Cooley.. where has he been? (1 Viewer)

I remember all the hype about Cooley last year and I drafted him as my #1 TE. A few weeks into the season he hadn't done jack so I cut him and grabbed someone else. Sure enough week 4 he goes off for 14 fpts. He finished the year as the #4 TE.

I drank the cool aid again this year thinking he could be top 5 in my ppr.

He only has 3 catches for 20 yards and 0 TDs. He's been targeted 13 times in 2 games which is pretty good so why is his production down so much this year?

Currious to hear some thoughts on this guy.

Will Portis' return help?

Is there a reason he's only caught 3 out of 13?

Cooley was hyped because he's a helluva player.

The main problem is that he's running deeper routs and, just like the wr's, has to deal with a qb who can't seem to get the ball down field.

Don't confuse targets with catchable balls. I own Cooley and have watched both games and was Stunned to see his targets for each listed as 6 and 7 respectively. It seems to me that everytime Brunell throws the ball away Cooley is the nearest player and is thus credited with a target.

I'm hopeful that the return of Portis and this week's match-up will help, but have never been a Brunell fan and honestly believe that without a QB change that Cooley is borderline starter material.

Cooley is the real deal, but yes, the throws have been THAT bad. But i believe this team can't throw without a great running attack to keep the D honest. No one was scared of Betts and Duckett (for good reason) and that made it almost impossible for Brunell to move the ball. (and yes, he's struggling big time right now, and looks like he did in 2004 unfortunately for us Skisn fans.) I would absolutely hold on to Cooley though. I think the Skins will start to resemble a decent NFL offense this weekend with Portis back.

The fact that they're playing the Texans should help too. I'm banking on Cooley having a solid game this week. I'm starting him over Wiggins.

I've been tracking Cooley's targets through 2 games and probably 4 of those targets were passes thrown out of bounds by Brunell, and NFL.Com's play-by-play recorded him the target. Two other times he was overthrown ...another was an underthrown INT...about two hit the dirt in front of his feet and another he dropped. Brunell isn't getting him the ball...and he seems to be out of place on the field at times. Both are still learning a new system...and Cooley is learning how to be a traditional TE, instead of the H-Back he has been the past 2 seasons.

Cooley and Brunell used to have a great chemistry...but I don't htink Mark is getting the opportunity to get him the ball due to poor protection from the o-line.

That being said; I think their game against Houston will be their coming-out party...
