Corey Dillon to call it quits??? (1 Viewer)

Wherever Dillon ends up he will be taking a serious hit for the starting RB on that team with TD's. Dillon might not get alot of yards but he is still a monster down by the goal line.

Adam Caplan just reported on The Sirius NFL Channel that the Jets and Eagles (if they do not resign Buckhalter) will have interest in Dillon when he is released.
I think the Eagles are a great fit for him. He'd give them a short yardage grinder that they have been lacking. That being said if reports of him wanting more carries are true than I just don't see how he'd be happy playing on a pass first team with a big time RB like Westbrook. That is not a situation where he'd get more carries than in New England. He'd probably have an even more defined role in Philly than in Foxboro.
Caplan said Dillon/His agent are looking to be on a team that will give him 10-15 carries a game. I think the Eagles could give him 10+ , but I wouldn't want to see more then that.
If that's the case than my guess is the Pats told him they were either going to release him or add in another youngster/free agent. While it's obvious Maroney is going to be a bigger piece of the puzzle in 07 the Pats are team that plays their whole roster. Getting Dillon in the ballpark of 10 carries a game would not be too difficult if they wanted to. Therefore I would not be surprised to see the Pats add in another rookie/veteran they may have their eye on and Dillon simply knows it's time to move on.There's always the money aspect. With Dillon's role decreasing his contract doesn't make sense. The Pats do not pay players for past service so this could simply be a situation where it's time to cut ties and move on for the good of both parties.

I would assume Dillon would love a situation where he only gets 10+ short yardage carries a game. I believe he could extend his carrier a few more years if he excepts that sort of role.

I think you nailed it here. The Pats made it clear that his contract wasn't in line with his expected role. Dillon is saving face and fishing for a better $$ situation elsewhere. I could still se him coming back to NE at a reduced rate if no other team bites.

Every single season everyone talks about how the Eagles are going to go get a bigger bruising type back and every single season they don't do it. Dillon won't end up with the Eagles. They absolutely rely on their RBs to be a huge part of the passing game. I would be very surprised if Dillon ended up in Philly.

This season they might have to - since Buckhalter is UFA. Then again they might draft Brian Leonard

they started running the ball more at the end of this season and their offensive line was pretty a pretty impressive run blocking unit. getting McNabb back may mean they go back to doing what they've always done, but I wouldn't be surprised if their offense became more balanced in 2007.
