My issue with Musks comments is it shows me that he lacks integrity.
You thought he had integrity before?
I still think he has more integrity than people who own his cars and now cover the logo with blue tape.
To answer your question - I dont know - Ive never met the man and neither have you.
I know a lot of people who bought Teslas before Musk amped up his (bad) behavior. Many of them are embarrassed to have purchased his products.
I mean, most of us focus on the quality and price of what we purchase, with little regard to the ethics of production, or personalities of company CEOs. I'm certainly guilty of that. Do you scrutinize what you buy to that extent?
As an aside, we just bought an EV, a Hyundai. Tesla definitely offered more bang for the buck, and clearly has been instrumental in EVs gaining traction. Still, I elected not to consider buying one. Is that as bad as covering a logo with tape? What should those owners do instead?
It’s a car they already bought. Embarrassed that they purchased a vehicle? It’s corny. Elon has always been a “lunatic” and the only reason people hate him is they are told to do so.
I just can’t stand all the propaganda and subterfuge (from all sides).
ETA - I shouldn't even let this stuff bother me. I’m more upset that I let it.
Gotta get back to the island mentality. I gotta get back there man. It’s calling me. I hate it here.
I think you’re underestimating people’s ability to think independently.
Heck, I had 2 separate reservations for Model 3s at their launch: one for my friend, one for me. Waited in line to place the deposits.
At the time, I knew nothing about Musk, other than the vehicles produced by Tesla.
Fast forward 9 years, a lot has changed. I don’t really keep up with the news, nor social media, but it’s nearly impossible to avoid hearing about Musk’s shenanigans. Is some of it propaganda? Sure, but many of his actions are irrefutably despicable, imo.
As a result, I didn’t even consider buying a Tesla. I’ve never owned one, but definitely can imagine feeling something other than “corny”, had I gone through with the purchase years ago.
FWIW, my friend ended up buying the model 3 I reserved, and another a few years later. He’s considering trading it for a Hyundai.
Also, the islands do a pretty good job insulating one from the political nonsense. There’s still a divide, but it isn’t nearly as pervasive as the picture you guys paint about life in the continental US.
