withe 20+ participants per album now my eyes are going a little batty traying to keep on same line.

Funny that everyone forgot about Revolver for the top 10. Same here. I was stuck on 9 forever too and couldn't think of it even though I ranked it. Wonder why that is.

I'd also put in a vote for "And Your Bird Can Sing."

So far the top 10 is in the order I would have guessed once I figured out what they all are. I'm really interested in the next one because if I were writing them out, this is where I would get most stuck and think it is pretty even odds to be one of the two remaining.

I think I'll have only 5 of the top 10 on my list. Maybe only 4.

Purple Rain is the sixth studio album by the American singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Prince. It was released on June 25, 1984, by Warner Bros. Records as the soundtrack album to the 1984 film of the same name. Purple Rain was musically denser than Prince's previous albums, emphasizing full band performances, and multiple layers of guitars, keyboards, electronic synthesizer effects, drum machines, and other instruments.
Although I like the album, I didn't rank Purple Rain.

I do have one of the other remaining albums at #34 though.
I also like it, but did not rank it.

Not to be pedantic, but Purple Rain is technically by "Prince and the Revolution." (it is literally listed that way on the cover, rather largely :P)

Anyway, great album, yes. I hated not being able to find a spot for this, I actually listened to it on the way to work this morning and then the rest at lunch in anticipation of it being featured here in the top 10 at some point.

I had this at 22. I'm sure more transfixion problems. Just saying this for my own benefit, no changes need be made.
