Cowher to Penn State Next year? (1 Viewer)

Smells like chicken
The rumor is Cowher has his house up for sale in North Carolina,

visited with Penn State Athletic director on a two day campus stay, and

maybe interested in coach the team if JoePa (81) decides to call it quits

after this season. here is the Link and Story:http://www.collegefootballtalk.com/rumormill.htm

COULD COWHER COACH PENN STATE?

Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher is expected to get back in

the football coaching game in 2009. Most likely, that would involve

working for whatever NFL owner is willing to give him the best combination

of multimillion-dollar salary and control over personnel decisions.

But Cowher could also decide to coach in college. And we've heard

from some Penn State fans who are extremely excited about the possibility

that he could return to Pennsylvania.

The Penn State football web site Laschout.com reported Monday that

Cowher was on the campus at Penn State on February 24 and 25, and that he

stayed overnight at the home of Athletic Director Tim Curley. And then the

site reported today that this real estate listing is for Cowher's home inNorth Carolina.

Might Cowher be putting that home on the market because he plans to be coaching elsewhere 10 months from now?

At this point, it's too early to say. Joe Paterno is 81 years old,

and some observers think he's heading into his final season. Then again,

"some observers" have thought that for the last decade. But taking over

for Paterno would likely be seen as an attractive opportunity for

Cowher, and Cowher would definitely be seen as an attractive candidate for

Penn State

That would make a ton of sense, I could certainly see that happening.

It's no secret around these parts that Greg Schiano is holding out for Penn State; I wonder if he could beat out Cowher if Bill was legitimately interested in the job?

I love Cowher, but it really doesn't make sense. 1) College is a very different world from the pros. He has no college experience.2) I would be shocked if the next guy doesn't have PSU ties.3) Joe isn't going anywhere until he dies.

Cowher is not going to Penn State.
agreed seems far fetched. I think he lands in Carolina if Fox struggles again this season.
And I think that is precisely what he's waiting to see: What happens with the Panthers?
I live pretty close to his neighborhood and have not heard that the house is for sale, but i don't get the paper 7 days a week, so I could have easily missed it. I think he is in an awkward situation:His daughter is a senior at a private HS here and she will go off to college to play D1 BB somewhere (guessing Princeton as that is where the other daughter played). Princeton is obviously much closer to Penn state, so that may be some of the motivation if the Penn State rumors are true. On the flip side, i remember an article that he moved back to NC because his wife and he agreed that after the Steelers they would move closer to her twin sister and Raleigh (where she played BB with her sister)...sorry, no link. Add this situation with the fact that NC State, Duke and UNC (all within driving distance to his current home) have 1 year or two year coaches and it does not look like anything local will open up to him. He could make a commute to Wake Forest, but the coach there is there to stay. What does this all mean? I have no clue, but there is some background information for you all.

He could have had the State job easy if he wanted it.
I'm not so sure. They would have to eat a lot of O'Brien's contract and honestly he has coached in the ACC/Big East for a while now and he is pretty good. If they got a "lame duck" replacement for Amato, I would agree with you whole-heartedly.

He said he could have had it, which I think he is talking about before O'Brien was hired.
