When I make this, I use a cup and a half of Dr Pepper instead of Coke. Made this today. Felt the same way at first, but kept basting it every few hours to keep it moist. Turned out delicious. epicurious is better IMO.allrecipes rocks.
I made this chili recipe. It's not for the crockpot, but it's worth the effort to make. Plus, if you only have a couple people who eat it, then you can freeze some or have some for the next couple of days.
And it's not fire hot. It warms your mouth and has excellent flavor. Especially the next day or so.
(Crock pot cooking is more my style though)

What is the point of slow cooking if you're going to open it up every few hours to baste? Might as well make it in your oven.Made this today. I've done this recipe several times and actually found that using Pork Butt instead of Pork Shoulder seems to work better for me. The meat ends up more tender and moist for some reason. Try doing the Lazy Man recipe with Pork Butt instead of Shoulder. You may like that better as an alternative through the winter months.I did the lazy man pork this weekend as well. Doesnt hold a candle to a butt cooked in the smoker, but its still a nice (and VERY easy) substitute to get through the winter months. I also added some fajita and taco seasoning to the leftover meat and fried it in a pan (just to crisp it a little) and then put it in wraps with some cheese, fried peppers/onions, sour cream and homeade salsa.![]()
I've used them both. They are both easy to use websites.Food Network's website sucks though. And who the hell carries all those ingredients.epicurious is better IMO.allrecipes rocks.

From now on when "Da Good Da Bad an Da Ugly" talks, Ill listen. A few years ago he gave me some top notch advice on brining/smoking some fish I had caught, then I tried his lazy man pork (which was delicious), but this one takes the cake. This is 100% idiot proof, costs less than $10, and the tastiness-to-effort ratio is off the charts. . Literally took less than a minute in the morning to prepare. The Giardinera makes it look like you spent a lot of time on it too. Just made the meatballs, nearly one year after the post. Absolutely delicious. Thanks for the recipe. Much appreciated.RAIDERNATION said:I'll paste it here in case anyone else is interested. There is no "magic potion," but anyone who has my meatballs always say they are the best they've ever had. The hot Italian sausage is the key. Squeeze it right in with the ground chuck.PM me the meatball recipe please.I also do that on Sundays in the fall, only with my famous spicy meatballs. That's the only thing I've made in the crock pot which comes out great. It's the only way I cook chili. Nothing like the simmering aroma throughout the house on a football weekend.Serve on a fresh, soft torpedo roll and use the parmesan cheese liberally.

==============
Have a big pan/crock pot of sauce simmering before you start making meatballs.
1 lb. Ground Chuck (preferably), or lean ground beef
2 large HOT Italian sausages… squeeze contents of casing in with the beef
1 tsp. Garlic
1 egg
1 teaspoon dried oregano
½ cup parmesan cheese
¼ cup bread crumbs
¼ tsp. Salt
¼ tsp. Pepper
Preheat oven to 325º
Place meatballs on cookie sheet for 6 minutes.
Turn them over for another 6 minutes on the other side.
Place the meatballs in the sauce, and simmer for ***AT LEAST*** 3 hours.
If you can simmer them in a crock pot for six hours, that would be ideal.
Also use a stick of Margarita pepperoni, cut it into slices and simmer in sauce.
This recipe makes 12 decent-sized meatballs.
Just put the ingredients in the crock pot about an hour ago. Couldn't find the pinto beans, and I substituted ground turkey for ground beef. Looks really good.Chili receipt we use alot. Can be eaten straight out of the crock pot or mix it with white rice. From my lovely wife:2lbs ground beef (browned and drained)1 small onion (chopped) (or dried chopped onion)16 oz kidney beans (mostly drained)16 oz black beans (mostly drained)16 oz pinto beans (mostly drained)14.5 oz diced tomatoes, undrained (italian style works best since it has green peppers & spices already in it)6 oz tomato paste2 envelopes chili seasoning (your choice)1 cup of waterAdd all beans, diced tomatoes and tomato paste to the crock pot and mix well. Mix the chili seasoning packets with the 1 cup of water and add to the crock pot and mix everything well. Add the cooked and drained ground beef to the crock pot and mix well. Cook on low for 6-8 hours, stirring occassionally if desired.(Cook on high for 1 1/2 - 2 hours if in a hurry.)
With winter on the way, I am going to have climb above the fridge and dig it out.Just bought a crock pot and I can't wait to try some of these out!
